NPC bounty sort of bug?

I jacked a car off a player who was trying to run me over, the car was smashed up Feltzer and obviously an NPC vehicle which he stole, but I get a bounty for jacking a player, from an NPC i.e. I get the bounty text messages so it wasn't a player placed bounty. He also had it long enough for him to get the bounty as he was trying to run me over for long enough, but he never got one.

 

This shouldn't happen since I wasn't the one to take it off the NPC in the first place.

 

Imagine what the NPC would be doing. "Hi Lester, you know the guy that stole my car? Well don't bother with him, but the guy that stole it from him? Place a bounty on him."

Was he in passive mode maybe? I dunno thats weird

He wasn't in passive, and even if he was, I don't think that prevents you getting bounties.

When I say jacked, I mean I killed with with a single shot to the head with a pistol, then took his car XD

I've had it happen. The npcs must check the gps and use their connections at nsa to figure out you've got their car. In other news, I've been catching a lot more bounties since 1.12

Its not a bug it was built into the game like that, any random vehicle that you steal you have a potential to get a bounty even if a npc isn't driving it. Same thing if you steal parked cars, no npc in vehicle but you can still get a bounty

I understand that, but even bounties placed from jacking a parked NPC car makes more sense than getting a bounty AFTER someone else has stolen it.
