I have seen some people talking about this and some say it does and other say it doesn't

In your opinion do you think having a Spoiler on the car help it with decreasing the amount of drag and downward force or do you think it's merely a show piece?

yes....tested with Futo, Banshee, Coquette and Comet, GT WING helps a lot.....

Spoilers are for down-force and considering the handling physics in the game, no, they have no effect on performance.

Some spoilers get in the way of shooting straight out your rear window.

Other than that, no they do not affect any performance. GTA is not a racing sim.

You'll see a bunch of threads here on how the racing sucks or how the shooting isn't right, etc. People don't realize GTA isn't a racing game, it isn't a 3rd person shooter. It's an open-world that manages to do all of these things to some extent. It's not f*cking Forza

This is true.

But considering Rockstar created the racing series "Midnight Club", the racing is really dissapointing in GTA V.

Don't understand why the poll is asking a different question to the topic title but...

Nope.

Purely aesthetic.

This is your answer.

Yep, and racing stripes & custom tires make you go faster.

Don't forget the greatest of all racing tips: Paint your car red, because red makes you go faster. One of the oldest tips in the book.

True dat - "red wunz go fasta!":

Red paint, black stripe down the centre, body kit, spoiler, racing tyres = fastest car in the game. Beats Adders and Entities in drag races without any effort - didn't even need any engine upgrades, because the exterior mods do all the hard work. Science! :beerhat:

So considering Rockstar made Rockstar Table Tennis, the tennis in this game should be through the roof realistic, right?

Yes,spoilers change something.I had a Coquette before, put a spoiler on and drifted but it was not good, then I went back to LSC and put "Drift Spoiler" for Coquette and the drifing was absolutely amazing.Try it if you don't believe

No, no, no. It's all about the speed holes.

Those+are+speed+holes+they+make+the+car+

The best part is there are tons of amateur mechanics around town willing to install them for free.

The third option is laughable. The topic is 'do spoilers increase performance', what would how it looks have anything to do with how it performs? Form/Function are not the same.

didnt you know that racing stripes make a car go faster?

jesus told me it is so.

A spoiler actually increases the drag and downforce. In game they do nothing but I voted yes cause I like the look of them.

Table Tennis and Tennis are actually two different things.

Nice try though...

Isn't something like "increase rear weight" written if you highlight the option at LSC? If it really doesn't affect performance, then Rockstar just said another bullcrap.

A spoiler is so lightweight it's not there to add weight. It's design is to angle the flow of air over the car to increase the downforce on the rear end to increase traction at higher speeds.

Seeing as how there is no aerodynamic stat, the spoilers are ALL aesthetic.

Does not alter performance. It does however increase the amount of useless threads on this site.

Adds 100 hp easy

You guys are rough on him.

Performance boost = No

I believe it does increase the resale value of the car though.

Your avatar gave me goosebumps and hard, cold nipples.

How can we all have an 'opinion' on whether it increases performance or not? lol.
If it does or doesn't, it's fact.
They're purely aesthetic in-game.

I do think that people are having a bit too much of the placebo effect, however.

Excellent yes/no question there....

GTA:Online = aesthetic only

80% of spoilers IRL = aesthetic only (see spoilers on FWD cars as examples)

Form and function are NOT the same thing.

A product that performs nearly as well as it's competition, but looks really nice/good is said to have FORM OVER FUNCTION.

A product that outperforms it's competition, but is not pleasing to the eye/has poor aesthetics is said to have FUNCTION OVER FORM.

Cheers

Miss Malevolent

I only use it for looks.

I think only the engine upgrades change performance...and many of those do it in such an infinitesimal way...if you do it, it's just cause you're being anal about upgrading.

I tend, however, not to use the gigantic wings...cause they are aesthetically displeasing to my eye. I will do a small wing...or mid-wing for a little flair.
