Someone is actually going to serve 18 months for peeing on a building. And I posted this because, well, no pun intended, but I'm kinda pissed. There is not an ounce of morality in sentencing someone to over a year in prison for a 20 second urination. I don't care if you pee on Hillary Clinton. This is just downright corrupt. And I'm aware that harsh sentences happen daily, but this one was hard to believe. Hell I don't know - sometimes I just wish the old generation would just die already. Flūttershy
So people are going to have to spend their tax money to keep a guy who pissed in public in jail for 18 months? This is why we can't have nice things. Edited April 17, 2014 by rawrsnar Niobium, a20characterusername and IVIechanomics

Moth
It really depends. Does this guy have a massive list of charges when it comes to public indecency? This could have been the charge that broke the camel's back. RAS_ZeroZ 1 Formerly known as The General
a20characterusername
It's pretty asinine, but not that harsh compared to other places. In some states, simply urinating in public will get you labelled a sex offender. The U.S. is obsessed with crime and punishment, but that can't be blamed on a single generation, since so many today seem to be perfectly okay with it. But hey we all need our scapegoats. GrandMaster Smith
This coupled with the mass surveillance and recent revelations of torture to innocent people along with the militarized police with armored trucks and fully automatics goes to show what a wondrous police state we've become. In the past two weeks I've seen two separate videos of police officers detaining and literally breaking the arms of children on school property while putting them in handcuffs. Like forcibly f*cking snapping their arms in half while posing no actual threat to the officers. All this on top of daily videos of police committing cold blooded murder in broad daylight. The funniest part is that people still believe this all has to do with 9/11 and absolutely nothing to do with keeping the population under control while we shift to a corporate dictatorship.. Misbegotten cad
Ah, the cop making the arrest obviously saw that the offender had a lot bigger penis that he had, so, out of envy, he made the offender really pay for his crime.

Mister Pink
Problem with the US is the prisons are a big business. I mean people in the US are getting 20 years mandatory sentences for non-violent drug crimes. It's a total sham - the war on drugs. Even a Judge felt the sentences were too big and he couldn't do anything about them as they are mandatory sentences. 5 percent of the worlds population in the U.S. However, 25% of the worlds prisoners alone are in the US. f*cking crazy (2.3 million). The US has the largest incarceration rate in the world. But, it's keep dollars turning. I feel sorry for this guy. His life is f*cked now. He was made an example of and now he'll pay the price. Prison will f*ck him up and he wont be able to get a job after. US is harsh. If anyone is interested, I highly recommend this doc on Netflix. What I learned about Americas prison/justice system will leave you feeling angry and shocked. a20characterusername
Prison will f*ck him up and he wont be able to get a job after. There are plenty of places that are willing to overlook a conviction, depending on the offense and circumstances. There are also programs, both public and private, that help ex-cons find gainful employment as well. It's more difficult, sure, but nowhere near impossible. I agree with just about everything else you said though. Edited April 17, 2014 by gtarelatedusername2 Mister Pink

However, if you've no qualifications or not much experience in a role and maybe you live in a small town, you might have to consider relocating and it's just that bit more difficult. As far as not having qualifications or experiences, that'd count against anyone, con or not. As far as small towns go, I recently moved out of the city into one, and people tend to be pretty tight-knit and understanding, but I know there are just as many towns where newcomers are shunned, especially ones with a 'past'. In states where the prison industry is their bread and butter, such as Kansas, you're pretty much screwed. Melech
Will he get into prison? WTFThisIsntWii
Yeah that seems incredibly harsh... Just going to lock up this bloke for 18 months for public urination. He should just be made to do community service. The way I see it prison should only be used for those who are threat to the community and need to be lock up e.g. murderers, rapists, robbers. Not for some guy who forged a cheque or pissed on a building. Give them community service and strict conditions. Make them work this off, have the bloke clean buildings or the roadside. Didn't Justin Bieber urinate in a public place and it was caught on video? Where's his 18 month sentence.
