Right hand driving in the US

Is it possible to have a vehicle with the steering on the right side in the US that isn't a mail vehicle? Like a car imported from Japan or the UK?

I'm not sure but I think so.

I'm not an american so I am not gonna put my words for it :)

Of course! At least where I'm from, there isn't any law that says you can't. All the cars in the US are made left side drive, but that doesn't make right side drive illegal. I've seen a couple right hand drive Toyota Supras in the last few years, and I've wanted one so bad.

I know a lot of people who have imported Nissan gtr's that are right hand drive into Canada.

Pretty stupid though, passing on a 1 lane is asking for an accident and turning left in some situations is the same.

Meh, driving LHD cars in RHD countries isn't that difficult or dangerous and I don't see why the inverse would be true in the US. If you're aware of what's going on around you it shouldn't be any more risky.

RHD is legal, I've seen a bunch. Most I've seen are mail vehicles, but not all of them. There is a VW Notchback on Craigslist near me that's imported from Australia that's RHD. Going through a drive-thru would be annoying.

Don't you just love toll booths in France?

(By the way, that's the reason the French went with toll booths and not stickers like in Switzerland and Austria.)

I've always been lucky enough to have a front seat passenger. Though a friend of mine didn't for our last euro jaunt and took to using a plastic children's toy fishing net to deliver his coins.

In countries like the UK or Australia, do they have fords, chevys, dodges over there? I would love to see a Dodge Ram with right hand driving.

Yeah we do but all of ours are usually grey imports so remain LHD or are sold in our market only, usually as rehashed and rebadged other things.

I've seen some RHD converted classic muscle cars in the past.

A lot of people I know ended up converting their Civics and Preludes from LHD to RHD. They never got pulled over for it so I guess not.

€44k to buy a 2010 facelift Mustang GT then in Australia...

Wonder how much the import taxes would be here...

http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=SSE-AD-1084461&Cr=0

Holy sh*t that's cheap.

Reason why it's so expensive is because it costs at least $30,000 to convert to RHD. Then all the taxes duties, shipping. Then the companies selling them wanna make $20,000 profit.

Very few American cars are sold in dealerships in Australia.

Ford sold the F250 here in the early 2000's for a year or 2. Now 10 + years later these vehicles cost more than they did brand new.

Australians love big American vehicles, but no dealers can be bothered putting the effort into selling them here.

In Spain basically you would have to pay for the car + shipping

And later when the car gets to Spain, the following:

- Paper work = about 1000€ to 6000€ depending on car.

-ITV (Goverment car inspecction) = 80-200€

- Taxes = 21% of VAT

Enjoy your purchase

There is a guy in Australia that has a 2011 Ram 2500 Longhorn that he has put over $100,000 into. $70,000 for the truck, customs taxes, and shipping from United States to Australia. $30,000 for the conversion to RHD. It looks like it came from the factory.

Check your state laws. It's legal in most states I'm aware of, but there can be exceptions. Essentially, it's part of road worthiness criteria. So look up definitions of road worthy vehicles for your state, and see if it says anything about right/left steering.

Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.

many many years ago, i was riding home from school, was on the highway and a subaru pulls up next to us and i noticed the driver and wheel were sitting on the wrong side of the vehicle, but i do not know if it was an import or a conversion

(NE Ohio)

Going through a drive-thru would be annoying.

Rallys or Checkers might say otherwise lol

That RHD conversion on that RAM looks great. Nothing stands out and says that it's converted. Whoever did it did a really good job.

I know several people with RHD cars. Why wouldn't it be legal?
