Reminder: spam

Recommended Posts

Here's a friendly reminder to help you navigate the Online section and, generally, the forums at large:

DON'T SPAM.

If you post one word replies, "inb4lock", single image replies (see: Stephen Colbert eating popcorn, Ron Paul losing his mind) or anything flaming, hateful, or ignorantly dismissive, you could very well be facing a temporary ban.

There's a simple question you will learn to ask yourself: Will the staff appreciate this goofy, last minute joke at the expense of the OP or any ethnic or minority group, or will they tear out my heart and feed it to the underbeasts of Hades? Well, the answer is simple:

DON'T SPAM.

Furthermore, if you see a moderator or other member of staff make a public warning in a topic, and then you decide to continue to go all commando and slip your "idiot confirmed," "Jimmies Rustle: Achieved," or "die plz" in after the fact, you may very well be sent packing permanently. These are troubled times and we don't have the patience to deal with Jokey McInternetDadJokes or his insidious nephew, "Half-assed Hilarity Harry." You want to avoid this fate? Well, the answer is, again, rather simple:

DON'T SPAM!!!

Thanks kids. Feel free to discuss why you think this is unfair below.

Yeah I got a warning for posting a star wars meme yesterday, which got deleted. Got a ton of likes for it though. lol.

But it's your forum, so feel free to moderate it how you like. :)

But I like to spam. ):

Then you, mt friend, will have to adapt to this brave new world.

Will the "show your Garage and character" threads come back to this section instead of Gameplay if we stop spamming ?

They were moved by andyganteks because this section was too cluttered up with pinned threads.

We're going to be doing some re-jigging of everything. Stay tuned.

I think we all have a different definition of "spam". And I can't help but feel discriminated against.

as long as the gif or memes arent offensive and we decide to include them in a longer, more thought out reply, similar to this one, which is more than the single word post that the Forum staff is wanting to avoid happening, then will that not be considered spam?

Because if it is considered spam, I am sad

There has been an upward trend of spam lately. I'm one of the more lenient staff members. I can appreciate a well placed gif as much as the next guy. But when it becomes habitual and blatantly irrelevant, its out of hand.

Remember, the rules are upheld at our discretion. It is our job to interpret them, not yours. If something you post is questionable, just don't post it.

We all just want to have fun with our topics and discussions but we must do so within the rules. Thanks guys.

As long as you guys are consistent in your moderation of the Forums, it's fair. If some people get away with it and others don't, it is not fair...

With (It's spelled Raavi, go edit your post) (Raavi) around, spam will not escape!

I like it when Otter gets sensible *shivers*

To add to that,

Whenever you see a thread you feel isn't appropriate/has been discussed recently/goes in another pinned thread/or is against the Forum Rules in some way shape or form, Do hit that lovely report button, but don't respond. We, as in Forum Staff, will asses the situation and act if appropriate.

Thanks.

I dont even post them but really, no popcorn gifs?

Im on a lot of forums, I get the racist and profane stuff, but I dont get how 1 word replies are that big of a deal. If someone is spamming 1 word replies day in and day out then I would understand.

Gifs make forums fun. This forum is dedicated to one of the most ruthless games ever in terms on content. Why it would be moderated so heavily is beyond me. If this was a pokemon forum I would understand.

Anyone here remember that one time Sivispacem said "Next person to post a .gif gets a Permaban" and that dude replied with a "U Mad?" gif? That was nuts.

Anyway, roger that, Officer Otter :D

I have been a forum regular on another website (Discogs) for over 6 years, so have quite a lot of experience in posting on threads.

If whoever programs this site could add some kind of check that would prevent people from leaving 1 word replies that would be good, except where maybe only a 1 word (or less) reply is enough:

+1

But if you did, there would be ways around it, i.e. people would add qporqwiurpweuori or whatever to their 1 word reply to reach the minimum requirement for posting a reply.

About the gif files, you could probably disable those - I am not a programmer but it should be possible to exempt them from being used or overused.

The other thing I have already suggested would be to allow us to use highlight for doing quotes.

At the moment it 'auto-quotes' the whole post, when normally it is only one or two sentences that I am replying to.

On Discogs, we can't upload images on to forum threads, just links to photos/videos.

We can highlight specific text in posts though, so that helps cut down on the 'clutter' :0)

I've got a question that's kind of relevant...

I recently got warned for "quote train spam", however when posting from mobile it's nigh on impossible not to, it takes ages to delete chunks of text and half the time you end up deleting parts you need to keep in, such as the opening quote tag.

Is there a plugin available on this forum type that will counter this? such as automatically putting spoiler tags in there to tidy things up?

I ask because quote trains are also one of my biggest forum pet peeves but I browse on my phone 90% of the time so it's difficult to avoid.

In that case I would recommend not using quotes but simply using the time-honored @ symbol.

For instance:

Hey, @ senormidget, are you a spanish little person, or a mexican side-dish?

But, but, but.

If we can't post gifs and funny replies what will make me have a giggle every time I come to this wonderful place?

Intelligent and thought provoking discussions are no fun.

I r sad naow.

I will just have to take comfort in ChrilLe's avatar in this time of hardship and attempt to post more useful posts.

While you're at it, how about a search function that, y'know.... works. Current work around is using Google to search with "gta forum" added. Kinda (really) lame. But that's just, you know, my opinion... man.
