Just looked up Fresh Meat, wow I can't believe I didn't know that dude was Wei Cheng . Confirms that he was never good antagonist material for me, thought he was just a random goon. That guy Andrei in IV who's around for all of 2 minutes before he gets shot in the head is a million times more memorable "antagonist" than Cheng.

He's probably just as memorable as the minor character that is the Wedding Assassin in the Deal ending in GTA IV. You might feel like you've seen him during the story before, and then remember him when you start a new playthrough and see him alongside Faustin.

The thing with Stretch and Wei Cheng is I feel they still could've worked even with limited screen time. Look at Sonny, Dimitri and even Bulgarin. Those guys are rarely on screen (Well Dimitri isn't after his betrayal) yet their motivations are strong enough for them to remain as consistent threats in the background.

When I first played GTA V I wasn't even sure who the antagonists were supposed to be. I had an idea about Weston and Haines, but it wasn't until I played it again I started realising they were supposed to be 'puppeteers". Then again I think it's stupid in ending C how it's pretty much a "you kill my antagonist" thing and in the other endings they aren't dealt with at all. IMO they're lazily written and felt like they were only included to give Franklin and Trevor their own antagonists. Too much bloating and not enough forcus to me.

Did the past GTA games have memorable Bad Guys?

Heck yeah!

Catalina, Dimitri Rascalov, Jimmy Pegorino, Billy Grey, and Ray Bulgarin are SO much more memorable than GTA V’s main antagonists! I’d even say the same about Frank Tenpenny!

Yeah, well - Stretch could've called Franklin and threatened him, he could've murdered his aunt (or at least burn her house), he could've kidnapped Tanisha... everything. That would make him a very good antagonist. Also, it would be better if his gang (I don't really remember, which gang he belongs to...) shot Franklin whenever he showed up in the neighbourhood.

When it comes to Wei Cheng... I don't even know. Maybe he could've stolen Trevor's bear? That would make whiny Trevor mad.

Playing through Grand Theft Auto V story again... I can't stand that my personalisation of characters doesn't matter because they constantly change clothes!

Kinda dislike it too, if only they wore the ones from the "Outfits" category it would be a lil' better. Switched to Frank one day and he was wearing red jeans, blue shoes a green jacket making him look like a clown

Yes, they do it all the time. Michael wearing pants and a leather jacket would be okay... if the pants matched the jacked, instead he wears suit pants and a leather jacket... come on.

Yeah they could've done so much more. I liked Trevor's phone exchanges with Wei Cheng but he should've had more screen time if they wanted to make him into a main antagonist.

Like, they had a dangerous gang dude just out of prison, a Triad leader, and a Mexican cartel leader right there. But they decided to focus all attention on two white collar guys. I guess they were going for some kind of twist with that but it didn't really work. Steve Haines was a good character and Devin Weston had some good parts too, they had that annoying arrogant privileged dick thing going on pretty well and the potential to be good villains (especially Haines imo). But they didn't make them come across as evil/menacing enough to be a suitable replacement for gang/organised crime antagonists. It was an uphill battle to try because government agency based content simply isn't as exciting or interesting as gang/criminal based content. I heard a suggestion that it would've been better if there was just one white collar guy antagonist, a sort of combination of Haines and Weston, which would both be more menacing and allow more time for the criminal antagonists, and I agree with that.

Steve could have also held Michael's family hostage (instead of them moving out of the house). That would be great and killing him would be much more satisfying.

Also... Stretch and his gang could have raped, or at least attempted to rape Tracey due to Michael's connections with Franklin. That way Michael could have killed Stretch and it would make sense. I know it's dark, but that would make the plot much better.

Now give him a high-rise flat top and he's ready to step into 1994.

I agree indefinitely. I honestly think that Stretch should’ve sent some of his gang members, attempting to either rape Amanda and Tracey or beat up Jimmy due to Michael’s connections with Franklin. I understand that it’s a bit dark but that would’ve made killing him A LOT more satisfying, especially for Michael being the one to kill him.

Additionally, they should’ve had Tao Cheng, his translator, and a few other members of the triads either kill Franklin’s aunt or burn one of his old house down because of his connections with Trevor, and of course, Wei Cheng being the one plotting it. Again, that would’ve made killing Wei Cheng a lot more satisfying and also would’ve made more sense for Franklin to be the one killing him.

R* also should’ve done more with Martin Madrazo as well. If he was a better established character, I bet he could actually make a pretty good final antagonist to kill in ending C.

Also, Trevor seems to care a lot about Tracey. Had Stretch attempted something like that... his gang would be destroyed. That would bring Michael and Trevor closer together, damn.

Reminds me of how much I try to bring myself to not rush through GTA IV's story and instead switch to side-missions and random chaos so that I won't finish the story too fast. Still an amazing experience even after 11 years of release.

Sorry for going off-topic. I had to 😜.

Yeah, as I stated earlier, I'm playing through Grand Theft Auto V's story again and... damn, I really hate when missions start as soon as you enter the house. Just let me get in!

I guess that's why they included an option to save the game on your phone, but.. I've never used it, as I think that going to bed is a proper way of saving the game... I don't know man, I really like to immerse myself in these games.

Gahhh! You guys are doing it wrong, lol!** It's not the story that's good, it's the characterization, the interactions, the dialogue!

I don't know....for me it's kind of like a Tarantino movie (you know--the few good ones)--I don't care about the overarching plot so much as the characters and the crazy situations they get themselves into. The moment-to-moment. The story is just an excuse to let the characters act out.

** Joking, obviously!

EDIT: I realize my standards would probably be higher if I had played any other GTA games...which I want to do ASAP. Rockstar's not making it easy for me, though.

Totally agree with this! The choice of direction with the story does annoy me, and some of the characterisation and individual moments suffer because of it or aren't perfect in themselves either, but for the most part I'm really impressed with the dialogue, interactions, acting, each individual scene. In those areas it's at least on a par with (my favourite) GTA IV imo, sometimes even better. Extremely high quality acting and dialogue.

I like Michael's style too. I can imagine when I'm his age I'll probably be wearing the clothes he wears. Infact I already kinda do.

Two things that bother me though is he can't change shoes in his own wardrobe (Like WTF??) and he can't wear hats. I really wanted him to wear a fedora and roleplay as a mafia hitman with him.

Can change shoes, but unfortunately only if he's wearing suits and chino pants

Actually happened only twice, didn't occur again. Still strange, but not a big deal. GTAV, while is astonishing from a mechanical point of view in my opinion, really is the GTA game with the most bugs right after San Andreas' disastrous Xbox 360 remaster, but it's understandable considering its size and all. Thankfully nothing game breaking!

if i’m corect, the player is able to change shoes only if he’s wearing a suit, or something similiar.

The clothing issue was something they fixed in GTA Online, where you could have five "saved" outfits that your player would casually switch between, sadly they never patched it into single player.

Minor things that I didn't like:

-Cops are way too aggressive similar to the Vice City and GTA 3 cops but worst.

-You die way too easily. Like wtf were you thinking rockstar. If you want the game to be realistic that doesn't mean you have to make you die easily like scsly I get shot 4 times I die. You better not screw this up in GTA 6

-Tank explode way too easily. Like how can you have fun if the tank explodes way too easy like cmon rockstar not everything needs to be realistic.

-You can't push cars, jets or even a bike. Now this is the most dumbest thing ever. Rockstar again not everything needs to be realistic wth were you guys thinking? GTA IV even had this.

-Combat fight is garbage compare to GTA 4. Ok the good thing about combat fight in GTA v is that it's fast paced but the bad thing is you can't do some amazing moves like in GTA SA or GTA IV.

-You can ran out of engine if you get hit by a missile or crash the car many times. This thing needs to be remove in GTA 6. This thing is so annoying. When you get shot by Fort Zancudo missile and suddenly many seconds later the jet ran out of engine. Man I really hate when that thing happen.

-Cars explode way too easily when hit the ground. Now you should've just made the cars works like in GTA SA when you drop it doesn't explode.

Despite those things in GTA V. This game is a masterpiece of a game. But rockstar again plz fix these issues in GTA VI
