Sure, but that doesn't make GTA V's missions any less blatantly scripted.

One of the best missions in the franchise if not the best.

I like how you ignored his argument and started bashing IV instead. You claim that V has the best missions but then proceed to ignore the worst ones. That's just bad reasoning. IV being boring doesn't hide the flaws of V.

TBOGT had checkpoints before V and it still wasn't as scripted and restrictive as V. This is a feat of a IV's DLC, not V and the DLC definitely wasn't a control freak about it.

I like GTAV, but there is a reason it's called 'Story Mode' and not 'Gameplay Mode'. It wasn't the core gameplay that kept me going in V.

Story Mode itself isn't a cash grab or anything--it's an epic achievement for what it is--but I'm convinced that they intended Story Mode as a means of getting people hooked on the characters and world, after which they're supposed to continue on to Online for the gameplay (Not me though...I don't support "Games as a Service" or Pay to Win...or anything that harms immersive SP gaming).

They weren't, though.

They mightn't be what you're looking for in a GTA game, but for many people they were what they were expecting from a crime game, especially given the hitman theme, setting, and the more grounded nature of the game. There's a lot of shootouts, assassinations, chases, and more, but that doesn't mean that a mission is the same as another just because they both involved a shootout or a chase.

I'll be honest with ya, when I first saw the Story Mode button, I felt a weird feeling in my gut. Because usually in every previous GTA game it was either "Start game" or "New Game". As if it was already understood that singleplayer experience is the main point of this game but now.....it seems it has been reduced to being another COD campaign mode.

I would 100% prefer normal missions in Grand Theft Auto V, seriously - driving and shooting. That's enough for me. I don't care about all these wacky missions, which are just... weird.

Wacky is okay too, it's the goddamn tedious bullsh*t ones. Who the f*ck wants to walk slowly around a sea port as Trevor? Who enjoys driving all the way to Paleto Bay and back just to shoot a bank's alarm? Who enjoys yoga and then proceeding to drive Jimmy until you get drugged and fall from the sky? It's some of the most mundane boring ass forced sh*t I ever seen in a video game, let alone a GTA game.

At the end of the day, as you said, I play GTA games so I can drive around, shoot people, do crime stuff and then reap the rewards. So little of that in V. Lord forbid if we actually end up having some fun, can't have that can we R*?

Well, I enjoy them more than driving all across map or blasting endless waves of Merryweather goons, but each to their own. At least we both are satisfied with what we have.

It's not like previous GTA games weren't a hit of their time. V gets the higher numbers because gamers/buyers have grown over the years.

Now what's really interesting is that GTA IV still maintains a higher metacritic score than V if you really wanna compare meaningless numbers.

You know what else makes a lot of money? Michael Bay's Transformer movies. 😁 Must be masterpieces I'm sure you agree.

Depending on your crew choices and all, you probably will get 50 mill per character at best. Not much to buy everything in the game. So yea the real money making business is when you do the assassinations as Franklin and proceed to play sleep simulator as Trevor to sell stocks on time. Yeah, that's exactly what a GTA masterpiece should be about.

The economy in GTA V is awful, businesses don't matter at all because they pay so little it would take ages to get back the money you spent on it, the only way to make decent money is through the stock market instead of playing the game to earn money, it feels tedious and annoying if you want to buy anything in the game and not have to worry about running out and doing the tedious sh*t again

Unfortunately there are many examples of salty GTA V fans in this thread where they've tried to defend/argue against the things people don't like yet they seem to forget that its intention is for people to vent their criticisms. It would be like someone going to the praising thread and doing nothing, but sh*t on everyone who has a positive thing to say about it yet no one does.

It's just trolling as far as I'm concerned.

Businesses honestly feel like they were shoe horned in at the last moment simply for the sake of having something to buy with the millions and millions we get from heists. The problem is the return of a profit compared to the investment is horribly imbalanced and it's a waste of time.

Unlike Vice City, San Andreas and VCS where the businesses actually mattered and had a point the "businesses" in GTA V feel like pointless add ons that weren't very well thought out.

Which is again pointless numbers because I showed you that no matter how good or bad a product really is, the numbers of sales and critics/reviewers/fans do not really give a clear image of its quality.

If GTA V is better than IV, then IV shouldn't be higher in any score. Period. But that's not the case so the numbers argument doesn't work.

It also varies from platform to platform. Not all versions of GTA V have a better userscore than GTA IV and vice versa.

Where the critics are concerned it could be that GTA IV impressed them more (albeit very slightly) on release than GTA V being the first GTA of the generation and the key improvements it brought.

Well, they can defend Grand Theft Auto V all they want - they say they are Grand Theft Auto V fans, but they will forget this failure as soon as Grand Theft Auto VI is released... so, yeah.

Also, 8 years old kids are like: My dad earns more than yours, so he's better!

I assumed it was largely because "Story Mode" and Online are combined together for ratings (which in reality makes absolutely no sense).

At least on GTAForums, GTA V doesn't have much of a core fanbase of its own. Most GTA fans still seem to prefer either SA or IV (or both) over V.

At least on GTAForums, GTA V doesn't have much of a core fanbase of its own. Most GTA fans still seem to prefer either SA or IV (or both) over V.

I guess it's fair to say that one of the reasons GTA V sold better is being more mainstream than GTA IV.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not pretending that the fanbase of GTA IV is more mature than that of GTA V as some might misunderstand, but open-world video games being more lighthearted, over the top, fast paced (at least in gameplay), having a heavier sense of humor, and such usually tend to be more popular than those that are grittier, more grounded, and/or consider quality before quantity. But then again, more popular doesn't always mean objectively better, and vice versa.

Those aren't the only reasons why some would prefer GTA V to GTA IV, but they surely are among them.

It's not just the GTA V that's the issue. Gaming in general seems.....off lately but maybe I'm getting too old (Though I love Injustice 2 and Outer Worlds so it can't be that). I suppose with more and more people coming into video games, the standards are diluting, not in terms of quality but rather what makes a game part of a certain series e.g the debate of whether V is a true GTA or not...because it's very divisive and may continue to astray further. I mean I never once thought Assassin's Creed games will be.....not about assassins but here we are. Hope you like vikings people.
