Do you prefer unlocking stuff or freedom to have everything?

Its simple really. Do you like freedom to do and own what you want and that will keep you playing. Or does working hard for money make you play. Which game model do you like and why.

Personally I loved the billionaire days. D

Cruising with friends. Modding any car. And goofing off. I dont like grinding in a game. Its no longer a game.

Sure people say you can earn enough through play but for people who dont have time for extended play games that force you to grind for things arent fun to the casual gamer.

Let me clarify unlocking and then buying rather than having everything avaliable for little or no cost.

I hate the ultra focus on cash and for someone who plays gta to goof around in free roam ect and who doesn't have much time to grind.

Unlocking stuff. The game's already stale and boring for many people, just imagine how staler it would be if it weren't for the unlocks.
Anyways I think the game takes it a bit to the extreme though, earning money is a chore and it's easy to burn off all your money with how overpricey everything is.

I played iv for years and I still go back to it. The only thing better about v is owning cars and guns. Iv was superior and I never got bored of glacking others

I liked the billionaire days because it was both. You still had to work to unlock and rank up, but modding cars and just spending cash was done without thought. I would prefer something like that... it sucks to be to broke to buy anything in a game. I get far too much of that in my life.

Pretty much this ^^^

I got everything I have by unlocking it legitimately. For me enjoying the game comes partly from the reward you get from unlocking things. I just recently leveled up past 120 & wish there was more stuff to unlock and make leveling up further worthwhile. Having said that, I did have to do my fair share of grinding particularly in the later levels

I like my games to be games, not full time jobs.

This is why I finally quit WoW, I persisted through Vanilla and Naxx version 1 so I am no stranger to the hard grind, however, unless it's a "near perfect" game, I won't waste my time an play something else, or play less.

*Edit - To answer the original question, some sort of unlock system is good, but shouldn't ruin the high level / low level balance. We all love the sense of achievement which is why we keep coming back, without htis, the game get's boring unless, again, it's amazing.

I got bored with IV after the story because there was very little to do other than the usual GTA stuff.

I couldn't connect to most games and when I did the modders killed everyone in the lobby over an over again.

Unlocking things other than skins and clothes is more rewarding.

If you were around in iv on xbox it didnt get bad till 2012. There used to only be scripts for tbogt but in 2012 the simple native trainer was converted to xbox tjats when it was ruined. Untill then it was a good game

Unlocking everything is more fun for me because most of the time i don't play with my friends.(besides the car mods that require you to win races which is bull because everyone likes to put custom vehicles on)

I have absolutely zero issues with unlocking things. Personally, I think it is better, as it extends playability. Then again, I'm old enough to have played many games that required putting time in in order to "beat" or "complete" them. Some players these days have to have instant gratification... Have everything NOW!!!

One of my favorite games when I was a kid was "The Legend Of Zelda" for the original NES. You started with 3 hearts of health, a wooden sword (if you went into the cave at the start of the game) and that was pretty much it. Everything had to either be earned or purchased with coins (which were earned by killing enemies). Even saving was a potential risky proposition back then... If the backup battery in your cart didn't do it's job, you were starting all over the next time you put the game in.

Nowadays, my guess is, many people playing games wouldn't like Zelda... Because they don't start out with all of the weapons, all parts of the triforce in hand and just dropped on Gannon's doorstep when they fire the game up.

I liked the billionaire days as well...but I would not have liked an everthing available at the beggining model for the game. I would have preferred it if things were hard to come by in the beginning, very limited weapons, missions and cash gain...even more so than it is now. Then have it progress to about the availability of cash income and weapons and missions we have now at about level 60. Then continue the progression to where top cars, weapons and missions are unlocked later towards the cap. These missions would require the top weapons like RPG and Minigun to even succeed in them but would be far more lucrative than they are now. You could not invite lower levels into them...must be like 100+ to participate...but when you succeed in them the money rolls in hard. Spending money becomes no longer an issue.

In essense you begin as a sh*t stain who has access to nothing, work up to a proffessional who has mostly the access we currently have...but that is mid game...your good but your still conscious of money and need to put in the work...then you keep going on up to kingpin where you are the big boy and money just rolls in at every turn...you are boss and can do what you want financially.

Black Rabbit

Unlock system w/ Tiered Legendary Status a la Red Dead Redemption.

I don't f*ck around wasting too much of my time and money in free roam so there is no need for me to have everything immediately available. I have no need to continually paint cars or upgrade random cars off the street. I've played the game for days and days...I know what cars I like and what I want them to look like. Even if I do want to change the paint on them, I've got plenty of money to do so multiple times over without even caring about the cost.

I loved starting out as a scrub who just flew into town, not able to purchase good weapons or car upgrades. I loved having a goal. I loved racing to unlock my upgrades, knowing that I'd be racing against people who already have some of said upgrades. Makes it feel more realistic...like you're the new kid in town.

Now I've made my mark in the city and through my struggle up the ladder I unlocked everything and am sitting on millions of dollars that I don't have anything to purchase with....an NPC said I was looked like trash and was probably on wellfare, so I beat his face with a bat.

Unlocking is fine, but you can burn money faster than you can earn it in GTA v. I noticed they nerfed coveted playlists now, rooftop will be next, combined with thee temptations of high life we will be all broke and buying cash cards just for pistol ammo.

This^^. I wouldn't even mind earning money but the cost/payouts in GTA V are just so unbalanced hence why people only grind the one highest paying/lowest time mission repeatedly.

Losing cash dying should be removed. I dont pick fights when I dont want to and if im killed by an asshole I shouldn't lose money possibly you should only lose money dor suicide

I like how unlocking stuff gives a sense of progression, that you're climbing up the food chain and it made getting one of the upper-tier weapons in a deathmatch or survival seem more of an event.

It is to an extent if your the type of person like you and I who are thrifty and dont blow our sh*t in free roam. But for many, thier gameplay costs more than what they take in. If all you do is freeroam nothing will change that but if your 120+ I don't think it should matter how you play there should be ample cash in your account. Money, much like the end of single player, should not be an issue for end game play.

I have around 6 mil...but with my habits and being at lvl 360+ I should be a legit billionaire in my opinion.

I know it isnt end game really but for some it is.

Money is an issue in this game because casuals like to have fun not grind.

Money is only an issue if the player makes it an issue.

You don't HAVE to own EVERYTHING in GTA. You don't have to buy a million dollar car in order to play, nor do you need to spend even more upgrading said car. If you chose, you could keep the one car that you are pretty much given at the start of the game and use that car throughout the entire game.

If you want the nicer things in the game, yes, you have to earn them. But, you don't HAVE to buy anything if you choose not to.

If I'm not having fun when playing a game, I don't bitch about how the game works, I simply take the game out of the console.

I like to unlock things. Sense of accomplishment, "I earned that."

Having everything right from the jump can get old very quickly. Where's the challenge?

There is no grinding required now. People who do so do it by choice.

Plenty of people. I don't know about you, but I paid $110 hoping for a multiplayer experience that amounted to more than "Airport Deathmatch" or "Jumps Jumps Jumps! Airport edition!" before ending up as "Modders Paradise, Everyone else's hell".

Nobody "has" to grind... Everyone chooses to play whatever missions/races/etc that they want. If a person's way of playing causes them to be broke all the time, then they should re-evaluate why their costs are more than their income.

Your sig says that you have over $4.25 million... Please tell me what exactly it is that you HAVE to grind for...?
