a lot of you like to show off your local scenery just to say "wow, that showed them, they must think they place I live in is awesome now." I'm one of those people. And you know what, so are you.

also, i know you love the eiffel tower or the statue of libery and all that, but try to keep it local. Like that one pub that's been open since 1552. Or for the Americans, that one suburban street that looks like every other suburban street in the country.

i'll start us off.

telebashnia-milad-4.jpg

this is the milad tower, i like it. it's local. it's sorta nice looking.

zaha-hadid-heydar-aliyev-center-designbo

this is the heydar aliyev center in azerbaijan, it was designed by an architect who hides vaginas in her designs, and does projects for oppresive regimes like the Republic of Azerbaijan, Iran and Qatar. her name is zaha hadid, famous for enabling the 2022 world cup to be held inside a vagina.

right. you get it.

Yes, the Milad Tower is beautiful, I was there in the summer 2012 (I'm a Persian too).

There is nothing interesting here in Norway.

I have a couple favorite landmarks. The first, of course, being the Space Needle in Seattle.

SeattleSpaceNeedle.jpg

Localwise, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame seems pretty cool. It gives this miserable city an identity that otherwise would make this place as irrelevant as North Dakota.

Nice thread man, but that "wow, that showed them" thing isn't cool.

Probably my favorite local landmark is the Vanderbilt Museum in Centerport, NY. Don't know why, just is.

My favorite all time local landmark. Too bad it's gone :/ I can't believe fine pieces of culture get destroyed so frequently. The building was certified as being structurally sound for like another 60 years at least.

Here it is after the roof collapsed because of heavy snow.

RIP HHH Metrodome 1982-2014 :/

And some people might recognize this place as well

Other than that we have nothing of interest. Besides the Mall Of America I guess

Oops, didn't read the 'local' part. Here's some landmarks here locally and around my parts (Savannah, GA).

River Street

0a829f6b686fa3477e7ad31691f86a0e.png

faaaddc64bd6c490e1722824dedca68d.png

(Pretty old piece of history, and the street still has the original cobblestone laid by hand well over a century ago.) It's a good mile long or so and world renowned for it's festivals, history and especially St. Paddy's Day.)

Cathedral of St. John the Baptist (Founded in 1700)

2008_06_28_Felty_LawsuitSavannah_ph_Cath

(The inside is beautiful.. they are still doing some restorations on the outside to this day, the crossed at the top were being removed last time I rode by, I would guess to be cleaned/polished.)

Fort Jackson

486fe3b3e00301b15a510d718df6bfc1.png

Old_Fort_Jackson_1.jpg

Awesome how it still has the destruction of old cannonballs being fired onto it.

First African Baptist Church

First-African-Baptist.jpg

(Claimed to be the first church for the first negro Baptists in North America.. was founded by slaves in 1775)

Juliette Gordon Low's house (Founder of Girl Scouts USA)

juliette-gordon-low-house.jpg

12-Birthplace-Library11.png

There are so many more landmarks those stand out a lot to me. I've visited Fort Jackson numerous times as a kid and adult and it never gets old seeing history first hand.

The Rocky Statue when it was at the Spectrum(demolished in 2010/2011 - The Spectrum, not the statue).

11-rocky-statue-at-spectrum.jpg

"Meet ya at the Rocky statue". No matter what concert you were at or whatever...no matter how f*cked up you were...If the world got away from you, all you had to do was get to the Rocky statue.

Locally, the Epcot ball was always my favorite Disney landmark. My mom's best friend claimed that she knew exactly how many triangles were on it, because she used to work the gift stands outside it.

I haven't payed much attention to Orlando's actual monuments. There's a few cool art installations in the skyscrapers and hospitals and stuff, but I couldn't name any of them. The city acquired some sculptures recently, but I haven't really looked at them either. There's one they put right on the head of our downtown's lake that my grandmother really likes.

orlando_take_flight.jpg

My favorite non-local is Stone Mountain, near Atlanta. GunWrath posted a picture of it already.

Also the Marblehead Lighthouse in Ohio, because I like lighthouses, and my mom's from the area so she had a coffee mug with a picture of it on there, and I think I've been up in it a couple times when I was young.

marblehead_lighthouse.jpg

(That counts as local since noone else was ever gonna show it off. :p)

These are all local to me. We've got:

The Deep. (It's an aquarium).

The_Deep_at_night800600.jpg

The Humber Bridge. Was the longest suspension bridge in the world when it opened and was so for 16 years. Now it's the 7th longest, but still the longest you can cross on foot.

Humber_Bridge.png

Holy Trinity Church. Built around 1300 and is the largest parish church in England by floor area.

That's about it.

Some interesting landmarks here in Pretoria, South Africa...

The Voortrekker Monument - arguably the most iconic landmark in the city. It's one of the first places you see when you drive into Pretoria on the main highway.

sun%20god%20temple(1).jpg

Lightning-Voortrekker-Monument-Pretoria-

The Union Buildings - which is basically South Africa's equivalent of the White House. It's where every president gets inaugurated, and it's where the president's office is located. I live fairly close to this place..

www.gauteng.net-Union-Buildings1-620x0.j

Freedom Park - never been there but I think it looks pretty cool. At the top of the image you can also see the University of South Africa (UNISA)

Tb8fCbr.jpg

I have absolutely no idea what this waterfall is called, but I live just a few minutes away

143393809.jV1HzJEf.SouthAfricaFeb12056.j

Loftus Versfeld Stadium - Home of the Blue Bulls!!!! It was also used as a 2010 Fifa World Cup stadium. You can't see it in this photo, but my old high school (AFFIES  ) is situated just across the road to the right... (You can see part of the University of Pretoria at the top of the image)

Q1 Surfers Paradise. Tallest building in Australia and 5th tallest residential building in the world. I've been right up top to the nightclub over looking Surfers Paradise at night.

Not good if you're afraid of heights like I am lol.

Nice stuff people.

@GunWrath, I believe a trip to Savannah is in order.

Bisotun_Iran_Relief_Achamenid_Period.JPG

There is something similar to the Stone Mountain in Iran, although I believe it's a few thousand years older.

The rest of you have some awesome sights as well.

Another one of my favorite non-local sights is the Naqsh i-Jahan square, constructed circa 1598-1629

There are a few chalk-rock formations left here from a few million years ago when this place used to be a sea. People like to steal shark teeth and fossils from the place. Then there's this big sculpture of a guy killing an animal. People like to take pictures of themselves behind the animal's butt, as if they're screwing it. Oh, then there's all the truck stops. People really like those.

Ooh ok, I like this topic.

Renwick Hospital, this is the same hospital that was used in GTA IV for The Snow Storm.

Smallpox_Hospital.jpg?1335198586

And another local one, the Huniad Castle.

Here is a place in the middle of the woods nearby called the Dahlinger ruins in Dearborn, Michigan.

57956831.jpg

57956822.jpg

Due to poor preparation, I got lost in the woods for about 45 minutes before calling it quits when I went to go look for it because it was the middle of summer and really hot and half of the woods was like a swamp with knee high water. I later found out that I entered the woods from the exact opposite side where this was located at. Here are some more locations around Detroit.:ph34r:
