I'm curious - why the hate for cashcards?

For me, it's because I have been a fan of Grand Theft Auto since the start. I have always owned the pc version of every single one right up to IV which I bought on both PS3 and PC. I have even purchased gta vice city and San andreas for android.

Rockstar have never needed cash cards for any of these games even though add ons could be purchased right from gta 1 (gta London which needed the original disc in order to work)

GTA IV had an online version which never used cash cards and had purchasable DLC.

Rockstar didn't need cash cards in the other games because there was no need for in game money. Exactly and they never went bankrupt... They still managed to come out with some of the best games time after time (ok they had a few flops) but they still gained revenue and made a profit with every single game they ever made.

To back up my statement,

Take twos closing share price on the 15th of April 1997 was $5.88, January of this year it was around $17.50 and as of the 8th of April 2014 it closed at $21.17.

Twenty-five U.S. stocks poised to outperform over the next six months

TTWO-Q

It's down today, maybe I should buy some and thank everyone for buying cash cards?

You obviously don't know much about shares.

Daily rates can yo yo for weeks, you have to look at the bigger picture over a period of time to understand how a business is doing.

My estimates for TTWO-Q for this time next year (depending on if they launch any new games this year) is a steady rise up to around $25 a share, it will go stale or a new game will out taking the share price to around $32.

I don't have a problem with cash cards, i just don't understand why people waste money on them when u can make all the money you want in game,.

Because it's the only argument that noobs have to hate on the game. R* released every DLC free, and they still complain "It's too much money, if R* would remove cash cards, we would be able to get them". Cash cards are fine, and don't think they aren't.

i don't hate them because i cant afford them,i hate them because they are the top of the pyramid in a lot of problems....when job payouts were cut,my theory is it was done to sell cash cards, the reason the tank griefers seem to always get the benefit,my theory is so the ones getting the grief, rage and buy a shark card so they can get a tank and retaliate.why do you think the free money give away was fixed as fast as it was,and we still have level 1000 players still running around?....shark cards. these are my opinions, they may not be facts, but I'm positive i am not the only one to see it this way.

Well said I agree. I can afford shark cards but I shouldn't be forced to buy them. While they dont exactly shove them down our throats they are suggested. I mean why do I have to buu a car multiple times for different body styles. The stinger fro example has a convertible hard top and soft top hard top version. Its random what yoi get and when I am paying 500k for a car I should get the one I want

Because they should be adding more content to this depressing thing called GTA:O

Instead, they push out more cash cards ignoring the fact there is nothing too waste the money on.

Plus I don't see why people who have bought cash cards have a narrow mindset of having superiority over other players which boggles the mind

So you're saying that the reason the chances to get a soft top stinger, or a convertible stinger is random, is because of cash cards? I think every cash card conspirer just lost every argument that will ever occur. Congratulations everyone!

Because R* removes everything fun about the game in their patches but will add new cash cards shamelessly.

Either side of the fence you stand on, cash cards aren't going away, so just learn to live with them and pocket some money and don't waste it.

Yep, that 1 cash card really took forever to program in I imagine....

Cash cards are for casual players with deep pockets.

People need to stop bitching about cash cards. As long as people BUY them R* will continue to add new things to GTA O.

Its not hard to earn cash in GTA. Either by playing or cheating.

All I'm saying is I did some small investments back when I was 18 (I have done others since then) but the ones from years ago are nicely becoming my ''retire at 50'' nest egg.

Hi mate , you are not wrong in saying you don't have to buy them as many players have bluntly put “it's my money I'll buy them if I want to”.

It's those who have not bought them suffer because winnings get lowered so more people buy cash cards.

Of course rock* are going to do what they think is best for them but it's just wrong that they would lower money for jobs when it's obvious it will annoy every single player playing online without exception.

That is why there is so much hate for cash cards.

The value of the game is incredible. 60 bucks is such a great bargain given how much I've played the game. I have no problem buying cash cards just to show my appreciation, but you definitely don't even have to pay anything extra!!! Stop complaining!

The wayI see it, Cash Cards were meant to be the balance for people that either have no desire, or the time to invest countless hrs building thier Rank/Bank up. Obvisouly Rockstar designed Online to be more of a long term, grind type of game. A RPG system of sorts you can say. Like any business, you can't please everyone, yet you strive to get a majority of a market to buy your product. It would seem Onlne is really intended for that (legally) 17 - 30 Demographic. A lot of people, especially in today's economy, are either in some kind of school, working part-time, or not at all. That's a lot of free time to spend playing GTA. Yes there's also full time workers with busy schedules that may, or may not be able to spend more than a couple hrs/night playing GTA. If real money isn't a problem, then why not plunk down $20 bucks for a nice initial GTA Bank, and have fun with the time they have. (Personally, if you're really that busy that even a couple hrs/week is hard to come by for gaming, then why even have a system,?) Point is, that's the person's choice.

Just like buying a CD, or Shirt of your favorite rock band helps support them making new music, purchasing cash cards supports Rockstar for making new content. Instead of Heists being free if/when they come, Rockstar could have just charged everyone $10bucks to purchse that pack, or any DLC pack that comes out.

Bottom line is cash cards are optional. If you hate them, don't buy them. Play the game like it's designed. If you do like them, good for you. More GTA $$$ for you to spend on things.

Off-Topic: Do you frequent Jalopnik by any chance?

On-Topic: People who hate them and feel the need to bash those who don't have all the time in the world for them and can't grasp that not everyone is home x amount of hours everyday to grind missions with little payouts.

didn't go through five pages, but, simply put Kimber: all the idiots complaining about them think that R* is greedy and only out to make more and more money, without giving us anything that we want. Do I think that way? No. Have I bought cash cards? Nope, not yet....broke as a joke, thanks to a wife and two kids and only one (small) income.

If you play the game like R* wants (Races, Versus, Missions, Gang Wars, Survivals, Bounties, Parachuting, LTS, Capture, DM, etc etc etc) You don´t need to glitch and no need bitching about cashcards, but people want all, easy with no effort, free and perfect! Too many games and companies dont give a sh*t about a game released and want money for every DLC....

So if you dont like the game like R* did it, go f**ck yourself and go play another game.

R* maybe failed in Online mode but they are putting effort with patches to have a better experience.

Im tired of reading a lot of comments with the same bullsh*t about the game and excuses to glitch money and cars...

I don't "hate" cash cards, but I feel that cash cards were a factor in how unbalanced the economy is more than pure ignorance.

If you need to rank up to unlock weapons/upgrades, then there is really no reason they should cost as much as they do.

But, meh, it's a game. I get over it. I'd rather they take the rank unlocks for freeroam away than the cash cards, tbqh.

Stockholm syndrome is running rampant in this thread.. Cash cards while on the surface seem harmless, they are very f*cking annoying. Whether its about financial problems or not spending $99 for non substantial DLc content is an outrage..

so everyone in this thread who seems so content with such a ridiculous business model, please I double dog dare you to challenge me in this debate.

EDIT - I would also like to add that while I do feel that other packs will release in the online stores and will give the cash cards more relevancy, its just a sad attempt to keep people playing past the 65 dollar mark. Eve if there were 25 different vehicles, weapons, and clothing released it still would not justify a shark card thats worth such a large percentage of the game.

I'm getting tired of developers adding micro transactions to online multiplayer games for health buffs, car mods etc. I work and don't have the time to grind missions to earn $$/xp/rp/whatever. I like games that offer a level playing field from noob to pro. For example GTA IV's multi player was perfect. I'd rather pay for a multiplayer game outright and not have to worry about micro transactions for stuff that should be free. I'm happy to pay R* $$ for new content. I will not pay for content I have already payed for.
