How to make the forums a better place (very long)

I don't understand why you felt the need to make a thread and back it up with a "psychological input", when it's merely about accusing the "lesser" of holding an opinion? I'm sorry is not everyone entitled to their own opinion? And for one, you shouldn't generalize people based on what they post in a forum, it doesn't define them whatsoever, and it shouldn't be taken serious half the time. This is a form of entertainment, is it not? That also drives home my next point, you're seemingly talking down to "lesser" people by depicting them as useless, idiotic, unintelligent, being a "Mongol". Is this some kind of self-proclaimed 'Ego-trip'? You're clearly showing a lack of maturity yourself, so you're no better than anyone else. There's my 2 cents, or am I not entitled to it..

Lol, your post is so brilliant but yet so highly flawed at the same time. I don't know if you noticed but this forum has 586,698 members. What happens when other "less intelligent people," reply to other "less intelligent people's" threads? Oh.

Also, I'd wager that if that kid in the supermarket went shopping with 586,698 parents, I'd be he'd get that candy.

I am as guilty as the next of responding to trolls, however, if I read something that personally offends or insults me I am not going to keep quiet for fear of appearing less intelligent. I am aware of my shortcomings both in education and in life but I have learned to defend what I believe in. If it is taken on board then great but even if not at least I made my point.

You have not earned the right to tell anyone how to act, re-act, behave etc...

This is not your forum, and I for one will not follow the supposed "rules" and "stipulations" you have put forth.

Can someone tell me what the OP is saying I don't get it sounds like a Bible extract...

Well it appears you cant read correct English. Nor do I imagine you read the very first sentence, marked in red to attract members like you from posting..

You write a diatribe about how better you see the world that everyone else, indicate simple black and white parameters (idiots vs intelligent), basically say "Be nice, be quiet be smart" then attack the first comment you see?

It's very obvious, son, that you are only beginning your collegiate journey. Good luck, stick to it, you will learn a lot about life. One of those things is that you do not have all the answers, and that knowledge has several levels and one of the early ones is where you begin to learn more than the surface info. You know just enough to think you have the whole subject in hand but do not now enough to even see how little you have been presented. Next comes learning just enough to where you realize this subject is huge and you really h are on the second rung of a thousand rung ladder. This is where you are with Psychology, the former level. I hope this forum is kind enough to you so you don't lose your zeal for experimentation, but if it doesn't remember this; Non-voluntary members of any "study" generally aren't happy to learn they are a part of one... it's kind of a sh*tty thing to do/say.

OP, obviously, ignoring attention seekers is advisable. The problem here seems more complex than that though. We have gangs of attention seekers plying their trade and supporting each other and posting on each other's moronic threads. So, I don't think ignoring them will have any effect since they probably get enough attention from each other.

Having said that, those threads tend to be titled with ambiguous, hanging questions or statements that invite the reader's curiosity, and so are identifiable and ignorable. So there isn't much of a problem really from my point of view.

I love how everyone who takes a psych class immediately becomes a self-appointed expert.

OP is just regurgitating the same observations countless others have posted in the past, just in a needlessly verbose fashion.

I want to take your topic seriously, but the over wrought condescension that seems to be littered through each of your posts, speaks to a person who is willing to give advice, but unwilling to follow it.

OP asked us not to offend him while he says our post are "idiotic" & the forums being full of, or run by "idiots."

sadly, I stopped reading the OP because of the lack of respect for everyone reading it.

and then there's that guy...

4 pages of dismantling OP as being an overbearing, presumptuous smarty-pants, and you go and repeat his arrogant prejudices in a post that isn't really, let's call it, "bubbling over with signs of higher intelligence", to be polite about about this.

Well my point of this thread to stop those who continue to argue with someone on a topic, stop others from creating idiotic threads, and just plain be annoying. He is just stating his opinion much like you did earlier this morning. If you are criticizing him for voicing his opinion on the matter you are just as much of the problem as the trolls that roam around on these forums, and you are also a hypocrite yourself.

he can voice his opinion alright, if he can handle the reactions. you're the only one here actively trying to stop people from posting, and offering "advice" on how to do so. advice that can be summed up, as many have, in the simple meme "don't feed the trolls".

and i had a hunch you'd be lurking in the shadows, waiting for me to provide you with some kind of a target. feel any more humble today?

Actually, I just got out of my last class today. You, on the other hand have returned several times to reply to others, so its actually you "lurking in the shadows".

Hi, Welcome to the GTAForums.

Seeing that you are new here, it may not be so obvious that the things you posted in the OP are constantly being brought up by staff, and even other long time members.

"Report and move on"

If there is an issue with a member, comment, or thread, just report it and ignore. But unfortunately most people are drawn to internet conflict.

At the end of the day its human nature to stir the nest when there is no accountability. If a billion dollar company like Google cant rid of this problem in Youtube comments, then its ridiculous to expect a group of fans and volunteers to have any more luck on a video game forum.

The only thing you can do is decide whether you are going to be a part of the solution, or the problem.

It's the internet. Nothing will change. Doesn't matter if I ignore them, someone will take the bait. I enjoy calling stupid people on their bullsh*t. It helps prevent dumb stereo types from growing out of control.

Most immature kids will grow with time and repress how stupid they act. How many of us look back and say "Damn, I was so stupid. Why could I not see it?" The answer is simple. Defense mechanisms in your brain do not want you to feel inferior, because the truth is... No one is perfect.

Grow up kids. Life as an adult is much more fun when you get your sh*t together. And learn from your mistakes. That is very important. The dumbest adults are the ones who chose to ignore their flaws in the past. The quest to better ourselves starts with admitting what we need to fix.

Oh, the irony of your post.

I read the OP's OP and tend to agree. Yet, at the same time, the mere fact that in every single one of his replies (including original) there are simple but glaring grammatical errors kind of puts me off. Add that to the stigma of people spouting, "I totally took Psychology class in college. I've got especially important, deeply thought out things to say." and it all kind of falls on deaf ears.

Thank you for your input. I typed the first the first post on my iPhone in about 15 - 20 minutes and read over it to make sure I had correct grammar and everything. When I reply to the comments I usually don't care to be grammatically correct if it's with a friendly person who is agreeing, but if its someone who criticizes me I'm going to try and be as politically/ grammatically correct as possible.

I do believe most of the people who post the unrelated topics and saying "TL;DR LOLOLZ" posts are the ones who are a part of the problem and they refuse to change because of many reasons.

Im back lol but yeah somethings cant go ignored...certain things need to be said. It doesnt make a person more "intelligent" because they decide to bite their tongue. And arguments doesnt equate to stupidity.

now you finally lost me for good. political correctness is prejudice and condescension in a drag. no one with half a heart and a quarter of a brain would use being politically correct as a positive attribute. good bye. enjoy your meagerly suppressed superiority complex.

You are completely correct. I said for the most part, intelligent people are usually soft spoken and tend to talk less, not all of them but a lot do. But biting their tongue does make them more mature in the sense of not continuing an argument that is leading a thread off topic. And many arguments are anything but stupid, many of the ones I've had in this thread were worded very well, and actually consisted of depth and direction. My problem with the forums lately is that the intelligent arguments are met with the immature members who are losing an argument and become offensive and refuse to accept that they are incorrect. This needs to stop.

I definitely understand where you're coming from and I do try to read and comprehend topics before replying to them. The "TL:DR" people just think it's funny to put that for some reason as I see them eagerly waiting for people to "Like This" on their post. To be fair to them though, a lot of people put in walls of text that in the end is completely pointless and a waste of people's time to have read.

In regards to your original post, I think you found main culprit that stuck out for me as you've since edited it :)

This is not your forum, and I for one will not follow the supposed "rules" and "stipulations" you have put forth.

In other words youre going to be a troll feeder....

I am attending college and in my Psych II class we were given an assignment. The assignment was to overlook a concentrated but yet largely diverse group and observe how and if the group got along or not. After finishing my assignment I decided to see if I could find another group to observe and see what makes them "tick". For my 'group' I decided to look at the members of this forum.

From the many things I've learned in life, and the few things I've learned in Psychology, the more intelligent and intellectual a person is, the more unheard they go. They are also more then often belittled by the less intelligent due to the unintelligents own stupidity. My point to this is, The people who are ruining the forums and GTA Online are usually the idiots who have no intelligence (I know, duh).

You still have a long way ahead in your career pal.... As a psychologist you cant start by saying that, its just wrong, the stupid people will get mad against you and will not hear you... Unless of course you dont think you can change them, but if you appeal to the "smart" people on this forums, then the rest will keep with their behavior which is exactly what you do not want...

In other words; your idea is correct but youre delivering it in a bad way.
