I only bought it once for the PS3 and I am very proud of it. I don't regret not buying it for PS4, PC or PS5. Why should I buy it??

Eh I'd only buy it for the PC so you can install  mods like Euphoria physics, better gun sounds/recoil, better first person, steering wheel support. and mod the traffic so DLC cars appear. Make the game better than what it originally was.

But I doubt the PS5 version is going to have any of that. I bet it'll only have ray-tracing LOL.

Probably not even that tbh, they will just put the visual settings to max and call it a day i bet.

Simply standing next to NPCs, even in places that make sense, such as a crowded metro where all the other NPCs are already gathered near each other, is enough to make them call the cops.

And you know the office for the stripclub that Trevor takes over? Some homeless NPCs will spawn outside the door if you load an autosave as Trevor, and any time you walk out, you will spook the homeless NPCs. They'll stare at you a while, then shuffle off in a hurry, and there's a 50/50 chance they'll take out their shiny iFruit phone and call the cops on you.

The whole AI is flawed.

I cant believe Im not the only ones that noticed this! When people were praising GTAV for raising the bar for videogames I was honestly so f*cking confused...I just asked "how?"

I can give the game credit where its due though, for a 2013 game, the animations and details are top notch and so are the graphics but basically everyother aspect is subpar

It really does bother me that this game's single player is fighting tooth and nail just to rival the amount of content of the original Saints Row 2006.

The game was so detailed to the point where if you were stealing certain types of cars, NPCs would avoid the area and using that type of car.

Absolutely. I was impressed enough with GTA V ("Story Mode") that it induced me to join this forum, but it was primarily because of the characterization, and--me being really big on atmosphere and exploration--the realistic, detailed, non-copy/pasted world that I had never experienced in any other game.

It was mostly as an Interactive Story that I found GTA V to be impressive. Maybe in that regard it raises the bar, but like you said: As a game--for open-world gameplay--I think it lowers the bar significantly. At least regarding what people think a single-player open-world game should offer.

Crysis (2007), which is of course not an open-world game, has 100X the open-world-type sandbox gameplay and overall freedom. Crysis is similar in that you experience a series of cutscenes throughout the game, but in between the cutscenes you are only given an objective, and it doesn't matter how in the world you achieve it, as long as it's achieved. That was always the promise of open-world games.

A person can make excuses for why any comparison is illegitimate (i.e. "It's a much smaller game!"), but look at Just Cause 2: Unlike Crysis, it is an open-world game, and its world is 8X larger than GTA V's, but yet it is far closer to what I consider proper open-world gameplay.

It's the difference between being given the important goal and being trusted to achieve it in the manner necessary, while reacting to unknown & changing conditions.....and being a small child who is given explicit instructions on how to go to the market, and "Don't forget anything!" and "Don't take too long!".

I was never crazy about Grand Theft Auto V. I mean, I was excited when it was announced, but... I don't know. Maybe because I've never wanted more than one protagonist. Oh, and I don't like Los Angeles.

Me neither. I especially don't like the fact that majority of American media is set there (or in New York). It makes people think the United States is made up entirely of those two cities.

I'm doing a 100% run right now, and today I was doing stunt jumps. I got to the steep fake road ramps on the side of the parking garage at the airport, and there was a shuttle blocking the east one. So I park my car by the wall, ready to do the jump, walk over to the shuttle to move it, bam two star wanted level just for that, then I look over to the side and my car has despawned because I turned around and walked ten feet away. Kusoge.

HOW'S ANNIE?

Very minor; but after doing an "immersion" playthrough of IV I went to V to do the same thing. One tiny thing I noticed is because the game likes to jump time a lot for story missions, progression of in-game days is pretty broken.

For example, I did both Jewellery Store heist setups on Sunday. Time skipped forward one day to the heist... Still Sunday. Do the heist, skip forward one day to do Mr Phillips... It's still Sunday

True, i think the same thing happens in rdr2 and can sometimes be really jarring because of how sudden the time change can be sometimes

I can not stress how much this frustrated and disappointed me about the game. It is not a little thing.

It's a farce in a game called 'Grand Theft Auto'. Rockstar probably justified doing nothing about it: "Well, that's what happens you leave a vehicle unattended. For eight seconds." Uhhh, no....Not unless it was stolen by a UFO with a stealth teleportation beam, 'cause I certainly didn't hear anything.

And it wasn't even fixed in the enhanced version, obviously, since the PC version is the only one I played.

After my last post, I thought about trying to find a mod for my next playthrough that would prevent vehicles from disappearing when you turn around. Has anyone tried 'Entity Persistence'? (https://www.lcpdfr.com/downloads/gta5mods/scripts/7907-entity-persistence-keeps-entities-persistent/)? This seems like it would solve not only that problem, but also the issue with vehicles/peds disappearing during traffic jams & pile-ups, which really puts a damper on my pursuit of mayhem.

I also found another one called 'Persistence II', but my browser was bugging out and I couldn't read all of the info.

The big problem with this game is it punishes you for having fun. Whenever I start to mess around and do my own thing I usually am looking at the wasted hospital cutscene every 4 minutes which is insane. The health of the player is too low and even inside a car when trying to get away the police will magically have perfect aim to kill you while moving away! I only have played it on PS3 but once I do another playthrough on PC I think it'll be a much better gameplay experience because I can craft and balance the game (on top of the excellent foundation) so I can actually enjoy it ffs. They traded the fun for hyper-realism. They left out vigilante mode which is my favorite thing to do in a game that was suppose to have it all lol.

Yeah, you do anything and you are wanted, you can't just mess around and have fun with the games mechanics anymore without the cops coming after you and then killing you

I think that this comes back to the (nonexistent) "cops & robbers" simulation, and the behavior of the cops in general that so many people have pointed out.

The cops coming after you--even attempting to kill you--would not be near as bad if you could realistically escape, instead of the existing system that is both ultra-simplistic but also tedious and annoying. Basically, instead of cops being the start of a new challenge, of a new phase of fun, it's essentially The End. Whether you get wasted or escape, it doesn't matter--the fun ended when the cops showed up.

it's because of GTA V that i no longer trust hype and marketing surrounding any new upcoming AAA video game.

i'm going to be very wary of cyberpunk 2077. i'm already unimpressed by its dialogue system

I haven't bought a new game since RDRII. The whole industry can suck my fatty, to quote Lester.

I agree with you. A couple years ago I decided that when there's a game that seems interesting, I deliberately avoid any details about it. That way when it releases, if the reports look like it's finished and runs well, I go in blind, without having built up any unrealistically high expectations or negative prejudices.

The worse thing about GTA V is that it isn't about the fans having too high expectations, because there's misleading advertising regarding a bunch of aspects, such as showcasing Trevor's and Franklin's stories like they were going to be heavily revolving around the drug trade and gang life, in which it isn't true at all.

Well, yeah. You just bring up another point I forgot to mention. One of the seedier aspects of the industry.

All of my hype for V was based on what Rockstar had been doing during 7th gen. After the masterpiece marathon that was GTA IV > MCLA > RDR > LA Noire > Max Payne 3 how could this game not be the best ever made? They had mastered map design, they had mastered physics, they had mastered gunplay, they had mastered driving, they had mastered storytelling, and then V comes out and it is the exact opposite of everything they had been building to. Every single aspect of the game was weaker than their previous releases. I honestly don't understand what happened with this game. I expected GTA IV on steroids and I got Saints Row V instead.

How about the first f*cking trailer showing us houses covered in objects and peds with unique lifelike routines and animations and then the game comes out and none of it is there? How about shot of the hikers in front of the mountain? They made this game look like the most advanced detailed game ever made, like it was going to be epic and huge. They just straight up lied. We're about to see the third release of the game and none of this stuff will be rectified. Over a decade of work on the game and they can't even match what they showcased in the first trailer in 2011.

I know hindsight is 20/20, but the only thing I don't agree with is that LA Noire and Max Payne 3 were masterpieces.

Anyway, I was already convinced that there's never going to be a GTA VI, but rather just a GTA Online II, but I just heard something about an announcement that Rockstar is going to be making "smaller" games from now on, so whatever happens, it seems certain that GTA as we know it is done.

Pffft. "Story Mode". Like I said before, that alone should have sent up immediate red flags. Not "Gameplay Mode". No, no....that goes by the name of Online.
