Mafia II and Gta V

I hear that 2k Czech and R* were supposedly working on V together but then heard that was a rumor so I dunno anyway because they are both owned by Take Two Interactive they do share resources, info, advice and money. Guess thats why there is a little V in Mafia II and some Mafia II in V

I saw the 2k Czech and R* story in mid to late 2012 during the time of Rumors and the infamous long silence. As for the gameplay the most notable thing I have seen was the new crouching( if you would call it that) was not necessary but then again i know programming isn't easy i have been programming for six years now but the point is i don't think a little extra time tweaking the physics would've killed the creators.

I have played and loved Mafia 2. Unfortunately I have never played Mafia 1. I wanted to play it and there were rumors that it was on steam once but It was taken down for some reason. I would really like to give it a try some time seeing how everyone speaks of it so highly.

I played Mafia II, and I spent more time kicking people in the nose (melee combat) than anything else.

The story line was more believable than V's... And going into black neighborhood's and fighting was GREAT! (I'm black)

Mafia II for the month and a half I played it was quaint, and a nice city to explore, but I got bored and never beat it. I had more fun with the Yakuza series. That is probably just me though.

I loved Mafia II. It was even better if you had the Jimmy's Vendetta dlc because then you could turn cars into hot rods. I think it felt really immersive and all the mechanics from the shooting to the driving were perfect. Honestly I find it frustrating and puzzling to see people call it a "sh*t-fest." I feel like the people who hated it are perhaps young and don't appreciate the game's more film-like pace and it's '50s culture.

I really hope they make Mafia III and perhaps learn how to package it in a way that will attract a wider audience without diluting the things I love about Mafia II. From my observations on these forums it seems that people want mini-games in anything remotely resembling an open world game. Perhaps if Mafia II had some activities such as a batting cage or something then it would have been more successful. I think locking the stage 3 tuning until you had the Jimmy's Vendetta dlc was a mistake. I think that could have been a good selling point had it been unlocked in the main game from the start.

Strictly on topic though I think the shooting mechanics being similar between Mafia II and GTA V is just a coincidence. GTA V's shooting mechanics are basically taken straight from Max Payne 3. I think the mechanics are slightly better in Mafia II though.

No question

I believe this is the same situation between GTA V and past GTA Classics too.

People are actually missing the point and few critical aspects that made these classics, so amazing to play over the graphics and map sizes.

It's not that being nostalgic, I am praising the previous games, but it's the subject of "wrong" factors that are being considered as "most important" over "most critical drawbacks" in the core gameplay area that are marked to be the "BEST" in the series.

Mafia 2 looks big, plays nicely and kind of good one-time worth of playing it, but then? what made Mafia Lost Heaven or Past GTA's so good??

Nowhere in Mafia 2 or GTA V, I feel that sense of playing something as damn good and awesome like the Classics, despite almost 10 years old release yet equally enjoyable and wonderful!

Mafia 2 and GTA V are not at all bad rather they look and support arguably much better depth into the world with technology that allows impressive visuals and modern ideas to experiment.

But at the same time the material issues are considered too lightly and brushed aside for not keeping up with what their predecessors set as the most appealing and remembering factor, THE GAME PLAY!

I bought Mafia 2 and played it the day I bought it. Haven't played it since.

Cause if your like me, you beat it the same day you bought. good game/great concept, had the right idea. but ended up being total fail

i agree. i wish they would do proper mafia game again. Mafia TCLH, had a great story would be cool if they re made it.

I always thought the godfather games had good potential, to bad EA was behind the wheel of those. but good concept of building up your family with made guys and capos.

I like 50's culture. I like elvis and johnny be good. I loved back to the future.

This game just had chores for the sake of chores in it. I don't play games to do chores, especially when others have perfectly fine third person shooting and don't have a f*cking fuel mechanic.

I don't begrudge other people for liking it because hey, different tastes, right? But for me, it was one of the worst games I had ever played.

Mafia 2 was a great game and had me immersed much more than the GTA games. One of my favorite things to do in it was go to the dump and race around the dirt roads in it. That game had amazing sound and driving physics. And that's coming from someone who loves GTA 5's driving physics. I like mafia 2's more. But the map felt really big in mafia 2 because of it's invisible boundaries. You could literally see 50+ miles of the map, and it all was unreachable. Also, the gasoline system was really cool. I have a feeling that Watch Dogs will feel quite similar in terms of gameplay and driving physics.

Edit: Now, could you imagine GTA 5 with mafia 2's driving physics and gas stations? That would be amazing.

Befor V was released,i read an article that was about CVG interviewing The Benz (The Producer of GTA since 2001's III and Head of R* North) and he said the programmers added it into the game but cus they had other things to add into V (and reserve for future games) it had to be taken out and didnt make it into the Final version...Atleast GTA have Car Washs since 2008's IV (even before Mafia 2) i am sure many more realistic features would be added in Next-Gen GTAs. You never know, maybe they will add an option to add car handling from Mafia 2, it could work like how auto aim and free aim are. Different multiplayer lobbies for each.

Off topic, Mafia 2 looks INSANE on Xbox.

I love Mafia 2 but if you talk story and NOT GRAPHICS, San Andreas and Mafia(1) City of Lost Heaven are much better, but I am hoping a Mafia 3 is really in the works and I am hoping on a storyline much more in line with the original. As for GTA V being like Mafia 2, I totally see it, especially since I frequently switch back to playing Mafia 2, in fact in Mafia 2 had Multiplayer (please don't lynch me) I think I'd still be playing it most of the time. (Sorry GTA-Gods)

Did you guys play the games released between GTA IV and V (RDR, LA Noire & MP3)? The RAGE engine - And therefore the graphics, gunplay, driving, etc - Has been developed throughout them. The Illusion Engine, used in Mafia II, isn't related in any way to the RAGE engine - While the gunplay in V is a lot better than that of IV, it's not because of Mafia II, it's because the engine has actually been evolving as seen in the in-between games. The driving is basically the same as IV only with a less "floatier" handling, and the graphics are completely different from those of Mafia II.

And when it comes to comparing both games, well... Hard to deny that V is better than Mafia II in nearly every way. It might be arguable that the story of Mafia II is better, but that's about as subjective as we can get - Everything else is much better in GTA V, even though I did enjoy my time in Empire Bay a lot. I think it would have been a much better game if it hadn't lost so much content before release, there was a lot of cut stuff.

mafia 2 and it's older cousin GTA V share a lot of similarities but the biggest is better graphics over better game play for sure.

the highlight of mafia 2 was stealing a pair of blue jeans rather than paying for them at the store than coming back a few minutes later to find the police questioning the clothing store clerk who instantly fingers you as the suspect "Oh damn, it's him, officer! returning to the scene of the crime you dumb motherf*cker!

No it not just GTAO,V is a technical achievement for the PS3/XB360 Era and a superb evolution of a Legendary Franchise,A game with a greater level of Details,A 5th Installment (in fact 15th Overall Game in the Franchise) not afraid to Innovate and Experiment,The first OWG with a totally different Singleplayer Concept (play as 3 different people you can switch to at any time both in missions and in the Openworld Gameplay) A Mega-Blockbuster Installment,a game that shattered the Entertainment Industry Records and put GTA into History Books,a game that pushes consoles to their limits at 512mb and it struggles in terms of framerates and many features that were excluded cus of console limitation,The List Goes on unlike Mafia 2 a f*cked up sequel to a fantastic begining and remember GTA5 (2013) is the fifth in the GTA franchise unlike Mafia 2 (2010) the 2nd in the Mafia Franchise. And oh GTAO was Too ambitious it had a very bad launch (although it getting better with updates). Agreed they need to add some more rat rods and maybe a couple of more coupes.Much like they added the Roosevelt but add more hot rod modifications.

I just ordered Mafia 2 Platinum version from Amazon a couple days ago. Should get it soon. I did a lot of YouTube research on it and it looks good. But something I noticed in reading all these forum replies is that I don't see anyone saying that they still play the game. Si I take it that after the campaign is over the free roam and replay value is low. Is that an accurate assessment ?. I'm big on free roam play so I was hoping it would be a game that would last for awhile. Does anyone who played it still go back to it for any reason?
