Radio Maple Holt

Location: Maple Holt, Rainier, Luther County, Jefferson.

Genre: Late 1980's-early 2000's alternative rock, britpop, hard rock, indie rock, industrial metal, midwest emo, progressive rock, post-grunge, post-hardcore, shoegazing.
"The rock of rebellion, angst and misery without celebrating extreme drug and sex addiction. Alcohol abuse is okay though."
Type: Dynamic radio (plays commercials, Weazel News and Wezael Weather).
DJs: Dan Hoerner & Jeremy Enigk.

ID examples:

"Radio Maple Holt. We have all the emo and post-hardcore stuff from the times when you wouldn't think that being "emo" meant to look as girly and edgy at the same as possible."
"Radio Maple Holt. The alternative. The angst. The REBELLION. The feeling of living in the suburbs of Midwest during the 90's without a need to leave the Northwest (as if Rainier wasn't mostly a suburbia)."
"You expected us to play grunge music? Go screw yourself, buddy. Better listen to music that knows it's okay to be emotional, but it's not okay to commit suicide (don't trust the stereotypes). Better listen to us. Better listen to Radio Maple Holt."
"If you have a family now and act like an average American grown-up adult, but you are still a bit nostalgic about your teenage years full of fighting with rules set up by your strict parents or attending parties just to get rejected by that popular high school girl, we're playing right for you. Radio Maple Holt."
"For the hipsters before the late 2000's made being a hipster "a cool thing". For the old-school emos before pop-punk musicians and wannabe-goths made the subculture an utter trash. For the 4th wave emo bands looking for some inspiration for their upcoming lo-fi tape. It's Radio Maple Holt."

Selected 83.9 FM

Location: University Village, Rainier, Luther County, Jefferson.

Genre: Player's choice ("User Music Player" type station).

"We don't care about music you want to listen to. We only care about YOU and YOUR needs."

Type: Depends on the option chosen in the game's audio settings.

Host: Caroline Kay - a 21 year old self-proclaimed "I'm not like the other girls" type girl. She's convinced that she's quirky and unique, because of dying her hair different color every single week, wearing black Trickster hoodies and white Slan shoes, having a small heart tattoo on her middle fingers, preferring Burger Shot over Pizza This...!, and writing everything lowercase on the Internet. She wants to quit the job as a radio host one day to become an alt pr0n model to which one of the station callers suggests to start an ASMR channel on ElectricHit first and then get drugged and have a lesbian sex tape with an emo-looking stripper.

ID examples:

"Just for you, just for your pleasure (just for your egoism and belief that you are superior because of your taste in music). Non-stop music selection created by your snobbery. Get SELECTED! Selected 83.9! (Selected 83.9!)"
"Don't you hate when other people decide what YOU want to listen to right now, but you've spent all money on everything but not a music streaming service subscription? Or maybe you are a college student in a debt? Maybe you're both, aren't you? We've got something for you! A station where YOU are the DJ and we just comment your taste in music. 83.9 FM - it's Selected! (Selected!)"
"CD's, casette tapes, MP3 files or, maybe if you consider yourself "a music connoisseur", FLAC's... No matter where you've got music, no matter how much time you've spent to download your favorite artist's discography from questionable file sharing services, we will play your music anyway. Welcome to SELECTED! (Welcome to SELECTED!)"
"83.9 FM, your personal mixtape to listen to when you are commuting to work, have a chill day with your friends or even when you are about to increase the murder rate in Luther County. This is SELECTED! (This is SELECTED!)"
"No limits (we are okay even with harsh noise, obscure Eastern European avant-garde composers from the 1960's or whatever people from music-related imageboards suggested you to give a listen), no censored lyrics (unless you don't want your Christian liberal parents to make you grounded for listening all that misogynistic rap music), no radio cuts (unless you just want them for the sake of not getting bored by your 20 minutes long progressive rock songs). You decide about EVERYTHING (even about breaks for commercials or news). YOUR station, OUR commentary. This is Selected 83.9! (Selected 83.9!)"

Radio's mechanism:

Options of the station:

  • Playlist (In order) - there's no DJ, ID's or breaks for commercial/news/weather report. Just pure music played sequentially. The player can switch songs.
  • Playlist (Random) - similar to the option above, but the songs are shuffled. The player is able to skip a currently playing song (another randomly chosen song will be played).
  • Radio (Songs only) - while there's still no DJ and stuff, in this mode it's impossible to switch between the songs. They're played in random order.
  • Radio (Non-commercial) - just like above, shuffled playlist and no ability to change a song. In this mode, Selected 83.9 FM plays only the DJ's lines and the station's ID's. No commercials, news and weather reports.
  • Radio (Commercial) - songs playing in random order without an option to switch between them, all the radio aspects are present (DJ, ID's and breaks).

How the station works:

  • Consoles - songs from other in-game music radio stations can be played on Selected, after buying them at a Vinyl Countdown store.
  • PC - just like in the console version of GTA: State of Jefferson, the player can listen to the songs from in-game radio, but with an extra ability to put one's own music into a specific folder located within the user files (similar to custom music stations from previous GTA titles). One can use the MP3, WMA, WAV and FLAC files for music. If a song file features data about artist and song title written in the "Details" section of the file, info about artist and song title will be displayed on both the radio selection menu and screens of car radios with RDS.

I've always had an idea for an Outrun/Streets Of Rage type station if they were ever gonna do a modern rendition of Vice City. Fever 105 is just a funkier, more energetic post-economic boom VCFL imo so I'm gonna drop this playlist to reflect that idea.

Michael Winslow as the host because he was in those really cheesy Police Academy films which kinda fits the whole urban arcade-y vibe of the whole station.

EDIT: Removed some tracks and added other tracks to amp up the jazz funkiness.

FEVER 105

"All the best in feel-good jazz funk and soul to relive the decadence and suave of the 80s and 90s!"

I’ve had this idea for a big rock station in GTA for a while. The interesting thing about these songs is they all come from a single real life radio station. I was envisioning something like that. The DJ is a fake persona, he’s basically a Jersey Shore type who moved to Vice City in search of a better life among less annoying people, but instead of the leisurely life he envisioned, he ends up as a radio DJ.

My version of a Radio Espantoso in a re-imagined Vice City which plays MPB/rare Brazilian funk and Bossa Nova along with the usual Latin Jazz Funk and Salsa.

Paradise FM, hosted by 2 DJs, with one set playing mostly classic deep house cuts and some disco tracks and the other with a mostly techno-trance centric playlist with an industrial flair. In some ways it's also a rework of the playlist I made for a similar dance station that I wrote in the other thread.

PARADISE FM

"Warehouse vibes, all day, all night. You're in the heat with Paradise."

Genre:

1st Set - Deep House, Disco, Soulful House, Tropical House, Jazz Funk, Acid House

2nd Set - Detroit Techno, Techno-trance, Industrial Dance, Minimal Techno, Psytrance, Goa Trance

Hosts:

1st Set - Glenn Underground

2nd Set - I Hate Models

Location: Vice City, but it also broadcasts in Liberty City.

Type: Continuous

Liberty-State exclusive station that progressively loses it's signal as you travel south to the GTA version of Florida. Partly inspired by Saints Row 1 Hip Hop radio and The Liberty Jam, This version of The Classics plays both underground and mildly mainstream hip hop tracks from the 90s to early-to-mid 2000s instead of the golden age material in IV.

THE CLASSICS 104.1

"Classic hip hop, from a more sanitized, slowly-gentrifying South Bohan, to your stereo across Liberty State."

Genre: 90s-00s Rap, East Coast Hip Hop, Jazz Rap, Gangsta Rap, Conscious Hip Hop

Host: Large Professor

Location: South Bohan, Liberty City. Does not broadcast beyond Liberty State.

Type: Dynamic (with Commercials)

And... now a Vice City exclusive station, and you probably guessed it... VCFL, my third re-working of this station to date. I'd like to imagine that a new-gen version of VCFL would play more mellow 70s-80s quiet storm jams as opposed to The Vibe (Liberty-exclusive), which would probably play 90s-00s neo-soul and mid-90s new jack type stuff. This exclusivity would be contrasted with the presence of Fever 105 (written above) as well as a central modern-day Alt-R&B/Hip Hop station similar to Blonded, of which the name and track list I have yet to conceive of, both of which are available in both Liberty City and Vice City.

Tried to go for a more nighttime City Pop-ish aesthetic with this one.

VICE CITY FOR LOVERS (VCFL)

"Mellow, classic quiet storm joints for that sweet, sweet lovemaking... 'cause it's easy to lose your mind in the city."

Genre: Quiet Storm, Funk, Soul, R&B, Smooth Jazz

Host: Lenny Green

Location: Ocean Beach, Vice City. Does not broadcast in Liberty State

Type: Dynamic

No offense but these all seem like radio stations made by someone who read one playlist for a GTA radio and now wants to shove some random popular songs together without much regard for if they go together.

A draft 2019 version of RMP for the next concept I'm doing that's set between Los Santos, Santa Domingo (San Diego) and Ciudad Vizcaino (Tijuana). Compared to its earlier incarnation this version is slightly more reggae and shoegaze-influenced.

Lowdown draft for the same concept as above, now playing a mixture of psychedelic soul, early disco and 60s Motown hits. One of the bigger stations in the game simply because the Borders concept has a 70s-80s revival aesthetic.

First attempt at redesigning Channel X, with a more stoner rock-ish playlist, but I don't think they mix well with the 80s punk and deathrock stuff. Not very satisfied at how this turned out tbh. A few of the bands featured here are not from the West Coast, but they're popular there. I'm trying to do a format that is very similar to The Rock 94.8 in Saints Row 1, but with a more 90s skate punk/Growing up as a white kid in the West Coast 'burbs kind of vibe. Lemme know what you think. Should I make it more ska punk-like? Should I make it more like a 90s rock/grunge station as a throwback to Radio X in San Andreas, much like the way WCC was to Radio Los Santos? Or is this format just fine?

I didn't like how LSRR in GTA V had a really weird and inconsistent mix of power pop, folk rock, yacht rock, 60s rock and heavy metal tracks. It just felt like they didn't know what kind of tone they wanted to set for the station.

The 2019 version of the station will attempt to address this issue by giving it a driving rock aesthetic similar to K-DST in SA, albeit more inspired by films such as FM, Heavy Metal and Vanishing Point, which would provide a nice contrast to the other mostly beach-centric indie/rock stations I have planned for the Borders concept.

Maybe you should consider making a classic pop/adult contemporary station (unless you also planned to include 80's pop on Non-Stop-Pop FM) hosted by Tom Scharpling (radio host and voice of Greg Universe from Steven Universe), something like "The Cruise 98.6" (which would play classic pop, yacht rock and adult contemporary music from the 1970's up to the late 1990's). Think of the station's music like a mix between Emotion 98.3, Vice City FM and the softer music of V's Los Santos Rock Radio.
