Mafia II and Gta V

Cloud Strife VII

I felt that this needed to be a topic since nobody will pay attention on the Q&A thread. I think with the crouching, gun, and vehicle controls are based from Mafia. Now before you get you pitchforks on me here me out. Mafia II is made by 2k and if I remember correctly 2k is the sister company of Rockstar Games which in turn is under Take2Games. Now long ago before Gta V was released there was a news article that said that 2k would be helping with some of the production to help increase workflow for gta. Now Raavi before you get the banhammer on me i hope you understand that i have scouted the forums for a while and haven't found a single topic on the matter. So if anybodybody wishes to discuss this topic keep it going it's a good thread.

Cheers :beerhat:

nobody will pay attention on the Q&A thread.

Before we go further, that statement is completely untrue.

Under just the right circumstances, in just the right settings and at just the right time of day, you can see glimmers and shimmers of GTA V's graphics in Mafia II.

I really liked Mafia 2, the story was great. I just hated how other than missions there was literally nothing to do. The playboys also helped.

At least they didn't take cleaning toilets and fuel from that f*cking sh*tfest. So hey, we all got things to be grateful for.

Yes, I did choose the approach with mopping for the FIB raid. But that was actually tense and added something. Know why? Because you were sneakily hiding f*cking napalm everywhere while you were doing it. It felt tense, you didn't want to be caught and be shot to death. It actually had something to it.

Mafia II just had you clean toilets just for the hell of it. Out of nowhere and for no reason. It just wastes your f*cking time and adds nothing to the supposedly awesome story while doing so. It was just there to waste your time and make sure you had no fun while doing so. There was also the point before where you had to carry crates, and the points afterwards where you literally drive your drunk friends home while listening to them sing. I felt like someone taking their kids to soccer practice. And then the f*cking thing where you're told which color of cigarette packets to sell to people, walk to that color, and press a button.

And all of the DLC is basically just ripping off GTA 3 but without any cool activities. Making Mafia II's DLC the worst sandbox games to ever be released. In my opinion, anyways.

If you drive up to the suburbs overlooking Empire bay during the afternoon, the city below looks vast and beautiful, reminds me of Hitman Absolution :)

I love Mafia 2, always have and yes, I agree with the gun gameplay part, V does feel quite the same, don't agree with the vehicle part though and after playing both to compare, V has a 'half crouch, half hunched-over' crouch system.

I'll be honest, Mafia 2 is far from a "sh*t fest" but I will agree with those annoying mopping the floor scenes (not toilets) plus the designer trick of making players drive from one end of the city to the other, creating a cheap illusion and making the game feel longer.

The scene where your buddies are drunk and singing an Elvis song was a beautiful touch of immersion actually, I laugh every time I played it :)

In before anyone say "Blah Blah Blah Fanboy", GTA3 (2001) is a year older than the Mafia franchise (2002-2014), in short it the same age mate as Vice City (2002),So if anything R* helped (Influenced) 2k to make an Openworld Franchise, and even though V was primarily developed by the GTA Series' Creator R* North (DMA) other R* studios around the world also helped in making V a reality...Yeah R* and 2k are two Publishers (with their own studios) under Take-Two but there are independent and separate, although it will be cool to see a GTA and Mafia Crossover game :)

Side Note:The Mafia Series (2002-2014) is labelled as a "GTA Clone".

Mafia 2 gives you the option of fun driving mechanics, or dumbed down arcade driving mechanics. Mafia 2 also had proper recoil if I remember correctly. And a good storyline. And more interiors. And a more immersive world.

And what are you saying about my Q&A thread? >:0

Mafia 2 has better car physics and you can break car's engine, then you can get out the car and fix it. Also you can lost wheel rims in high speed or be busted by police at high speed or car acident. Also the city has more life than GTA V. Mafia 2 is one of my favorites because the Mafia franchise begun in Czech Republic and I am from Czech Republic. Btw first Mafia wasn't made by 2k, but by Illusion Softworks.

Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven was in development before Driver 2, even. It was the first game of this type of it's generation, but got delayed and then suffered the title "GTA clone". To this day, may I say, Mafia was also the only open world game to ever have any type of bearable storyline. In fact, it played like a movie and was rather haunting. GTA has never (and probably never will) present a storyline such as that. I love both GTA and the first Mafia to death and they differ heavily once you dissect them.

Don't even compare it to Mafia II. That has been the cash cow of 2K and the reason I will never buy any of their games again. They bullied Daniel Vavra (the writer of Mafia) out and then butchered the second game beyond belief. We called it "cut content galore" over at the 2K forums. It was the biggest gaming disappointment for me in nearly two decades of being a gamer.

I don't blame you. Biggest let down after Hitman Resolution IMO. Didn't feel like a mafia game at all!

I liked the first Mafia for the original storytelling and the gameplay. But at the same time Mafia 2 didn't seem to live up to my expectations. That being said the dlcs felt rushed and incomplete to the first game as the Jimmy dlcs and joe's adventures presented little to no story background other than stealing cars and killing gang members. Now i'm no saint myself I simply got the dlc's to get the extra clothes and cars but then again expecting some replay incentive to make up for cleaning toilets in prison. Lol

I dunno, never played the first one. The game just didn't catch me. I bought Batman at the same time and the Batman game was just way more fun.

Every Game Franchises always gets delayed (including Watch-Dogs) in fact according to Wikipedia,GTA had a 4-years Protract Development Plan from Rebranding to Bugs etc,It was supposed to be Released in 1995 with the Concept Name "Race n Chase" but was delayed and released in 1997 (Imagine That) so it was not just Mafia (2002)...and yeah i agree with all what you said btw :)

Side Note:Even though The Mafia Franchise and Vice City (both 2002) are the same agemate, although Mafia is only 2 month older than Vice City....ironically Scarface the game (2006) was called a Vice City rip-off even though VC was an influence of the 1983 movie lol.

Mafia should be taking help from movie's such as Goodfella's and making their own story out of their inspirations. When you hear the word mafia, you should instantly know what the game should be about. The f*cking mafia. The criminals in Mafia are pathetic. You need a character like Tommy (Joe Pesci) in a game like that, f*cking psychotic and a head full of rage and criminality.

True,Godfather (2006) was also a Great Game even though many critics underrated the game because it was a "GTA Clone" and was listed as a failed GTA Clone in an article i read but anyways it a great example Mafia 2 could have learned from, plus i am righ Godfather was the first game to make every NPCs have a name but now it looks like Watch-Dogs (2014-Future) will Popularise and take the feature to the next-level with the Hacking thing but anyways if there was a Mafia 3 i think it should be like the first one (which i didnt play) or be like Godfather and not like Mafia 2 cus i personally didnt like the game and it was the worst "GTA Clone" ever,I would also including Sleeping Dogs but i wont because the game (2012) was the birth of a new OWG franchise, although Both Mafia 2 and Sleeping Dogs were waste of money for me,hope SD2 or whatever it called (i think Triad Wars?) is So better than Sleeping Dogs and Mafia3 is also better than Mafia2.

Loved Mafia-I and Mafia-II. Especially in Mafia-II where you kill Tommy, the protagonist from Mafia-I. Great games, good story driven theme.

Never played Godfather, heard that was a pretty good game.

The GTA series takes things to an all new level for the type of gaming experience...love it or hate it, GTAV is the king of the hill, warts and all.

Mafia 1 is IMO the one of the best games i have ever played. When i saw mafia 2 i gave it a try. I bought it and played it. As much as i want to like it, it just gets in the way of one of the best Mafia themed games ever. Long Live Mafia 1

I hear that 2k Czech and R* were supposedly working on V together but then heard that was a rumor so I dunno anyway because they are both owned by Take Two Interactive they do share resources, info, advice and money. Guess thats why there is a little V in Mafia II and some Mafia II in V
