Matchmaking by Country?

This is more of an Xbox LIVE (not sure about PS3) question more than GTA:O.
I was under the impression that setting your country on your Xbox 360 would make you join players that live there (so if I chose Canada, I would play with Canadians, etc). I've made it so my location is Canada but I've been in games with Americans and Mexicans. While I love to hear different accents and different topics, I can't really relate to anything they're talking about. As racist it may sound, Americans only talk about military and politics and Mexicans throw in their own language in a conversation so it's really confusing. Plus English isn't my "mother tongue" so it can be hard to follow.

So how does matchmaking work in GTA:O? I would play with Canadians in GTA IV but in this one I have more chances of insulting an Australian by playing Men At Work's "Down Under" than talk about moose with a Canadian. What gives?

I'm looking for genuine tips/info, nothing racial here please. Also, I play weekly with 5 Scottish people so that proves I'm not uncomfortable towards others....yeah!

You join. Unknown network error
You try again. Unknown network error
Again. Timed out after 10 seconds
Again. you join after 2 minutes of loading
Once you join. you are thrown into a random game that it connects to
You are spawn killed. then you play normally
As soon as something good/fun happens. Unknown network error
Repeat

You live in Canada and most likely connect with the U.S Servers so you are going to be put into Servers that provide service for the US and mostly with U.S, Canada & Mexico.

 

It's based off the server you are put into rather than what location you put in your profile

Yeah, the forum is quite protective about things that sound racist or sexist....Ah well, hoping this thread answers my answer at least.

It's great to play with people over the world but when you can't understand them it sort of sucks having a mic.

Well if you have friends or crew members you're more likely to connect with whoever they play with. It also randomly puts you with players you have played with before sometimes.

Nope the servers you connect to choose where you go.

 

The reason you hear people from over Europe and other countries is most likely because they came into the session with friends or they've or you've played with other players in the session or you've played with them before otherwise you'd only play with people who play on the same server as you so nope sorry you can't pick.
