Gutslab
Today, we will be looking at Panache Laundering. Location & Background This is a laundromat business located in South Los Santos. It is at the corner of Little Bighorn Avenue and Capital Boulevard. According to wikipedia, "Panache is a word of French origin that carries the connotation of flamboyant manner and reckless courage. The literal translation is a plume, such as is worn on a hat or a helmet, but the reference is to King Henry IV of France (13 December 1553 – 14 May 1610)." So make what you want of that. This building is based off a real laundromat located in Los Angeles called Flaire Cleaners and Laundry (credit to mapping thread for finding this). Overview Now we will take a good look at Panache Laundering. Here is a picture of it's facade. Above the entrance it says WHILE-U-WAIT while the right side says DRY CLEANING below the Panache Laundering sign. We will now move to our left and cover the entire property. This side says EXPRESS LAUNDERING. This is the east side of the building. Not much to be seen, just a lot of graffiti on the walls. The south end of the laundromat contains a small parking lot, two garages and a chain link fence. You can get onto the roof by jumping from the top of a car. Now from the roof, we're looking at the back lot. I accidentally knocked down most of the fence that was there. The journey continues and now we're approaching the west side of the building. As you can see, there is an alleyway on this side which connects to the main street (which is Capital Boulevard). The laundromat is connected to the adjacent building via this bridge (is there a more appropriate term for this?) Here's the view from the top of connecting bridge. And we end back up on the street. Details Let's take a closer look at some of the details. Here's a closeup of the sign, it's pretty nice. The front door. The shutters are halfway down. The vents are open, perhaps to let some clean air flow through or some sh*t. Besides the main entrance, there are two side doors. This one is on the west side of the building. While the other is on the east side, facing Little Bighorn Avenue Between the two garages, there is this buzzer. -------------------------------------------- Edited April 26, 2014 by pokemon4ever omawnakw, paulmgrath, HaythamKenway and 7 others 10 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/702299-exploring-ls-panache-laundering/ Share on other sites

Tacymist
One thing I enjoy a lot in this game, and in the series as a whole, is traveling around the map and admiring all the little details. Good thread, op, this was an interesting little read and I liked the screen shots. no_snacks
Good thread OP. I agree. Keep them in the same thread. The Yellow Jack Inn & Roy's Liquor (next door to Trevor's trailer) would be great to do next. They are both based off the Ski Inn on the Salton Sea. There are also heaps of real life interior images available for comparison to the in-game interior. Can't wait to see the next one. Gutslab
The next place I looked at was the Yellow Jack Inn. Note, my post exceeded the image limit so the last few won't display on the forum. Just click on the link to see them. Background & Info The Yellow Jack Inn is located in the Grand Senora Desert between Panorama Drive and Route 68, a bit before they merge into Senora Way. This a place many players have been to as it was part of some of the SP campaign and is also where you play darts. It is based on the Ski Inn which is in Niland, CA. R* were pretty accurate including some of the details. The gas tank, stairs, trash and tree appear in the game too. I'm not sure what Yellow Jack is a reference too here. From wikipedia, I read that it is a species of marine fish in the Atlantic Ocean. In addition, typhoid fever is sometimes referred to Yellow Jack. It is also synonymous with a separate disease called Yellow Fever. The Interior We'll first look at the inside of this building. This is a VERY detailed interior. Here is the entrance. After you go through the first door, you'll see a coat rack, light and a poster. As well as some classifieds with the usual R* humor. There is second door before you are actually inside. Here's a shot of the bar and most of their inventory. As you can see, there's quite a lot of different objects to look at. A closer look at the background. To the left of the bar is a bunch of signs including their daily special. A small tv sits on top of a fridge. Several locals are in the inn tonight. Besides the seating area, there is a pool table further back and a lot of pictures and signs on the wall. Old school juke box. The pool table and darts board. A pet snake with a cozy home. This appears to be a rear entrance. Going back to the main entrance, we see more memorabilia. They don't look friendly. The Exterior The outside of the building is pretty interesting. This is what it looks like at night. Open for business. To right of the entrance is a couch and another neon sign. The parking lot. There's a blank sign on the NW side of the inn. This appears to be a small storage room. Now we're behind the inn and can see a gas tank. Stairs lead to the second floor. Some boxes and barrels. There's artwork on the wall. From the top of the stairs. The backyard. Clearer shots of the trailer. Trash, trash everywhere. There's a small garage here. The roof of the garage has some barbed wire. Then we move along the side of the building. We're back to the front of the building. Gutslab
Shouldnt this thread be merged with the "Mapping LS" Legendary thread? No. And you fail at reading comprehension again. On the first page of the Mapping LS thread, it states the purpose as: The goal of this thread is to identify buildings and landmarks of Los Angeles recreated within the world of GTA V. Many buildings around Los Santos and its countryside have a real life counterpart in Los Angeles and Southern California. Analysing carefully the various screenshots and trailers, our aim is to understand the geography of Los Santos, and ultimately, trying to recreate the game map For my thread, I'm not identifying buildings or landmarks. I'm actually using some info. from the Mapping LS thread to help develop what I post here. My thread is more about showing a favorite pasttime of GTA games, which is to just explore and enjoy the map for what it is. So I try to do that by visually analyzing some places of interest. no_snacks and SCOOBASTEEB 2 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/702299-exploring-ls-panache-laundering/#findComment-1065263779 Share on other sites
Staten
Interesting idea for a thread. It's kind of like the mapping thread, but it focusses on one building in detail. I like where it's going, so far. By the way, "Panache" and "Flair" share a meaning, so that's probably why they used it. mulder84
Today, we will be looking at Panache Laundering. One of the many buildings that I have passed by without even so much of a casual glance. Great observation, OP! Do you think it has more significance than just adding flavor to the city though? Maybe something to do with future dlcs/updates, ie heists? Like in single player, Lester's always talking about how money has to be laundered after each and every heist. So perhaps this could be a (pretty obvious) place to launder money after participating in online heists? no_snacks
Here are some interior shots of the Ski Inn & Yellow Jack Inn. The real life photos are on the left, sometimes it's hard to tell. Thanks to forum member Boxmonster for this bit of trivia & image. Back in 2006, the Ski Inn had a homemade sign on the roof. It didn't last long, probably because it was made from cheap plywood & fell apart within a few months. The Yellow Jack Inn sign is most probably in recognition of this. EDIT. Forgot to mention the money stuck to the walls & ceiling etc. When you go into the Ski Inn for the first time, the owner or bartender gives you a jar full of coloured marking pens. It's customary for you to write your name or a short message on a dollar bill & stick it on a surface. Edited April 28, 2014 by Wayne Kerr Doland J. Maybe something to do with future dlcs/updates, ie heists? So perhaps this could be a (pretty obvious) place to launder money after participating in online heists? I just view the building as another realistic part of the city. I don't think it will be involved in the any DLC or heists, as I wouldn't expect R* to make the heists that detailed. I think the heists will have a simple structure and only involve your apartment and the bank. And thanks guys, I will try to post some more stuff soon. Gutslab
Next I visited Rex's Diner, aka the place with the dinosaur. The last two images will need to be clicked on to view them. Background & Info This is a restaurant located on Senora Way in the San Chinaski Mountain Range. It is not far from the Davis Quartz. The entrance shot from the freeway. Rex's Diner is named after the purple T-Rex which stands proudly next to the restaurant. This dinosaur sculpture is based off the real life dinosaur sculptures that greet tourists in Cabazon, California. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabazon_Dinosaurs - contains much more details about the dinosaurs Overview So as expected, you can't access an interior here. So we'll just be looking at the outside. This is the Rex's Diner sign, there are two of them. The diner at night. The T-Rex holding the hotdog is the main attraction. I'm sure everyone here has at least driven by it once. But there's actually a lot more to see here. This is the front of the diner. The main doors to the diner. To the left is one set of windows that have neon signs saying Soda Fountain. To the right, the windows say Eat and Beer. Interesting tidbit here that I got from the gta wiki, the bottom of the E neon light is broken, so at night it looks like "Fat" instead of "Eat". If you keep going right, you'll see this other door. It seems like a private entrance for special guests? On this side of the diner (which would be NE when looking at the map), there is a small parking lot. You can see the wind mills in the background. The rear has many objects littered everywhere. This looks like an antique gas pump by Globe Oil, the details are amazing. More parking spaces and a rear door and garage. On this side, the dinosaur's rear can be seen. There's also some boxes. And this rusted forklift. Next to the fuse boxes and AC, a sign reads 'Monster Bites'. There's not much on the diner's roof except.. This green miniature volcano near the center. Smoke rises from the top of it. It's a nice touch. So that was the diner itself. There's quite a few more things behind it. This is what it looks like from the roof. Close shot of the half-trailer. Which sits in front of the bigger one. I saw some NPCs spawn near this, so it could very well still be inhabited. There's a ThriftEX crate on the property, similar to the ones found at the docks. Behind the trailer is this piece of machinery. And behind that are some barrels and some kind of Atomic Pharte cylinder. There's a rear entrance to the diner. This is coming from the windmill area. This was a bit of a surprise. There's a separate business right next to the diner, called Al's Auto Repairs. It's something you'd probably never notice when flying past in a car. This business just seems to be a single garage, with an Autoshop sign. There's also a buzzer on it. There's a door and a rusted out bike on one side of the garage. A few feet away is another small building and a temporary toilet. A blue trailer is also present. Behind the trailer are two trash dumpsters. R* put some detail into this, there's graffiti and various signs on the dumpsters as well as a Blox bottle. A little air and water machine. There are three silos on the entire property. The first one has a ladder that you can climb on and it is situated behind the diner. http://i.imgur.com/g88yasM.jpg This is the view from the top of the silo. http://i.imgur.com/lICxXq6.jpg Looking at Rex's Diner from a distance. no_snacks
@ Pokemon4ever Another great post. I didn't realise there was a little volcano on the roof. I thought it was just an exhaust duct/chimney. Most of us wouldn't be aware of some of the details until you point them out. Please keep them coming. @ BlackNoise The Yellow Jack Inn is one of the only buildings that has an interior that we can compare to real life. There are lots of inside images of the Ski Inn because the interior is more of a tourist attraction than the building itself. I don't think we'll be able to do another interior comparison like that again.
