Drftslt's top tip for the day...

- if you are not already in a controlled slide when you hit your apex, your doing it wrong.

Try practicing initiating the drift at the corner entry (before the actual need to turn), then control your throttle and counter steer at the apex, and when you start to feel comfortable focus on the exit.

I've seen to many cars mess up by trying to learn drifting backwards. Don't worry how sloppy you are coming out of the corner, that will get better and smoother as you do.

I find it hard to believe anyone can perform a controlled drift in gta v, someone prove me wrong please

You are corrected sir. Let me know if you need anything else.

What did you correct?

Really!? I have to explain sarcasm... I corrected him on the fact that it is possible to perform a controlled drift in this game. With a bit of time, patients, and practice anyone can.

I do feel like an ass now, kinda. Sorry lack of sleep and Damn near 24hr shifts at a hotel will melt your brain. I now see he said "prove"... Well, Google or YouTube. You will see nine out of ten are just sliding around getting lucky but there are those of us out there who know and understand true drifting.

My bad again, I still corrected the fudge outta that.

To add to that, You never ever need to full lock counter steer unless you're pushing too much angle to where your car can't handle it, do not start countersteering immediately after pulling the parking brake, also practice countersteering nice and smooth, you shouldn't need to keep slapping the analog stick back and forth and never full lock the analog stick unless you need to catch yourself when you feel like you're going to spin out. this will teach you to keep the car more consistent and less sloppy. you want a nice clean apex. These tips fall heavily with the Surano, Banshee, Sentinel, and the Futo.

I'm with ya on drifting. It is possible. Hard to get used to, but is possible. I was just confused when you said you corrected him when you just re posted what he said verbatim.

Yeah, my bad. I get off in about twenty minutes. Then instead of sleeping like a normal person who has to be back at it in the morning, I'm going to get on this game. Still not as bad as it was in the fallout days.... never slept.

The picador is great for drifting once you lower the back end 2x. The 4WD helps keep it controlled.

I'll have to try it your way, I've only done it with all 4 wheels dropped, nice little 4WD drift car.

Also everyone I found a cool little parking lot in downtown, just north of Simeon's Dealership, entrance is under the ramp. I got excited when I thought I saw a parking garage to my right, sadly it was gated off. I think I'll never find another parking garage

Patty Wagon?

I've never tried drifting it with all 4 lowered so I'm not sure how it compares. With the rear slammed it still feels very grippy until you put your foot down in a corner and the back end just swings out.

My favorite car park to drift in at the moment is the police car park not far from the heli tours place. The entrance is accross the road from (sorry for the bad explanation) a long criss cross road, where it looks like 2 roads are twisted and overlap on the map.

You enter a little car park with a couple of pillars and then there is a kind of s shaped bend which leads to the lower level which is where the cops are and I've seen armored vehicles spawn in there.

I feel ya bro. This game is my crack cocaine. I know when I get out of work, I'll be playing for at least a few hours. At least today is my Friday!!

The easiest way to drift in this game is to let off the gas, hit the handbrake to get the revs up, (Boost Glitch) and after it gets high revs, you hit the handbrake again to put it into a slide. Hard to explain.

I find just driving how I would really drive is the easiest. You can over complicate drifting. Just take it step by step. Know that you will mess up, you will wreak, and you will spin. It's apart of learning car control. Just be glad you don't have to buy new clutches, tires, and/or body pieces when you do fluck the duck.

Hell yea. Especially cause I'll be using 91 premium octane or higher. No unleaded in my ride!!

LOL. good sh*t ppl. im a big fan of using that center "X" in Los Santos Airport for my drift practice, as im more of a high speed drifter. the way to do it is to not cross any lines youve hit before, so you ride along the long edge closest to the airport entrances/helicopters, cut hard to the switch back, when you come up to the X in the middle, go back toward the hangar side of the end you came from, then repeat.... good hourglass track for testing some turns and burnin thru em.

for those of you that are drifting around parking garages etc, more of a slower speed drift with technical lines, etc:

watch the video i posted earlier... it may seem counter intuitive, but when you flick the left stick back and forth while drifting, you can keep your drift going really well around tight turns, all while tapping e-brake when you get close to corners. it may not look like real drifting in the tire-side camera, but it'll keep you going. its hard to get used to but check out the tuts for help.

oh and its a PADDY WAGON, aka a police truck (same shape as the ambulance), and that's a racist term (not that i care, personally) against irish people for gettin thrown in the truck for being drunk.

flipping your sticks back and forth is ok for beginning drifters but you need to learn to keep it steady and smooth. There's always easy way to do things and then there are the right ways to do things.

Example: I know GTA V driving physics arent super realistic, but look a Formula Drift vs watching some random drifting video in some parking lot. Formula D drivers have learned to keep the steering smooth.

to give your car a stance look, also giving it a better center of gravity allowing it to turn better and essentially drift better.

you must not know too much about cars huh?

In theory that works, but GTA doesn't have the most realistic physics, so you have to do little tricks which will help you drift better. If you don't do the rev glitch, then your car will just slide and slow way down at the end. With the rev glitch, it keeps sliding.

Besides the obvious stance aspect, it changes how a lot of cars perform.

For example, if you lower the back of a picador, it slides around corners really well and feels completely different to stock.

Same goes for the Schwartzer, my personal favorite to lower with the glitch. Lower all 4 corners 2x and drive the schwartzer around the city, it's amazing fun. I haven't found a car that is more fun to drive than the schwartzer when lowered. That's if you want no traction haha.

Some cars it has little to no impact on the performance and is purely a cosmetic change. For example my Felon and Stratum aren't effected by the lowering, and my Carbonizzare can't be lowered (blows up half way through lowering the second corner).

Well I didn't know Rockstar actually had those physics in the game. My apologies.

dont apologize. you didnt do anything wrong, he was being the dick about it. and what he says is really answering you in theory. it makes it drift better because it glitches out and destroys the traction for some reason, making it feel similar to driving in the rain or driving with slidey cars cheat on.

Yes, i will be the first to admit that flicking the left stick back and forth does not look like drifting in the slightest and is kinda ugly, however, you cannot get your car to slide consistently or constantly in tight technical drifts IN THIS GAME without doing so.

personally, i like the higher speed drifts on mountain roads etc, on which, while drifting, i have a constant stick direction hold and do not flutter the steering to keep it going. with my banshee: i will powerslide before the turn to get my drift angle correct so i can countersteer through the slide, right before the apex of the turn (or whatever feels right if slowing down or w/e) i will downshift to get the tires spinning and pin the throttle to accelerate out of the turn.

Drifter's Society

Drifting is something not many know how to do in this game because it's tricky with an automatic transmission.

In this topic I'd like to discuss...

- How to Drift properly

- Best Cars for Rookie Drifters

- Best Cars for Advanced Drifters

- Best Drift Spots

Also, I want every drifter on this forum to share your best experiences while drifting, such as crazy tandems, jump drifts, clean consistent runs. Share videos, montages, etc. What's your favorite drift car and why? What are some crazy drift cars that are underrated?

Learning How Drift in Grand Theft Auto V

Now a lot of people believe drifting is when you whip the tail of your vehicle out and it just drags until it comes back in. This is not the case, this is what is call "Power Sliding" and it is NOT drifting. Drifting is basically controlling your car while it's out of control. When you whip the tail of your vehicle outwards and you start counter-steering you hit the throttle to get the wheels spinning. The goal is to control the car at a certain angle while using the throttle, steering, clutch, brakes, and the parking brake all at the same time. Now that you understand what drifting is, let me explain how all of this works on this game. It's quite simple, but takes a little practice to get used to. Now when you initiate the drift and start using the throttle, when the car is about to bog down or shift, I want you to use the parking brake(E-Brake) as if it was a clutch, like clutch kicking, sometimes you want to let off the gas, then hit the gas and the parking brake at the same time.Other times you can just simply just use the parking brake when you're still using the throttle. This will juke the transmission and downshift it. Basically all your doing is taking control over an automatic transmission since you aren't able to use a manual transmission. Now... GO TRY IT!

Best Drift Cars for Rookie Drifters

These are the easiest cars to learn to drift with, first I want you to start with the Futo since it is the easiest to drift. After that I suggest you start using the Schwartzer(LOWERED) so you can practice with angle. This will teach you how much angle you can drift at, some cars are different, but this will help you in the long run.

Here's the list.

- Futo

- Schwartzer

- Vigero

- Dominator

I suggest you practice with these vehicles in order. Once you've mastered all of these vehicles or if you feel like skipping the Vigero and the Dominator, you can skip to the Advanced Drift Cars.

Best Drift Cars for Advanced Drifters

*BE SURE TO DO THE LOWERING GLITCH ON YOUR VEHICLE BEFORE TESTING IT*

- Fusilade

- Comet

- Phoenix

- Ruiner

- Sentinel XS

- Oracle 1

- Banshee

- Youga

- Surano

Feel free to try them in any order.

If you want a really great challenge, try out the Albany Roosevelt. The Picador is a great AWD Drift car when lowered.

If you guys have other drift spots and drift cars, please list below!

This is The Drifter's Thread share and talk about your experiences.

If you guys ever want to meet up and drift, my Gamertag on XBOX LIVE is Sabre 6s

These are NOT my videos, I am showing an example of actual drifting online without mods or cheats.

I would like to show everyone more examples of drifting, but sadly, no one knows how to drift other vehicles, or I can't seem to find any videos of proper drifting with the vehicles. Hopefully I will be able to record some footage of proper drifting with each vehicle in the list, soon.

I thought i was the only one who knew about this technique, well me and my friends that is lol its cool to see it finally out there. This will Hopefully build a bigger GTA drift community b/c i rarely find fellow drifters/futo enthusiast. If u want to swing it sumtime hit me up on XBOX. GT: jakeyboe

i also lead a drift crew if any1 is interested.

question so I just got the schwartzer and when I lower it, I cannot drift with it, the back end just swings around no matter how hard I steer.. how do I drift with this thing? also do you lower wheels all the way? all 4 wheels?

Lower all 4 wheels 2x.

Watch your angle, this car doesn't hold much because the steering lock is short, similar to the Sentinel XS
