V is the best in the series (My Review)

Story: ...but I believe it is better than...Vice City's...

I'd much rather prefer taking over a city and wiping out gangs as opposed to playing errand boy for the government.

Yep, you can count me in on that too. If not taking over the city, just some other decent story that was centered on organized crime in some way would have satisfied me.

Playing errand boy for government agents was just not my ideal theme for GTA V's story, it was the total opposite. What a terrible mess of a storyline Rockstar made. The OP's tastes in storylines leaves a lot to be desired.

There's many little things that actually would have made this game the greatest game of all time. The Muhammad Ali of GTA's. It's still one of the best games for me, but little details were missed out. Going on to big things, there's a few criminal activities, no gambling, and other things that were missed out.

But then again, games always have flaws, it's ideal to have an amazing game with flaws, and expecting another amazing game working on the missed out opportunities. Like Niko Bellic quoted, "We're all looking for that special someone", except replace the someone with "game".

Good points, however things like gambling, criminal activities and interiors should be there with the next SP DLC. Imho those additions will skyrocket the game into perfection.

Yeah once they actually implement the casino in the next or any upcoming DLC, it will push the game up as twice as big as it is now. More interiors are needed in the game, and some more interesting side missions.

Or he just likes different things than you do...?

If you're referring to me, yeah that's cool if he does like V's story so much. He's entitled to his opinion, but the thing is, so am I. My opinion is that his taste leaves a lot to be desired. Not a diss, just saying it as I see it.

I get it. V didn't live up to your expectations. I understand the contempt, I grew up with Vice City and San Andreas those were my favorite games of all time, but man V seriously blows them out of the water (to me).

V has a huge map, much more detailed than the previous games by far. I mean the previous games were A LOT less detailed, go back and play them and just look around you. I know people say V feels dead, but the previous games really do feel lifeless. There is barely any interactivity with even world objects. You can't push a goddamn chair around. Even in IV it tends to feel bland and dead sometimes.

Why V is the best out of the series.

Gameplay: Gunplay really does feel fast and fluid. For the first time in the series you can actually fire from the hip. The weapon wheel is a first in the series and it works well. Exploration is fun as the map is pretty big even if it does not vary a lot in landscape, it does have some cool things to search for like spaceship parts, letters, and mysteries that are in the game.

Graphics: Phenomenal. For the first time GTA is ahead in the graphics curve, some jaggies yeah, but the lighting is spectacular, the character models are great, and the world is the most detailed it's ever been. Graphics are great.

World: Easily the most detailed out of all the GTA games. Go back to any of them and tell me it's not. The pedestrians have the biggest variation from hipsters to rednecks to business man to workers deep in the sewers to muscle men... e.t.c you get it. There's actually people on the beach this time around enjoying the sun while the lifeguards watch. The textures in this game do repeat but it is not as worse as previous games.

Story: Not as good as IV's truthfully, but I believe it is better than San Andrea's and Vice City's because of it's originality and the fact that the missions aren't all exactly the same and keep you entertained. The heists were great.

Soundtrack: While the original score made by Rockstar was awesome and added to the overall atmosphere of the game, the radio soundtrack was lacking by far. One of the worst soundtracks in the series.

Overall: The game lacks in some points, but V is easily the best in the series to me, and it shines through on ancient hardware. In the end the GTA you like the most is a combination of nostalgia and opinion and we should all respect each others opinion.

So what you're saying is the visuals are better, the world is more detailed(visuals are better), and the combat mechanics are better?

This is why I never understand why people love it so much. All you pointed out were the aspects that are consistent amongst every new iteration. It's easy to say it's more detailed. VC was more detailed than III, SA was more detailed than VC, and IV was more detailed than SA. The combat in RDR and then MP3 guaranteed the combat would be improved in GTA V. Can one reviewer please talk about something other than the obvious?

I like GTA V, but people act like it's revolutionary, simply because it follows the same basic formula when it comes to improvements. "I couldn't believe it. I walked outside and a ped was doing yard work...THIS GAME IS AMAZING!". Five years later and you guys have your expectations met, because it looks better than the previous game?

GTA VI will be more detailed than V. Peds will do "stuff?". The combat will probably feel better/different. The driving will piss some people off. And it will be the best GTA for many of you simply because it's the newest.

No he can't. On a forum dedicated to GTA you can't love the latest one in the series without getting a lot of criticism thrown at you.

Most people these days only care about graphics. So to them V is a masterpiece. Also, most of the people who love V were too young and never experienced the III era.

If anything, you can't make a post criticizing any aspect of V without fanboys saying dumb things like this.

@BlackNoise

You're absolutely right and I'm glad it's like that

Because I enjoy every time that a new GTA comes out

Which is why I can also enjoy GTA V, but of course I want more. Bigger and prettier does make the game better to a degree, but it's extremely shallow. It's all icing, but the actual cake should be much better by now. It's a crime game, but people praise it for the most basic reasons. How were the criminal aspects improved? Or what about the economy? It's all about the all mighty dollar right? Most of us are millionaires or billionaires and we can't really feel it. It's just a number.

People think V should automatically get a better score because the visuals/details improved from the last game, but they forget how we felt when IV released(the visuals/details were vastly improved from last game). You can say GTA V looks better, and that's true, but it really just looks the way games should look at this time. The very first thing R* checks off their list is also the aspect they're best at, and too many fans just gush over it and forget about the rest of the game.

World building is what they do. We know GTA will look amazing. They need to get better at everything else. It just sucks they don't really need to, because fans are willing to kiss their feet for doing the same tricks every time.

@BlackNoise

Okay, you talked about some things that are very important, and I want to explain my way of looking at things

When Rockstar builds the game, they decide on a certain amount of thing that they will improve

they take into account business thinking, if they improve some things every few years (not too much)

they will have a lot of things they could add in the following games

and I understand that because that's how businesses work, and I can enjoy the game

Here are the good things in the game
Related to Crime

GeneralThe small details

1. Option to rob money trucks

2. Option to rob stores

3. Drug shipments

4. Manipulating the stock market

5. Protection of business by killing

6. Illegal hunting

7. Yoga :O LOL

1. improved wanted system

2. Improved cover system

3. Improved vehicle physics

4. improved gangs AI

5. Police chases are much more realistic

6. Option to choose between 3 characters

7. Crime takes place every few minutes (car/purses theft)

1. we can smoke dope

2. Active airport, Military Base, Prison

3. Living World npc's for the first time are also in isolated areas

4. More realistic nature, winds, sea, thunderstorms

5. You can see family and friends without calling them

Michael:

Family, Trevor: Ron, wade

6. Option to buy a heliport / Place in aircraft hangar
I give GTA V score of 10/10

Edited by GTA564

@GTA564

Fair enough. It does look a bit better when you put it like that. At least you go into more detail. I definitely think GTA V is a good game, but I just think it should be better by now. I still give it a 9/10, but that's not really a high score for GTA IMO.

I think V is one of those good games but what's holding it back from being my favorite GTA is it's missed opportunities and some of the annoyances within the game. It really is a good looking game and there were some features that were developed well... but it just doesn't appeal to me the way IV or VC does.

GTA 5 is definitely a good game but it missed far too many opportunities to make it the best in the series for me; just because the graphics and physics are much improved (a given with most progressing series) it doesn't make the game itself more fun!

The main issue for me is the lack of criminal activity outside of missions. Don't get me wrong tennis, golf and hunting are kind of cool but they get boring after playing a few games of them and then they rarely get touched again. I have no problem with them in the game, they only add to it, but when it seems they are there instead of activities which criminals would actually participate in (e.g. robbing, shooting, gambling, kidnapping, selling drugs, having gang wars). I hope DLC manages to provide me with more things to do along those lines besides robbing the same armoured trucks/convenience stores and randomly killing civilians/police

THIS! I mean the only minigame that involves crime are the trafficking missions (i guess you can say the street races, but the AI is braindead for tht).

GTA V is the best game in the series no doubt for me.

Its so easy to spend many hours in there, in comparison to previous games such as IV where I just stopped playing it after the story.

Also the gun mechanics are great, meaning going on ridiculous rampages is much more fun, which is what GTA is always about surely?!

The story was a let down though, IT HAD SO MUCH POTENTIAL TILL THE FIB DECIDED TO f*ck EVERYTHING UP!!

For me this is the opposite, I think the rampages iv'e had in V are some of the shortest in the series, due to the cops ability to know where your hiding almsot every time even when you've escaped the line of sight and the way the cruisers and helicopters spawn instantly and normally in the direction you are headed which is not realistic also. Although the police AI has always had problems with realisms and over intelligence in past games, their increased aggression has made it stand out for me this time around as even more frustrating than before.

Be careful saying positive things about V is forbidden on here.

We must be on different forums or something, because I see the total opposite of this. If someone were to make a post constructively criticizing V, they'd get flamed for it.

Story: better than Vice City's

You sure about that?

Vice City has one of the best storylines in the series' history!

Playing as a person is just out of jail, then proceeds to take over the city is better than playing as someone who ends up eating potato chips and ironing clothes all day.

Franklin.

I can relate to what you're on about San Andreas, but it's story is still slightly better. GTA V's story is a 6.9/10 for me.

It had potential, but then Trevor arrived in Los Santos...

Don't get me wrong. I like Trevor, but his story could have been handled a lot better.

You two need to go and pick up a dictionary to understand what the meaning of a forum is. This an open forum, not one that is exclusively open to GTA V fanatics only. If you don't wanna hear bad stuff about V then the simple solution is just not to come any public GTA forum at all. You're better off just creating your own private, members-only die-hard GTA V fanclub and talk to each other there.

Hey Guys Cmon as the title say it is his own Review

To be honest, there have been a lot of these "review topics". The staff should make a thread (and pin it) to group them, just like how the video threads are moved to the video topic, and the question threads moved to the Q&A thread, and so on.

It would be called, the "reviews topic".

I'm sure that there was one after release, but I don't know what happened to it. :/

V is not the best in the series, if you think that way, then you have lost your all so-called "GTA" senses or just have no idea about "GTA", way back when, fans had to wait impatiently on every release to have the game on day 1.

And, for what just good graphics, smooth gun play and huge map??

It's beyond these three factors, and just another part of the excitement.

Your review doesn't cover the other important aspects of playing GTA.

You know why? Because that's what missing from GTA V.

May be there's still time to see GTA V come to PC and put back some of the expectations we had, but until than, it's definitely NOT THE BEST!!

I understand this is a forum and everybody has their opinions but you can't even say you like V without having your credentials as a true GTA fan called into question. If you like V on this forum then you are called a fanboy.

I wouldn't call it the best but I think it is worthy of following all the previous games. I enjoy playing it and six months after release it is still fun to me. Everyday I play I look for another way to customize a car or some more trouble to get into. I judge everything on the enjoyability factor and V has that for me in spades. So did IV, SA, and III. If that makes me a fanboy then so be it.

I also enjoy how alive and real feeling the world is. No graphics are not everything but in an open world game I feel the world is very important. I can immerse myself and feel like I am there which is something Rockstar are great at.

What makes the world feel alive? What raises the enjoyability factor for you?

It just looks and feels real. I live by the beach and the beach in this game feels like summer in my neighborhood. Customizing cars and taking for a spin is enjoyable and so are the missions and getting into trouble. Unlike others I like the cops because I know how to easily escape them.
