SouthLand
Please I ask the mods here to not to lock this topic since it is a real reflection and it can help people to avoid what I am currently going through. On Saturday night I decided to go party with four friends to the “Zona Hermetica” in Sabadell. It’s basically an industrial area but also full of clubs and discos. Anyways, we drove 30km from my friend’s house to the disco on my family’s Volvo S70. When we got there it was 1:00AM so we decided to drink until 2:00AM on the street. I started drinking Vodka Red Bull and Vodka Monster. At 2:00AM I wasn’t drunk (Yet) but I was a bit “happy” so we got into the club and we started dancing and having fun. I ordered a couple of drinks and I started feeling very bad. I couldn’t even walk straight I had too much alcohol in my veins. So I don’t know what happened but someone pushed me and made me leave the club (I couldn’t see if it was a bouncer). I then walked to the car and waited for my friends. While I was in the car I threw up a couple of times on the side walk. I couldn’t drive at all I was very drunk (I have to admit that I was close to an Alcohol poisoning). I waited for my friends in the car and when they came they also where wasted so I told them to sit in the car and sleep for some hours until we felt better and we could drive home. They agreed and I was so wasted I felt a sleep. Some time later, a police officer woke me up. My friend had stolen my car keys and decided to drive wasted to my house while I was sleeping on the back seat. On my town’s highway exit he crashed into a BMW M3 and the BMW owner called the cops. The cops came and then is when I got woken up by the cops. Our car didn’t have too much damage but the BMW had some serious damage. The cops did a alcohol test to my friend who was driving the car and he got 0.60% (Three times over the limit) He got a fast trial and right now he is in court. I didn’t have to go to court because even though it was my family’s car I wasn’t driving. The car got towed to a police deposit since non of my friends were able to drive. Conclusion: - My friend had a Trial today where his driving licence got removed from him for a year, plus a 2000€ fine and last but not least a police record. - I had problems with my mom to the extent where she burst crying into tears (I f*cked up years ago there is already a thread about it) - I have to pay half of my friends trial + 250€ to the BMW owner. - I had one of the worst hang overs of my life… I even feel bad today three days later. - I could have been dead by now. If my friend crashed at top speed or into something else I would have probably died. Car Damage: So please people, don't drink and drive NEVER. And don't let your friends take your car keys away from you. UPDATE: Yesterday night i was laying on my bed erasing pictures from my cellphone and i found two videos of my friend (The one who was driving) when he pulled over after the crash with the BMW and the cops had arrived. In the videos he says that he has done the alcohol test and he's got 0.65% of alcohol (Limit is 0,20%). Not only he lied by 5% to me about the alcohol but he also said in the video that he crashed at 150km/h (93mph) when the limit is 120km/h... Honestly what an as*hole.... Since most of you guys are asking me why did I drove to the club, i am just going to show you a map of why couldn't i just get public transportation to get there. (I did erase my address...) Moonshield
sh*t man, that's rough. Just be glad you guys are safe. That bmw could have been f*cked up a lot more than it is. I've had enough friends and acquaintances to know that driving drunk is f*cking stupid, selfish, and never ever worth it. Otter
Hey, I just wanted to say good on you for taking this on head-on; sounds like it was your buddy who really f*cked up, here. I come from a few small towns (I moved around a bit) where this is common behavior. Everyone thinks they "can handle it" - because, of course, they're too drunk to make the decision, but because there's also a culture that celebrates being able to hold your booze. Forgive me for going Alicia Silverstone here, but, 'as if'. I've lost a few friends to drunken driving accidents and had another, in his prime, paralyzed from the neck down. These were all people who thought they could handle it. You and your friend, I'm sure you realize, lucked out here. Thank you for sharing your story, hopefully it influences a few people around here positively. Finally, you need to control your alcohol intake. It's a fine balance and it's not easy but if you can't learn to pace yourself... take it from this grizzled old f*ck who's nearly destroyed his own life or others' on more than a few occasions: maybe you're better off without it. It's one of those pervasive, controlling substances that grips you, makes you fat, obnoxious, and violent, and lets you think you're in complete control... until you broadside a BMW. preachy preach done: YOU DUN GOOFED, KID! Don't do it again. Glad everyone is safe. Killerdude, Verdant, Ciarán and 2 others

Crazyeighties
I have to say it sucks that your family's car is screwed up. But your friend deserves the punishment for driving drunk I was in a car hit by a drunk when I was a kid it could have been a very bad situation if the truck that hit the car I was in hit the door instead of the fender. I hope he learned his lesson and you yours. Lesson being get drunk at home.... Edited April 8, 2014 by Crazyeighties

Jimmy_Leppard
Anyone who is a real driver doesn't drink and drive, therefore, I'm glad that your friend got his license removed and he can be thankful cause he should've been punished with an even longer period of time without a license. As for you, you actually aren't the guilty one here, you were just asleep. It's not that you could've stopped your friend since you were asleep. I don't get why the court assigned that you need to pay anything to the BMW owner or pay for half of your friend's screw up. Basically, the court fined your sleeping in the car with 1250 €. Good job, court. Dumbasses. But, as much as I don't agree with the court's decision towards you, I'd actually let it slip with the 250 € part because you were wasted. I'd basically make you pay at least 250 € for being a dumbass with no knowledge of your own capabilities as a drinker. However, those other 1000 € you have to pay I don't justify. Kiffster
Lost my dad when I was 12 because of a dumbass drunk driver (who was also killed - hope he learned his damn lesson ). Anyone with half a brain cell should know that driving under the influence is one of the most painfully stupid things you can do. Just be grateful that no one got seriously hurt or killed.. Doc Rikowski
Your friend didn't act like a friend. He just thought about himself. A similar thing happened to me and a friend of mine about 20y ago. We were just incredibly lucky to survive. Don't feel bad. Just learn the lesson and choose your friends wisely. Voodoo and ten-a-penny

Lil ski
Thanks for providing this insightful story. It's f*cked up that you had to pay for your "friend's" dumbass mistakes but it coulda been worse. Like vehicular manslaughter on a family. His ass would be in jail but you'd had to live with that bourdon for the rest of your life. Yeah it's good that you were trying to do the right thing sleeping it off before you get behind the wheel. Your head was in the right spot. But there's other ways this all could have been avoided. Like simply calling cab or another friend to pick you up. Or sh*t even try HIDING the keys from your friend (which you pretty much have to do when sleeping in the car cuz it's illegal in some states over here if you're drunk and keys are visible within reach.) But hey man unfortunately lessons have to be learned. That's how life is and I also thank you for sharing this so no one else will do the same! Crazyeighties
To answer everyone's questions as to why he is being held partly accountable.. I have heard of similar cases where people were charged with negligence because they left their keys in a place that was easily accesible to people that we're not supposed to be driving their car. By being passed out in the car maybe the judge felt like if they had just walked to a hostel, motel none of this would have ever happened..... blitz
Good on you for taking the high road (not literally) and sleeping rather than driving when you were all wasted. If anything, I'd say full blame is on your buddy for drinking irresponsibly AND driving after doing so. My brother's friends crashed (two brothers) when coming home form a party. They both died. It was pretty tough, and I can't begin to imagine what the family must've gone through.
