universetwisters
Welp, this seems to be what GTA modding has turned to = porting X to Y with a sprinkle of Looney Tunes, wool sweaters, Chinese takeout, happy hardcore, ghost hunters, college dorm mini fridges, the sims, VHS tapes, roadkill, Thai nipples, emo guys, autocorrect, and hygiene products. universetwisters
Dancing to the tune of porting GTA 3 to GTA 3? It must be a great tune. I never got the point of conversions. It makes sense if you're doing it for a game that never got released for the PC like LCS or VCS, but its kind of a null point. You can only be so accurate to the original without mucking up somewhere or leaving it unfinished. Now if you were to take something like, say, Alderney from IV and expand greatly on that, then it'd be right up my alley. But if instead, you're going to port it to III or VC, that's just silly. That, clamps on creative freedom, awful innacuracies, yep. GTA modding in a nutshell. @ng - thanks for fixing that. I'm on my iPod and I'm awful with that kind of stuff with it. I don't think whether or not anyone releases anything has anything to do with it. If your regular joe Just waltzes on here and complains about the ratio between conversions to original maps, would you tell the same to him? I was helping nabo45 on his thing for references/plots, but the map itself was pretty unrealistic despite the references (how many times do you see square culdesacs in America?) and he turned down the plot because it had a female protagonist. I would've done up a new one if his only argument wasn't "I don't want no broads running in my town". Why argue? Just leave the project. End rant. But back on topic, I remember reading on GTA mods a few years ago when I was younge an they all seemed NEW and FRESH. Nowadays, it seems like the ratio of original mods to conversions are 1/10. Don't like it? Don't play it. If you're playing it, then you can critique. People can convert what they want. Lots of time its for testing, other times is to see how the game would play on an older map. Nostalgia for the most part. Live simply so others can simply live. universetwisters
Nobody let Phil in on it. No worries, I don't like my Toni Cipriani with Luis Lopez. @ng - I'm not here to change anyone's opinion. I'm only trying to get what's behind the sudden jump to making conversions. At the top of my head, I can only think of three reasons: 1) If a game didn't come out for the PC, and someone didn't have a PS2 or PSP to play it on, like in VCS PC 2) Kinda adding onto the above, if someone sold their old system & games a long time ago and now thinks "aw schucks, I shouldn't have sold X because I wanna play it" and they can't get a hold of their old system/game 3) For research purposes. Say, for instance, someone wants to port the VC map to San Andreas to make a new TC mod off it. Porting it for a base to start editing, or to test/compare physics, whatever the case. I can get that, no prob. I remember playing GTA LC for San Andreas, and it was alright. I had my Claude riding bikes with a shaved head, which I get in that point - features that weren't in SA. Problem was, it didn't have the same atmosphere. I know it's impossible to recreate everything to the "t", but you can't call it 100% accurate then. Looking for the exact original in a conversion mod is like ordering soup at a restaurant, it comes out cold, and you spill it on your shirt. That's a true analogy. It happened to me before. I hate soup with a passion.

nkjellman
This is obviously a joke ripping on many mods Phil. Besides there being many conversions, do you know how many f*cking LCS mods there are on the forums? It's the LCS modpocalipse. A brief rundown. LCS to III LCS to GTA LC LCS on GTA 3 10th Anniversary Edition LCS PC Edition (on VC) LCS PC Edition (on SA:LC) LCS PC Edition (supposed to be 3 LCS mods, one on III, one on VC, and one on SA, also there were plans for an IV version) There were a few more for GTA III and GTA LC. So after this you should totally make Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories Tweak Port Edition Mod PSP Export Value Happy Meal Surprise Mod Feature Fashion Rage. Also do PS2 equivalents as well. Also you should make an LCS mod with an Arcade added where you can play an LCS mod inside the LCS mod. Call it GTA LCS PC Modception Edition. 871761, Igor Bogdanoff and Blackbird88
