Heavy sniper issues?

Is it just me or is anyone else having trouble with their heavy sniper? Seems like the last week or two has been completely hit or miss (no pun intended) even with direct shots. Seems the hit detection is really off for some reason.

I noticed it but I just blamed it on lag, hit someone right in the throat and they just got up and tried to run away. Someone actually was talking about this before but I guess this is really an issue now. Do you think they nerfed it?

No idea tbh. But it is bad. A lot of the times my hits dont even register from a close range.

Has been working fine for me, sniped a few players outside draw range just fine and haven't had any annoying 'misses'. I reckon it's lag.

 

Heavy Sniper doesn't one-shot kill if you hit a limb - maybe the neck counts?

Seems to be ok for me, had a pretty good couple of shots lately.

 

And sniping the tail rotors off choppers is still one of my favorite hobbies

Heavy Sniper doesn't one-shot kill if you hit a limb - maybe the neck counts?

 

I thought it was lag to, but my connection is very strong on my end and has happened multiple times in multiple lobbies even invite only. Seems like a real coincidence if lag is the only cause. Also seems to have the trouble from close distance rather than from further out. IDK just thought maybe i would check with others.

OP i have ran into the same problems with the Heavy Sniper as well...Direct hits, which used to be one shot kills are not for me right now...Idk if its lag or what

I think it's lag, or the same issue causing stickies to disappear. Doesn't happen often.

Its mainly lag. I just hate that you cant see other players at a certain distance.

It is what it is - play within it (ie shoot second, after their shot gives away their position, from somewhere they're not sure where you are) and it's very rewarding.

 

And tail rotors are visible from a surprising distance :D

i think its just bad lag...for instance i killed someone a little while ago in free roam and said i claimed a $5,000 bounty, but the player was never red...

A couple of times I've killed someone, got 9k bounty and they've respawned still red. Once I got a second 9k, the second I didn't. Odd glitch

I shot someone yesterday they fell back ran off and died so it might be lag. maybe on just my part. (Head shot mind you)

Maybe lag maybe your skill dude...

Im pretty sure it is not skill related. im talking clear head shots through the scope. Even tried it with friends in an invite only session had th eproblem maybe 30% of the time

Maybe they went for more realism. A 50cal round doesn't reach top velocity at close range. In fact, most ammunition does this. Targets are supposed to be more than 500yd to really think about a 50cal. Even a 30-06 would be fine for a 500yd kill shot if your spotter helps you compensate for wind and bullet drop.

 

But, this is GTA.

Question: is it possible to let a car explode with a 40 % armor just by shooting like only 4 at the max 5 bullets from a heavy sniper? i was driving a vapid bullet with 40% armor and i just came from inside weazel plazza going to lsc a bit further.

Yep, especially if they target the fuel tank.

The lag may not be at your end, but at the end of the player you are trying to snipe. Even if you snipe a NPC, if somebody in the lobby has really crappy internet it will make the game go all wonky for everybody. Which is why you'll see random car spawns, or odd (well odder than normal) traffic behavior.

 

I use the heavy sniper all the time, and have not personally noticed a difference.

Strange. Yesterday I shot someone with it and not only killed them instantly, but also the player standing behind them. Might be a distance thing, though - we were at opposite ends of the airport roof.

 

@Delminator: If you want to test it out, try hitting the space between the back left wheel and the body of the car, when facing the car side on. Once you know where to hit, you can try and hit it from different angles. The fuel tank is usually there, though it may be different for the Bullet. Make sure to stand well back, though.

I have been a successful sniper since day one and there definitely is a problem with the heavy sniper aside from the major problem you can't shoot tank drivers.

My kill #'s have gone way down since the last couple of updates.

I've also noticed its abit hit and miss one day I can and have shot a player to find the bullet also put down the player behind him, Yet other times you can fire a shot and expect a killing blow only for them to run away missing abit of health. Shame really its my favourite weapon.

The weapon is modelled of a .50BMG calibre weapon system (namely Barrett M107/ M82) despite having the incorrect six round magazine. I can tell you from experience using the thing, it wouldn't matter where you'd hit someone with this thing, a hole so big would be made on their body that they'd die from bleedouts alone, if not anything else.

 

On topic, I did notice that I had a confirmed kill of a P996 Lazer pilot (player) who was flying away from me, and at the time of pulling the trigger the crosshair was actually forward of the aircraft, a leading shot. I suppose this is more realistic due to range, wind and other atmospheric influences, but this doesn't actually work for running players, so I guess it's just laggy.

 

Also, using these scoped weapons with your view zoomed all the way in causes some serious lag and FPS drops. Definitely something that needs sorting.

as soon the wife have gone to sleep im trying the fuel tank idea..

but i want to add to the story that i was driving and saw the bullets ricochet on my hood so i'm pretty sure i was getting hit on the front.. but i'm open minded so maybe he did hit me in the flank :-)

But, this is GTA.

This is the dumbest f*cking thing I've ever read. You're saying a bullet gains speed after leaving the chamber? Regardless of gun, the only accelerating a bullet does from a gun once it leaves the barrel is moving towards the center of the Earth.

It could be because it's been nerfed. i remember you could kill someone just by shooting their leg with the heavy sniper. now you can't with 1 shot.

Play Coveted alone...

 

Now play Coveted with 3 other players.

 

You'll see a huge difference in the way everything works. Laggy Kids Lagging Kids are why I rage. I have been in Invite Only lobbies for days now just for the large NPC crowds and awesome cars that spawn.

i think its lag as well, noticing it with all guns. Where it affects me the most is switching guns in combat, no longer can i quickly switch them, it takes much longer sometimes cause the weapon wheel takes a while to come up and if you switch your gun at normal speed it doesnt switch, you have to do it slower. this has resulted in my gun not switching and me dying several times. It also is taking longer to achieve a lock, and sometimes it wont lock at all, but snaps to a random spot next to them instead. The delay between when you try to or have lock and release is increased so if you try to lock again too soon it will fail. heavy sniper sometimes takes 3 and and a headshot wont kill with one either. Ive also noticed the delay between pulling the trigger of the sniper and the actual shot seems to have increased as well throwing off my ability to hit moving targets as good as i used to be able to when i had factored in the delay cause now its different sometimes. ive emptied clips into heads with other weapons and usually with a couple bullets they die but its taking lots more shots to kill people cause of lag. unarmed deathmatches seems way worse, with the hitboxes seeming 10 feet away from the guy on the screen at times with 16 players, i thought they were cheating but its less severe in games with only 4. also going to the store to buy snacks, the menu sometimes takes 5 seconds to show up. i started noticing this memorial day weekend, never a problem before and it comes and goes since then, seeming worse on weekends, probably due to more people playing.

 

Its not my connection either, i have a 32meg fiber connection with zero issues in other games.
