universetwisters
If GTA 5 comes out for the PC, how moddable do you guys think it would be? I know some games these days have pretty good mod support, but GTA 4 wasn't one of them, since trying to mod it's engine was like trying to slam a round peg into a square hole. No only that but with the bulk of the map mods for IV being conversions from past GTA games, I moved on to making games in source. It's still an interesting topic, though. Will GTA 5 have mod support, developer tools, etc. for its PC release? Or will it be locked and hard to get into like IV? divopuforeman
ShadyNexus
Probably like IV I bet. Though Textures will look a LOT better on the PC, I'm sure. Knowing Rockstar, They'll be hesitant on modding due to GTA online.
nicktestbranch
It'll be like modding GTA IV, but I think with GTA IV already being out for so long, it won't take long for the modder community to build up. Wiebrendh

The moddability is determined by how many intelligent people ill be able to dabble with the game's code at a certain time. Asking if there will be mod support, developer tools and such is a really silly question. Rockstar has stopped supporting mods since the hot coffee fiasco. Rockstar never released Dev tools either. Your statement of "slam a round peg" is just wrong. You just need to know what you're doing. And source gets such support because modding is it's backbone. Source is VERY limited (No open world support, LOW actor numbers before instability, clunky mod downloading via server (mainly source 2007), and consistency issues for more modern source builds) and will remain limited until Source2. The game will be the same as the previous. No need to ask. Notice the similarities between IV and III. VERY similar all around. "letz put san andreaz in da gta 5 guize" Edit - who got this moved to the IV coding section? This isn't about coding GTA 4, it's about what modding for GTA 5 would be like, if rockstar is going to release tools for modders like some developers do or not. They moved it in fear of it turning into a PC discussion thread. Classic mods here. Ah well. I'd like to see some great potential with cooler planes in GTA V and... yes. A DeLorean mod. And one that's a time machine. One minute the Union Depository's there, the next minute you're walking out of the hospital. universetwisters
If anything, I'd like to see some more originality in future GTA mods. Conversions may seem cool, but they don't appeal much to me since I have the majority if the games they're converting. I know not everyone else does, but it'd still be neat to explore new places rather than old streets
nicktestbranch
I'd definitely love to see people come up with their own cities to use with the GTA V engine. I never played Gostown Island on GTA IV, but it looked really sweet.

R* made the hot coffee feature in the first place and they just hid it in the files. As far as I remember a modder just unlocked it. I have heard rumors though, of a R.A.G.E Modding Kit for steam. I mean R* did do a Hot Coffee thing with V.

ViceCityStalker
I suppose we will have to wait and see what is possible also I just wanna say I can`t wait for this to go down then everyone can finally fix all the little things that`s wrong with V and I`ve been going on about this for a while now I`m gonna make THE GLORY HOLE THEME PARK a reality in Los Santos. Osho
How moddable will V be for the PC? Quite Frankly, whether we'll have it on PC or not, is a question. I know about a great deal of solid reasons to make certain it will someday, but the longer its taking, makes me more nervous about it. On subject, I certainly want GTA V to be highly moddable (and also feel that Rockstar would allow just about great content creators, PC Exclusive Single Player), and its got the biggest map to date plus the gaming tweaks along with vistas of freedom due to the detailed location and environments make it a solid PC GTA-gaming
WildBrick142
All I hope for is Simple Native Trainer. So much fun with that thing. LSPDFR would be quite nice as well. Sussus Amongus
Andreas
It depends on the knowledge modders have, how familiar they are with the engine and how complicated the game is programmed. If V's engine works similar to the one of GTA IV it won't take too long until there are larger projects in the works. Rockstar will not release any tools, especially not after the Hot Coffee fiasco in 2005. They stopped officially supporting game modifications way back then. All I hope for is Simple Native Trainer. So much fun with that thing.Yeah, I wasted tens of hours with that thing and had plenty of fun with it. Sjaak will probably work on the Simple Native Trainer as soon as the game is out. Ash_735
It should pick up pace quicker this time as tools are already compatible and we all know enough about RAGE now, unlike when GTA IV first hit and we all had to get to grips with that. This and the fact that people have also explored the hell out of the console files, much more than with GTA IV, so it should be rather easy to mod. I know some games these days have pretty good mod support, but GTA 4 wasn't one of them, since trying to mod it's engine was like trying to slam a round peg into a square hole. Don't know what you mean by no mod support, but there are thousands of mods for GTAIV, many work well and seamlessly, others not so much. The file structure is probably close to that of GTAIV, so modders will most likely be able to jump right in and start the ball rolling with the mods. We (hopefully) shall see soon... Vanto
I wonder if adding cars won't be complicated like SA and IV As V uses the same engine, so it would be the same difficulty or easier as it was with IV.

BS_BlackScout
Editing graphics will probably be harder, due to it's complexity, the Timecyc is an example... I think modders abilities to "crack" the game system is the limit.
theNGclan
Sad thing is that if anything doesn't match up to Rockstar's servers then a person who just modded something like a car will likely get thrown in the modders pool. This and the fact that people have also explored the hell out of the console files, much more than with GTA IV, so it should be rather easy to mod. Basically this right here. The modding scene may not be hugely bigger, or there may not be a lot more complex mods than what we see with IV, but everything will happen faster. GooD-NTS already has a big toolset (only for .black right now, though), and from the file mystery hunt the scripts have already been decompiled and most of the natives known. Plus we've got model viewers for basically all the model types. Then there's all those plain-text files V has, much more than IV, so simpler mods are already a thing for V on modded consoles (I've made ~15 really basic mods).
