universetwisters
Don't they have a police officer like most schools these days? There's a cop at my school (actually a county sheriff) but he doesn't really walk around or patrol or anything. I don't think he works there anymore. I very seldom see him. lil weasel
The fun thing about a stabbing spree. Many people who have survived say the didn't know they had been stabbed, they thought they were only 'punched'. Being stabbed is quiet, no noisy alerting BANG!. Some people don't feel any pain for a period of time. Clothing may absorb blood flow. So it isn't apparent to persons nearby. Since a person with a knife isn't much of a threat to the Politicals, they have no interest in regulating them. There are actually people who don't believe the 2nd Amendment applies to edged weapons. gtamann123
Don't they have a police officer like most schools these days? Even if they did it could of still taken him a long time to get to the disturbance. And it happened at like 7 A.M so its possible he wasn't even at the school yet. And from what it seems the school is in a nicer suburban area so its possible they don't have a cop Don't they have a police officer like most schools these days? Yeah the one at my high school just sat in an office and then hung out in the lunchroom during the lunch periods. Apparently the school did have a resource officer. They just mentioned him in the press conference. Edited April 9, 2014 by gtamann123 KD himan

gtamann123
What if the cop was on the other end of the school? And how would he have known right away that there was some kid stabbing people in a distant wing of the school? Its possible that the kid could have been going on for a few minutes before the cop even knew.
universetwisters
I think they just keep the cops at school more or less to be more threatening to schoolyard drug dealers and people who bring weapons to school. I remember last year when some dude pulled the knife on me, he told me to come into his office and he said the kid who pulled the knife on me tried to warp the story his way and said I provoked him to pull the knife on me. The cop was yelling and going all like "DID YOU DO IT. ITS A YES OR NO QUESTION". It scared the hell out of me KD himan

Like if someone attacks you and you defend yourself you are punished and treated the same way as them. And one time an acquaintance of mine threatened to stab some kid and brought a knife to school and I had no knowledge of it. But I was still punished because "I had been seen in the hallways with the offender on occasion"

lil weasel
School staff are not there to Police the campus. Their job is to educate. The parents are supposed to instill respect for person and property. And the cops to investigate crime after it occurs. And lastly security firms to supply the hardware and bodies at price for peace of mine. The whole idea of prevention is up to the legislature to pass laws the the people will willingly obey for the sake of the community. {excuse me for falling on the floor, laughing. I don't even think my school has any cameras, come think of it, either the classic-looking ones or the dome-shaped ones. There's more cameras on my school bus than in one of the hallways on my school's campus.

Mr. Scratch
The entire thing took 30 minutes, now he's either the slowest person to ever wear a badge or that school has more corridors than the f*cking TARDIS. lil weasel
A whole new career path. Professional TV Watchers. Hey, aren't the kids being trained for that now? Mr. Scratch
Isn't this why we trade freedom for security these days? So that these sort of things wouldn't happen or at least be of smaller impact?
gtamann123
I agree with weasel. What are we going to do start paying someome to sit and watch the video cameras in a school and wait for something interesting to happen? (Which wont happen 99% of the time anyways) Schools are broke as f*ck as it is. Where are theu going to find the space in the budget to do that? Wait the kid only managed to cut 20 people in a half hour? For some reason I find that hard to belive. Edited April 9, 2014 by gtamann123
universetwisters
Wait the kid only managed to cut 20 people in a half hour? For some reason I find that hard to belive. When I first heard about it, I thought he was going balls-out ninja moves with the knife, having stabbed 20 people before being subdued. But 20 people over the course of half an hour? Damn, it must've been a slow day. That's legit what I imagined the kid doing when I heard the news. Also, this page about Alex Hribal, the stabber, is worth a look. I'll post the key points: 1. His Facebook Page References Hitler 2. The Suspect Was Wielding Two 10-Inch Knives 3. Cops Don't Have a Motive 4. A Classmate Said He Came From a 'Good Family' 5. gtamann123
Hmm maybe im not caught up on what a school cop does these days then. Because my school cop wpuld spend most his day interviewing students connected to events and helping the assistant principal in pursuit of punishment for bad kids. And arresting drug dealers. And standing around looking tough. I domt think he really had time to sit and watch a camera feed. And quite frankly that would have been a waste of his time. Mr. Scratch
Yeah, fine, forget about the guy who was supoosed to keep that from happening. Maybe he could cut off on the time he spends looking tough and watch the cameras for a change, that'd be grand, wouldn't it? gtamann123
Yeah, fine, forget about the guy who was supoosed to keep that from happening. That'd be grand, wouldn't it? But he did stop the suspect and subdue him. It isn't like he just sat there and said "well I will let him tire himself out before I go in to stop him"
