So what happened to the whole "pedestrians have a daily routine.&#

Because i've followed pedestrians testing this out and they simply loop back on some sort of "patrol route" they have no home to go to, no jobs etc..

More lies from Rockstar.

They did not lie. They do have routines, but obviously it's limited. They have to free up resources so they eventually reset.

They said in the mornings you'd see day laborers waiting at the bus stops and they do. In the afternoons you can see them at the factories on their break just sitting around and chatting. Then at the evenings they're back at the bus stops. You got joggers, people working out, people swimming at the beach, people going into the 24/7 shops, people browsing the clothes shops, etc.

It's not Rockstar's fault you expected some super sophisticated A.I.

What the hell were people expecting from hardware that's nearly a decade old?

Well sorry they had to free up memory in order to allocate it to the HD particles & effects... im sure if they toned down the scale of the graphics you coulda got your full ped AI routines, but you would be complaining how it looks like sh*t...

Its either one or the other... Trade offs have to be made somewhere, does the phrase equivalent exchange mean anything to you?

Its impossible to do such scripting for each and every ped on the current consoles, not to mention the capacity of blue ray, maybe in 10 ore years the games will be on a 1 terabyte unit case, until then we can just conform to the spawning system that tries to emulate what you mentioned. I also imagine howi affectthe peds family lives, imagine a game where you would kill a ped out of boredom and the next thing you see is a ceremony at the graveyard with its family members and a new grave spawning in there with an actual name... maybe in 30 more years.

exactly, even on PC its hard as hell... trust me, I actually did a very simple script for 40 different peds on a game I was working on and it was very cpu intensive... although my coding was not really optimised much with alot of "if" variables but still...

You were unrealistic if you expected anything beyond a few scripts for pedestrian activities on outdated hardware with limiting capabilities. Of course they're going to build it up and stretch it out for the previews, but anyone who has followed any games pre-release should know that every developer is going to exaggerate some. For example, Watch Dogs has already started to show cutbacks in the latest coverage compared to the early demos.

I did a script like this awhile back for SA with 20 peds. It's fun to see what you can do, but it does show you how much work it is. I was trying to make a time travel script, but it was probably the most headache inducing script I've ever created. I can't even imagine what it would take for R* to do an entire game like that.

I wonder if that cloud computing will be something we see in the future for more dynamic AI behaviors? The always online aspects would suck sometimes, but it could be interesting.

yea, cloud computing seems to be the best way to handle individual AI scripts, and Ive been thinking that if someone were to ghost a cloud computing server thats doing the AI routines and were to somehow manipulate it to where all the computing was done on a local network (Simulated Network) then it could possibly work offline aswell... although im not much of a networking guy (still in Computer Information Sciences Networking Cisco Class in college, havnt even finished it yet)

Guys, it isn't impossible. The amount of time it would've taken to code and the amount of new opcodes and flags that would need to be created would've made the game need to be delayed again.

It should be in the pc version... still, who would want to follow npcs to their work and sht, it's not that kind of game.

Yes, every single NPC should be a permanent feature in the game world. Their lives should be tracked at each moment.

But in all seriousness, why waste the computing power and pure manpower scripting these things? What would it do for any of us? We'd only maybe twice follow some poor NPC around in the world to just see where he or she goes. Most likely drives up a parkway and disappears into some house, where we can't go. But 99,99% of the time we'd still be very happy with just the situational scripting that happens throughout the gameplay, because we do other things than stalk some boring NPC.

I much rather see Rockstar use their development time doing something useful than trying to figure out how to make this suggestion work.

AI scripting is one of the hardest things, and also one of the most intensive things for a system to process. It's your fault if you expected an amazing AI like never seen before in an open-world game, in decade old hardware. Unless you wanted to play at 15 FPS.

Rockstar didn't lie, they just did their job of advertising the game, and people immediately overhyped any features they talked about.

Would be kind of cool I guess, but nothing that would enhance game play that much.

The Elder Scrolls (Skyrim too, to an extent) had all the NPC actually doing full daily routines. You could follow a ped to work in the morning, the pub later in the day, then they eventually go home to sleep! I always thought that was pretty cool. They would actually eat and drink too when they go to the pub or head home.

In any event, R* did do a good job with having the morning, afternoon and evening routines though...as stated in above posts. Traffic gets a bit crazy during rush hour as well. Get's the job done.

Rockstar lied. They've lied about this feature in the previews for every new GTA since Vice City. Every time they say it for a new game, R* knows they're lying, and I know they're lying when I read it. It's sort of like that one friend who says "I'll pay back that 20 i owe you!" and you both know it's never going to happen.

Well, a large portion of those NPCs are named, and can give missions. GTA V doesn't have that. The peds in GTA V are only there to make the world look lively, and to get run over. ;)

But it wouldn't be bad to see something like this in a future GTA, but only if R* can do it.

Dont forget;

*Beach-Goers taking their baths near the ocean

*Body-Building NPS

*Over 1000 custom animations for Peds esp.Gangs,Hobos etc

*NPCs take Bus Rides not just Train (Transit) or Taxi

*NPCs buying (looking for) things in stores.

ETC...But Great Comment Bro.

Skyrim managed to incorporate NPC's with daily routines. They would get up in the morning, go to their place of work where they would be until about 5pm, then some would head to the nearest Inn while others went home home and then did it all over again the next day.

Maybe the OP would rather play Skyrim?

After reading this I started up the game and followed a this pedestrian for over 1 hour. I can confirm that they indeed have no destination and that they dwell on the streets for all eternity. The more time passes, the bigger the lies from R* get.

The best reply in this thread. Who bumped this piece of sh*t, it was already answered.

The peds in IV were smart enough to use umbrellas when it was raining.
