Who still needs GPS?

I'm 140 and still need it, I know for the most part but I often don't know the quickest way

The GPS doesn't always give the quickest route.

The fastest legal route. No cross country, not against traffic, not through alleys.

I use it, but don't usually follow the route it sets for me. I just head for the destination point.

it's also the easiest route

sometimes deviating from it might seem like a good idea but than you find yourself underneath a bridge you were supposed to cross or something like that.

always hate when that happens.

GPS IRL usually takes the route that uses a combination of higher speeds and shorter distances obviously it depends but if you select fastest route it wont take you the shortest and the shortest route wont take you the fastest. Unless the destination isn't far.

As this is GTA I assume the road speed limit doesn't have an effect on the GPS so it will take you the shortest distance which isn't always the fastest as it could have some parts that don't allow you to go flat out or go as fast as you could taking a different route.

It's best seen on the road to Madrazo's house. If you go left there is a fast turn then a slightly curvy road which can be treated as a straight road but the GPS tells you to go right with I believe a few major turns. Yeah... not a great description but if you know what I mean then it's all good.

I dont know why but this seems like the first map which i just cant learn for a reason.

I still know all the 3d universe maps by heart and alot of custom maps for them.

However it doesnt work on v... sure i know the hotspota but thats it.

I feel the exact same way. I know GTA SA like the back of my hand.

I stopped using it probably around level 80. I'm 101 now. I pretty much know my way around, not street by street, but I know generally where to go until I run into a street or landmark I'm familiar with and then I know where to go. At most I'll use GPS just to see a quick route but then I'll turn it off and drive.

If you are dependent on it, try not using it for a day.

You'll find shortcuts all over the damn place, you'll find tons of details you have missed, etc.

Missions, totally makes sense to use it... but in freeroam, do yourself a huge favor and don't.

You know the fastest way to Martin's house isn't the route the GPS gives, so don't assume any other route is faster.

I keep it on as a reference but I tend to ignore it's route for faster and straighter ways.

It is often not the fastest route at all! Pay attention next time you use it and ask yourself "why am I making so many unnecessary turns?" I believe it plots the shortest linear distance based on the street map and rights of way... But as with all GTA games, the map is built with lots of twisting and dead-ending streets. This makes the map far more interesting than a pure grid system, and gives the illusion of the map being larger than it is.

Bottom line: there is no replacement for learning the map.

I don't need it but it does help. I might consider turning it off again. I had it off in story mode in the beginning until I got incredibly lost

Often use it but dont follow it religiously. There are parts of the map I know really well and some I don't. So I use the gps as a rough guide. Dont always follow it. I often take routes that can drop half mile of the distance to destination. By cutting through an alley or something.

I use it for the roads between Los Santos and Sandy Shores, so like Vinewood Hills. I am not very often there.

But Los Santos is going pretty good right now without GPS.

I still remember every single place and street from GTA: San Andreas, and last time I played this was 5 years ago.

I have the directions to the closest LSC from my garage, and I know how to get around a bit but it's just impossible to memorize unless you play nonstop.
