Can the Constant Freezing Damage are Consoles?

I was wondering since my PS3 froze twice tonight. It actually will freeze around 2-4 times in a 4 hour session. And I know many other players on both consoles suffer from the same problem. After it froze the around fifth time it wouldn't read the disk. I tried a friends and same thing. It played other games and DVDs so I took it apart and cleaned the lens, put in safe mode and fixed some corrupt files and now I'm good. My thing is that this problem didn't start until the constant freezes. It could be coincidence, and the PS3 failed due to another issue, but the freezing can't be good. And I did the Rock* fix and that did nothing. Is anyone else have having issues with systems aside from the freezing? Thoughts on potential problems due to repeated freezing?

Id take a bet it could induce errors on your hard drive. I'm avoiding freemode as much as i can until they fix it.
