skillzNthrills
Hey guys. So im looking to purchase a capture card to start recording GTAO gameplay and ultimately create an officer training series for my police RP clan. I would also like to build up a youtube channel with our patrols, recruitment videos, bloopers, etc. I am wondering if anybody knows of a good model of cap card to buy? I definitely dont want to spend over $100. 75 sounds better yet. I just need to make sure it will work for everything I need it to do, and record in HD. I've also heard some record video but not audio very well. If anybody can recommend a good one to me that would be awesome. Need external, its for a laptop. THIS IS THE ONE I AM CONSIDERING SO FAR: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr.html Lastly if anybody out there already has recording experience, and thinks they would enjoy helping me with the videos for my police clan let me know. Zepren
I have a Roxio Game Capture Card Pros: Really easy to set up and use Capture quality is good Comes with some software for editing and converting My one cost me about £45, (about $77 apparently) Cons: Captures in a weird file type Need storage space on PC The software's a bit pish Here's a video I made using it. Still need to get the export in a high quality but i think that's more my editing software: As for help capturing, try arresting the AoD and maybe I will Scary Éire
PoisoNinja140_48
Gonna sound lame, but how does this work? You plug/download something into the console and it records your gameplay?
yoloswag420xd
I have a Happauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition Plus. Pros: Dont need a fast computer Quality is good Has an optical input Seperate component input for PS3 Cons: Records in a wierd file type(like above) Software's a bit glitchy I love it a lot though, look how many videos i've made so far Scary Éire and xoC18H21NO3xo
Zepren
Gonna sound lame, but how does this work? You plug/download something into the console and it records your gameplay? Think of it as a signal interception. Instead of the HDMI going to from you xbox to your TV, you plug it into this box instead and then another cable from box to TV. The signal still travels through to the TV but the box can take the same signal and convert it into video. Hope that answers your question. rixsta
I would highly recommend the Elgato, It is currently the BEST capture card going around. it is EXTREMELY easy to use, it has a VERY easy program for editing, allows you to play and record in HD I don't have a quality of my own, but most popular youtubers all run elgatos(Jericho, Whiteboy, Speedy to name a few)They're cheap too Gonna sound lame, but how does this work? You plug/download something into the console and it records your gameplay? Its rather simple,You run the composite cable (ps3)/ hdmi cable (360) to your recording program of choice. From the program, you connect the hdmi cable (ps3 & 360) to your respective console, while you also connect another cable (generally USB) to your PC - This then activates the software, and allows your PC screen/program to also show everything that you're seeing on the TV. Subsequently it gives you the option to record, whatever you do.

ReconzVenture
Elgato Game Capture HD. Only way to go. I've recently bought one and it's great. I would link to my YouTube channel but 1) that's kind of a lame advertisement for myself and 2) I haven't actually used it properly get.

JC Hammer
Start with your editing software and make sure it's compatible with the file type the card will generate. and do some homework on digital file sizes, storage space and render times so your not disapointed

LPGTAO
I have the elgato as well. I did my research and it emerged as the winner for me. Check my channel to see examples of quality if you want.

ScratchWasAlreadyThere
I have the elgato as well. I did my research and it emerged as the winner for me. Check my channel to see examples of quality if you want. I watched one of your videos (Chopper tail) and noticed that you have black boxes all around your video. Your VQ is rather bad aswell (pixelated, Fake HD). Your recordings really don't do the Elgato justice. I don't know the reason behind this, but I'm guessing you're playing and recording on a low-res screen? It's like you're driving a Ferrari at 4MPH. You really need to check your settings and hardware. The Elgato is according to me the absolute best recorder available. I've owned one for about 3 months now. It's very easy to use, small box and not many cables. The flashback feature is amazing. It saves your entire play session temporarily so that you can go back and record something if you weren't recording at the time. That was the biggest selling point for me. Feel free to contact me via PM or this thread for any other questions regarding the Elgato. I'd gladly share a quality test also. Raw footage directly inserted into Vegas, rendered as a 1080P file and uploaded to youtube. The quality is tight as Tuco would've said.
skillzNthrills
Lots of great feedback guys!! Google searches for the following two things bring up exactly what i'm looking for but I cant seem to find them in my price range: Elgato Capture HD Hauppauge HD PVR Is there a similar one I might be satisfied with in the 75 - 100 price range? I dont really need top of the line. Just needs to be able to record the video and audio from my screen. If it comes with editing software then alright but it doesnt need that either, I can get some editing software without a problem.
