Are heists all about hype?

As I was browsing through the forums tonight and once again found people talking about how they can't wait until heists are released, I had to ask myself … why?

 

Why do so many people talk about heists as if they're going to reinvigorate the game so much that it'll keep GTAO going for the next five years?

 

When you break down what a heist really is, it's not all that special. You have a target and maybe two or three ways that you can complete it. You go retrieve something, whether it's a van, sub, helicopter, weapon, etc. You choose a secondary crew that doesn't really change much about the job at all. You go in and complete the heist, then run away to divide the loot. Basically, it boils down to a series of 2-4 missions stuck together, plus the choice of your crew (if you even have a secondary crew, of course).

 

Seriously, what are people truly expecting out of it? I have a feeling that it will be cool at first, but after running through each one five or ten times, the interest will wane because they're basically just glorified missions. Or am I missing something?

Yeah they've hyped it too much if you ask me, and of course the payout will be low because they want you to buy the cash cards and keep playing. I hope they do release a casino DLC thou so I can tell all the stupid f*ckers that you only need 4 cards to make a flush. Easy Money

Hype is all we have, without hype this game would already be dead, R* knows this, and as bad a tactic as it might be, it is in their interest to delay heists as long as possible, as we know people will never be satisfied, so whatever heists are, people will be wanting more within a matter of weeks.

Exactly, they will take much longer than normal missions and pay at about the same rate as Survival.

GTA V/O were doomed from the start, lol.

I've never seen a game where the devs had to put so much effort into keeping its playerbase, the game just grew staler than rotten garlic in a matter of a few months.

I've given up following the hype for things anymore, I set my own expectations of things, and for heists, I'm expecting them to be little more than glorified store robberies, a good way to make cash but nothing super exciting.

They're not a big enough expansion to the game to be cooked that long on the hype BBQ. I'm pretty sure most people playing that aren't on the forums don't even remember heists anymore. It's been what, 7 months now and there's still no sign of them.

You're right, OP. Especially where you mentioned that heists won't make the entire game better. Heists are a really fun concept, however if you don't like the game already it probably wouldn't change your mind.

I suppose you dont know what Call of duty/ Activision is. I just dont get why people talk sh*t out of no where. There is still no single player DLC yet and online possibilities are limitless.

This sums up my position. I would like to see ANY new co-op missions. The harder and more technical the better. My friends and I still play through all the contact missions in the voting screens, but we know them so well we are running out of creative ways to complete them.

Been thinking about this since the topic appeared but yeah heists are just probably going to

be glorified "store" robberies.

 

Granted the hype is going to disappoint a lot of people and as others have said already some

new mission content would be good or the chance to make our own.

 

The real question I wonder about heists is will they be once only things to do or will they

allow repeat runs of the same heist? I can then see them being the new RR.
