Does Los Santos Feel Like Los Angeles To You Guys?

Honestly, does it make you feel like your in L.A.

I mean watching movies and seeing pictures of L.A. it just doesn't feel much like it. Maybe because the world isn't "alive"

It's just a bunch of structures around you...

I really can't understand, but What do you guys think? Does it grab that L.A. feel?

I've never been to LA...but I don't think so. Strangely though, liberty city felt a lot like New York to me.

To be fair, being in L.A. doesn't even "feel" like being in L.A. when it comes to how movies and television portray it.

But to answer the question, it's got the general look of some of the areas and districts down, but they feel very small in-game and most areas don't fully seem like they capture what it's actually like here. Which makes it odd to me because San Andreas' version was I think smaller, but actually felt more like being in and around town.

I've lived in LA my whole life and only a few parts of LS feel like LA to me. Mainly the beach and pier. But I still think R* did a great job adding main parts of LA

Never been to L.A. but Kotaku or some journalist site has some comparison pictures where they took the L.A. pictures then tried to replicate the same picture in the GTA V equivilant locations. They looked exact and I had trouble telling which was the game and which was real. Lots of pedestrians gave the real one's away though. Also, Machinima was invited to the Need for Speed movie release and when I saw the coverage, I could tell where in GTA 5 each location was. From what I know, it is a very close yet compact portrayal of L.A.

I felt that way in Liberty City, literally, when I flew in to J.F.K. airport (which is nothing like the airport in the game except the entrance and parking garages)

the look of the city was exactly what i thought and I knew the layout, I saw coney island(firefly island) from the distance. NYC def has a lot more skyscrapers . but I drove through brooklyn and it felt like liberty city. ended up heading south to jersey through the toll bridge to ?staten island? could be wrong on that one, don't remember too much

I feel liberty city feels more like NYC than Los Santos feels like LA

I live in Los Angeles so I feel like I'm qualified to give an input.

While Rockstar does an outstanding job in terms of the graphical quality and arrangement of neighborhoods throughout Los Santos, it did not live up to its hype as being anything close to what Los Angeles really is. Firstly, I feel they missed out on an opportunity to expand more in depth in terms of realistically modelling Los Santos into Los Angeles. Next, the developers really gave a tourist's perspective and opinion of what Los Angeles is. You can definitely notice it, by placing more emphasis towards areas such as Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Hollywood Hills, and Hollywood, and not enough towards the individual neighborhoods and communities throughout Los Angeles that really define it as a diverse and world-class city. They also failed in portraying Compton and South Central by making the neighborhoods so small in comparison to the huge amount of space they actually take up. I also noticed a lack of the overall grittiness and amount of crime that really goes on in Los Angeles that R* failed to capitalize on. LA suffers from a lot of gang activity and a shortage of police officers, so I was really saddened when GTA V didn't make enough of a mention towards the gang-activity and life that goes on in the city.

Overall, Los Santos in GTA V is the work of developers who are not native, and were mere tourists of the city, who, unfortunately, missed out on a lot of opportunities to really capture the life of real life-LA. I mean, Rockstar's rendition of Liberty City in GTA IV was so defined and showed obvious signs of efforts, because Rockstar's headquarters and developers were based in New York. With GTA V and Los Santos, it really feels like the developers took the skewed, stereotypical approach of creating the LA rendition into the game.

It's a game, so on that grounds I'm going to say that it doesn't and can't feel like a real life city by virtue of that. I've never been so I can't say much more than that. The comparison photos are great though.

Liberty City, even though it's smaller, felt larger and more like New York...at least the Algonquin, Bohan & Dukes districts did.

With LS...I dunno, I have a difficulty in believing it's a parody of LA.

The shady parts don't feel that shady and the high glamour parts feel like they're missing the glamour.

Also, it's feels very compact. The streets are ample, but the city itself just feels so tiny. Which is a huge miss for me, seeing how much R* decided to use on mountains & hills that could have been used to build more on the city.

This is something that i feel the III era handled better; when you were in Little Haiti, you noticed it. The difference between Staunton/Portland/Shoreside Vale were instantly noticeable and each had their instantly recognizable vibe.

Hell, The Strip felt more like it's counterpart than V's Chinese theater does...

New York City is easy to portray in games though. I run out of fingers trying to count them. HD gen Liberty City is one of the best versions though. I prefer PROTOTYPE's New York though.

I moved here by San Antonio and Austin recently and I havn't scene much.

used to in the mid to late 90's, alot of illegal street races every weekend, then cops cracked down. we do get our fair share of car shows (old school cholo OG cars,tuners,muscle,ratrod/hotrods,sports). all very fun.

It's an underground car scene. Most of the street races that go on are actually not by individuals, but by auto shops that sponsor drivers to race their project cars against those of other auto shops. However, you'll almost never see a street race within the city of Los Angeles itself, the city is patrolled intensely at night by patrols and the streets are so f*cking small you cant even get a good meet up spot or drag race to begin with. Most people race at the outskirts or in the satellite suburb cities around the city, however. They typically go down around the Southern parts of LA, like by the South Bay, Compton, and the docks. Compton is notorious for street races cause some of their streets stretch all the way throughout the region and are almost always empty on dead nights because its in a residential area.

Check out this video:

There's also a strong "Hellaflush"/"Stance" car scene here as well. These tend to go down at around the SGV areas where the Whites and Asians live.

When I was in New Jersey, the drift scene was big, still is from what I here. Bethlehem PA and Englishtown NJ.

Being here in Austin and San antonio, all you see are mustangs.... -_- hardly any euro cars...

you want a euro car down here, you pay double than what you would up north... it's sad.

i wont be going back up to that coldness ever again, no more snow for me :D

I live in L.A and sometimes it does and sometimes it doesnt. I think they made downtown realllllly small. Beverly hills is like right next to sunset BL and Hollywood. They are all the same street street. They made it really small so I dont feel like im in L.A sometimes. I wish they made Hollywood BL more bigger and sunset on a different street. Echo park is also in the wrong place. Overall they still did a good job.

Muscle beach is pretty cool, that general area looks pretty spot on imo but the rest of it has this California in a can feeling.

LA feels like traffic and $4+ gallon gas burning while you are stuck in it. Also covers a large area.

I did feel LC was a little more designed like Manhattan. But Manhattan is truly a surreal experience.
