Anyone Else Notice the Clunky Aiming?

Being over rank 100 now I've decided to switch to free aim. Figured that after doing the same handful of missions I need a new way to make it more challenging. But one thing that's always kept me to the assisted aiming or locked on aiming, was the clunky aiming in GTA 5.

Does anyone else notice that? It seems that the slightest movement of the sticks doesn't register in the game, which can lead to over aiming and missing your target right off the bat.

As well, would anyone like to see a persistent aiming reticle on the screen? It would certainly taking guessing out of the equation and maybe cut down on some of the clunky aiming.

Chime in with your thoughts.

Agree 100% the main reason i never bothered with FA in GTA IV or in V on consoles. Just too damn unresponsive. I will only do free aim if the game runs smoother above id say 60FPS.

Prepare for free aim elitists to come out of their caves and argue to the bone about how free aims better lol. In 3-2-1

Yup, now just wait for the Free aim superior race to come in here and say that we just suck.

I like free aim better just due to driving by people that are on the sidewalk and they just hold 2 buttons for and easy kill. What is traditional gta? If it means pvp is free aim and NPC assisted I'm gonna do that

Haha most definitely, they don't understand our point of view on how sh*t it is to free aim on a game that runs at 20-25 FPS lol

The shooting mechanics are stiff...unlike a FPS...I would advise using the AP pistol...

I played Unreal Tournament 2004 using a intel graphics card back in '05..the game ran like sh*t & had a 20-23 FPS......and you can still play & win if you know what you're doing.

You can blame the consoles....or you can improve your A game. Choice is yours.

Or i can choose to free aim on a game which runs smoothly. Times have changed since then and the fact they added AA into GTA games explains my point really. If GTA were restricted to Free Aim as the game is now i could see a lot off butthurt as a result.

However clunky it is, people prefer the challenge.

OT: Yeah, I like the idea, some changes here and there would get me to use free aim more frequently.

Free Aim is not better. It's just more of a challenge, which is perfect for those looking for that.

But I have no preference. Like I said before the only reason i'm using Free Aim now is because I want a challenge and because it's 25% more RP per missions.

The aiming in this game is not as smooth and fluid as it was in Max Payne 3 sadly... which even on consoles was extremely fun playing it on free aim

IMO the auto aim system is even junkier than free aim. Free aim just feels so much easier. There's no messing around with targeting the wrong person, and no trying to press your trigger half way in to free aim only to lock on anyway.

Basically... all the morons that think they're better because they use free aim are wrong because auto aim plain makes the game play like sh*t.

The aiming might suck but at least you get that warm inner glow of a superiority complex by using free aim.

I don't feel superior...I just feel i have more fun.

I don't see 1/9 as much as camping in FA as i do in AA. I actually see some one-man armies instead of "B" shot "A" and then "C" shot "B" while in cover, which lead to "D" getting the last kill from the cover of the bushes.

Jobs like Captures & GTA's are challenging & very fun for me in FA. You actually give a purpose to hip-shooting as a means of providing mobile cover while your teammate gets the car/bag. It doesn't 'become a who shot first' thing.

Whoring Lester also matters very little since knowing where your opponent is in FA is only 1/2 the battle. If your opponent knows how to strike you're going down regardless. I've played matches where it was one vs three and the one guy dominated us soundly with the Assault SMG. Even though i got my ass handed to me, i had a lot of fun & I know that the reason that guy won was pure skill rather than just letting the game do it for you.

That's just me though.

Killzone3265

that combined with input lagg makes free aim a bitch

though i still prefer it over being laser-cannoned out of my car just for driving within 50 meters of someone

I'm going to switch over to free aim and then stay in Solo sessions, walking around aiming my gun so that I feel superior.

OT: I have raged for years about the huge dead zone in console controllers. I assume that it is built into the controller, not determined by the game itself. Fine steering and free aiming are a joke because of the dead zone.

When you watch players drive cars in videos, you can see that they all turn the steering wheel in little bursts because it's impossible to do smooth controls. Such a shame that games with good linear physics are crippled by sh*t controllers.

i was a free aimer back in IV, i simply hated how auto aim made it all so easy...

when gtao cameout i jumped into free aim for a couple weeks before i decide to venture into auto aim.

unresponsiveness, input lag and stuff like that made it more of a hassle than fun.

from time to time i jump into free aim to sniper some people but for real action, i go back to auto aim!

Hell, even Call of Duty on consoles has Aim Assist.

Free aim is better.

Playing GTA:O on auto-aim is like playing Forza on automatic transmission.

That being said, the free aim in GTA is pretty ridiculous. I used to get VIP every game of CoD. I can barely hit the broad side of a barn in GTA though.

Another AA topic... Well I still think that AA should not work with PvP and should be only able to target cop's and NPC's.

I wish this game had aiming and strafing like Max Payne 3, I would side step like a mad man.

Yea it blows. You can't have it set right for long range sniping and close range combat at the same time. If you have it fast enough to catch the close guy running your sniper scope jumps to far too accurately aim. That's why console shooter games suck compared to computer games and why they have auto aim in the first place. You don't need auto aim with a pc.

will adjusting the sensitivity adjustments help the clunky?

Yes, but then it moves to slow to catch up to close targets. You kinda have to pick one or the other or somewhere in the middle and suck at both.
