TheDust
I get it. V didn't live up to your expectations. I understand the contempt, I grew up with Vice City and San Andreas those were my favorite games of all time, but man V seriously blows them out of the water (to me). V has a huge map, much more detailed than the previous games by far. I mean the previous games were A LOT less detailed, go back and play them and just look around you. I know people say V feels dead, but the previous games really do feel lifeless. There is barely any interactivity with even world objects. You can't push a goddamn chair around. Even in IV it tends to feel bland and dead sometimes. Why V is the best out of the series. Gameplay: Gunplay really does feel fast and fluid. For the first time in the series you can actually fire from the hip. The weapon wheel is a first in the series and it works well. Exploration is fun as the map is pretty big even if it does not vary a lot in landscape, it does have some cool things to search for like spaceship parts, letters, and mysteries that are in the game. Graphics: Phenomenal. For the first time GTA is ahead in the graphics curve, some jaggies yeah, but the lighting is spectacular, the character models are great, and the world is the most detailed it's ever been. Graphics are great. World: Easily the most detailed out of all the GTA games. Go back to any of them and tell me it's not. The pedestrians have the biggest variation from hipsters to rednecks to business man to workers deep in the sewers to muscle men... e.t.c you get it. There's actually people on the beach this time around enjoying the sun while the lifeguards watch. The textures in this game do repeat but it is not as worse as previous games. Story: Not as good as IV's truthfully, but I believe it is better than San Andrea's and Vice City's because of it's originality and the fact that the missions aren't all exactly the same and keep you entertained. The heists were great. Soundtrack: While the original score made by Rockstar was awesome and added to the overall atmosphere of the game, the radio soundtrack was lacking by far. One of the worst soundtracks in the series. Overall: The game lacks in some points, but V is easily the best in the series to me, and it shines through on ancient hardware. In the end the GTA you like the most is a combination of nostalgia and opinion and we should all respect each others opinion. Cyper
In my opinion gunplay feels simple, fast, and fluid, therefore, its repetetive and boring, and it offers very little challange. Streamlined and over-accessible rubbish - I would say. The horrible gunplay accompanied by the bad driving mechanics, makes the game suffer a lot, because its mainly based on shooting and driving. Along with the lack of features that exist in Singleplayer and the outright horrible AI is the nail in the coffin, and it makes the game least enjoyable since GTA 1. The AI is another huge issue, and along with the lack of features that exist in Singleplayer is the nail in the coffin, and it makes the game least enjoyable since GTA 1. I'd have to disagree with you on that one. The gunplay feels fun to me versus the earlier games where it felt like a chore to actually aim and shoot someone, the earlier aiming system was repetitive to me. The driving mechanics I enjoy because I can turn without instantly doing a barrel roll. I feel that they're improved from IV's. And the only problem I have with AI is that they call the cops if you stand close to them. Cool feature but not really needed. Singleplayer has loads of stuff to do, roleplay sometimes it's actually pretty fun dude. jondean31 1 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/699360-v-is-the-best-in-the-series-my-review/#findComment-1065133253 Share on other sites

Agreed, but that should've been expected, it's simple marketing and I think really the blame is on ourselves for letting the hype train go off the rails. Lack of interiors kinda blew, but we can interact with pedestrians for the first time since San Andreas, and the random encounters are a cool edition. It's not entirely lifeless. BUT in my personal opinion a lot of people praise it because compared to past GTA titles is on another level of reality. But lets not forget that they have been developing it some years and was expected from them to make it great. DrDetroit
I played GTAIV last night, playing as a cop on patrol-LCPDFR cop mod, I like it more for the very detailed city and far more ped variations than GTAV (PC version-modded up of course, at 1600x1200 resolution). Been playing IV for a few years now, and STILL have not seen everything in LC yet....after years of playing. The map is also the best example of a fully detailed model of NYC that has ever been produced to date. My big issue is that the GTAV peds say the same three/four lines over and over, and the same 4-5 scripted motions that are looped. GTAIV has more life, atmosphere, and authentic feel to it than GTAV, in my opinion. Far more varied peds in IV, and they spawn in appropriate areas (business people in the Stock Exchange area, party goers in SoHo waiting to get into bars, bums in back alleys)...hundreds of ped variations. Of course, this is not to say I hate or don't like GTAV...I really dig the game. Great game with lots of great innovations, good game play, graphics are awesome ect. Hope to see a lot more to come. After all GTAIV had numerous updates/bug fixes over two years or so, and a few nice large DLCs...so I'm in no way giving up on GTAV. Great game, like I said, and it will get better. FranklinDeRoosevelt
I think what really ruined the hype was the lack of interiors, I mean everyone was expecting that. EVERYONE. Another thing was heist activity in free roam, that would have been epic. Thirdly, the driving physics IMO sucks bad. It's so easy, and unrealistic, it ruined the immersion of the game. Fourthly, the forested area was empty, it would have been cool to see people camping, having fun and maybe even hunters doing their thing. There's many little things that actually would have made this game the greatest game of all time. The Muhammad Ali of GTA's. It's still one of the best games for me, but little details were missed out. Going on to big things, there's a few criminal activities, no gambling, and other things that were missed out. But then again, games always have flaws, it's ideal to have an amazing game with flaws, and expecting another amazing game working on the missed out opportunities. Like Niko Bellic quoted, "We're all looking for that special someone", except replace the someone with "game". 5.7, Gnocchi Flip Flops, jondean31 and 2 others 5 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/699360-v-is-the-best-in-the-series-my-review/#findComment-1065133792 Share on other sites

Guest
Improving things like graphics, animation and whatever is absolutely pointless when you break core gameplay mechanics like driving. I couldn't care less about gimmicky pedrestrian interaction and instant cutscenes, when the moment you step into a car the game feels like low-budget sh*te. So really, IV is the better game. Although the shooting mechanics aren't great in IV, it's nowhere near as bad as V's driving. If Rockstar could simply copy and paste IV's driving into V, then V would be better. For now, though, it's low quality sh*te. .Emmi
The story was a joke and didn't make any sense to me, FIB here, FIB there. I thought this trio would do their own business and things for the search of the almighty dollar as it was promoted, etc. but all they do is stuff for the FIB, lol they must be very scared by the FIB, pfff ... I would have written a better plot than this. Feels like they forgot about the story and wrote it within a week or so. Also driving physics are the worst I've ever experienced in a GTA game, I was excited to drive my Sanchez around the countryside in the GTA IV physics sliding through the tiny paths, etc. but I'm making turns like there's no problem at all and the body barely reacts to it, that's sth that bugs me the most about GTA V, just look at some videos on youtube (Quad driving, Sanchez, etc. you'll get the picture) Graphics are great but then on the other side the frames per second are very bad, I'm almost playing with 20fps, it never runs fluid for me and I asked R* for advice several times, nothing they said helped. Pedestrians, I can't see many on the streets and you cannot push them like in GTA IV or so, physics downgraded again. I would rather have worse graphics but better physics like I used to play with in GTA IV and RDR. That's a joke, if the car lands on top it explodes instantly, damaging system is almost not there, remember how amazing it was in IV, yes I thought it'd be like that in V too but all was downgraded by R*. Why releasing GTAV on current gen if the consoles obviously can't handle this game. And I don't wanna start to talk about this huge cut mountain from, you know from trailer 1, still makes me cry .... oh and wait no Cluckin' Bell, no Burger Shot, no hot dog stands, wait ... nah I must have missed them, wait ... another thing, one punch and peds are dead lying on the ground, must be called the dead punch in GTA V, pfff ... blub blub
Gta v is great and all but it is pretty overated and overhyped. This is why: GAMEPLAY: Now what destroys the gameplay are the terrible controls, character movement is unresponsive(the movement should be like uncharted), if you jump in to a wall you just fall on your back it is very annoying and it takes 10 years for your character to get up. Parkour sucks. I hate it when i jump from like 3 metres and my character jumps on his head that is idiotic! Atleast jump on your legs or something like in gta4. What also sucks that you cant sprint up a LITTLE HILL. When you jump out of a car you ragdoll around like a pancake. That also sucks! No ability to crouch or go prone. Hand to hand combat is ok but it is also pretty unresponsive.Gunplay is actually pretty good but without autoaim your aiming is pretty inaccurate. Autoaim destroys deathmatches in online. Cars are fine, but i hate that there is no option to let the car running. In the trailers you can see tanks and jets. But what sucks about them that there ISNT A SINGLE MISSION WHERE YOU USE THEM! Helicopters and planes handle terrible. STORY: The story is fine, but it is way too short and the mission are pretty boring for me. I mean cmon 60 percent of the game or even more is driving from point A to B. GRAPHICS: Now this is where the game shines. The graphics are phenomenal.( but graphics dont make a game good) WORLD: The world is very detailed but there just isnt much to do in it. It feels empty sometimes. SOUNDTRACK: Some songs are good but GTA 4 radio blows GTA5s out of the water. Score: I love gtas but this one was very dissapointing for me. 7.5 out of 10. shattered-minds
Graphics: I agree. Sometimes it can look a little ugly when theres a lot of jaggies on screen at a time, but its not a massive deal as its very rare. Over all the game is bright and colourful with an amazing lighting system (seriously, look at the photography threads) making the game just down right beautiful. The draw distance is something to be marvelled at, I'm still amazed when I'm stood at the top of Mt Chilliad and I can still see the IAA, FIB, The Maze Bank and Mile High Club building in the distance. I'm also amazed at how many cars I've seen on the motorways (and not all the same either). What Rockstar have managed to pull off on the aged systems is nothing short of technical witchcraft. World: To me, this has felt the most alive (followed closely by Ballad of Gay Tony). The different types of pedestrians, is staggering. From sun bathers on the beach, gang bangers in the ghettos and the rich in Vinewood hills to the Hipsters in Mirror Park and the homeless in Strawberry. Not even mentioning the types you find outside the city. Whilst the mountain ranges can feel empty when driving up them, they do add to the sense of place and create a feeling of epic scale to the map. The lack of interiors is a downside, only made frustrating by the fact that I know they are in the game, I just cant get to them outside of a mission. Gameplay: Shooting, whilst not perfect, is by far the best that has been in GTA. The animations of peds being shot has been greatly improved, they now look like theyve been shot and not just been pushed backwards. The fighting I'd say is on par with IV, less variaty in the moves than IV but the punshes feel like they connect more and feel more satisfying. I know driving physics have been a point of controversey in these forums, but I enjoy them. The car handling is not quite as finicky as IV being more forgiving and allowing for fun whilst driving. It also makes it easier to shoot and drive at the same time. Whilst not as realistic as IV, I don't think it's nearly as bad as people like to make out. Story: The biggest let down of the game. Whilst IV felt like a lovingly crafted gritty crime drama, V felt like a Michael Bay action film; it looked really nice, but was shallow and riddled with holes. They definately went for mission variety than telling a detailed story. The side characters aren't quite as memorable as previous GTAs either. Soundtrack: On the whole, average at best. There are a couple of decent radio stations that have a couple of decent songs, but on the whole, it's pretty weak. The quality in the funny chat shows has dropped too. Lazlow is no longer a funny, sarcastic presenter surounded by idiots, he's now the desperate idiot and is no where near as funny for it. I had this criticism of him in IV too. Overall: Whilst the story and the radio stations are weak, the over all fun factor has increased. My only criticism about the game in general is the game play feels more scripted and less 'free flowing' for example peds now go into a "fight mode" and change there stance, they no longer just hit you. You can't push peds over at will, you have to target and fight them, certain world events always happen after respawning. That kind of thing, like the city is programmed around you, and not just doing it's own thing. 5.7
I'm someone who hasn't been interested in the GTA games-series. Not played many the game's since f*cking around with the old GTA game on the computer and haven't really ever been into the following GTA. The GTA game-series, I do know of most them but I did not find myself interested in getting the game. I was not even interested in story, missions or whatever else, when I played the GTA game I had. (Friend lend me the game and moved away so it was how I got this disc). Which bringing me into why I was not a GTA game following fan, gamer, or anything GTA related-announced. My brother did purchase some game of the game-series, like- GTA:SA, I can't remember it that much but remember my brother playing it and I used to kick him off the Playstation and get into whatever game I wanted to play at the time. Again, my brother purchased GTA: BoGT/LOST MC - two disc pack I dunno if that was how it originally come out but I remember I had one go on game- ballad of gay Tony from a saved. It was when Luis Lopez had to gun battle in a club and hold off gang/mob people. Anyway, I was useless with control's and and was not interested in playing new file or seeing what the game was all about, nope. Years roll on, I'm Red Dead Redemption addict (still huge fan/play the game) and Mafia 2, with some other sport games. So, I'm looking on RDR forums which people had posted "GTA V been pushed back" and all this post with YouTube trailers, but I still wasn't interested or watched any. Fast forward and we at a family gathering when my cousin and brother speaking about GTA V and it's about to be released in a week or two, I said gta is same crap, shoot, drive and unrealistic mission jobs. Real negative, smartass opinions but my brother goes no look at this and showed me a trailer. My cousin and brother fill me in on what they read, seen, confirmed and unconfirmed rumors... The way these trailers impacted me, the R* confirmed for the game stuff and unconfirmed stuff people talking being in this game reminded me of Mafia 2 game hype of being able to do all these (that was off-SP story) for fun, adventures, crime spree, drug use, drink, sex, clothes, tattoo etc, I mean GTA V from my brother and cousin + what I read and they showed me got me that interested and when they told me GTA is made by the same people who made Red Dead Redemption I was f*cking ready for this game. Now, I had to go to my brothers as all pre orders + people put layaway on copies that coming in the store because they missed out on pre-ordering so I had to wait for my copy. This game, (GTA V) I finally got to have a go when I arrived home and my brother let me borrow his copy. So, I'm busting away on the game and my 3 day's off before I go on my next business trip, I'm loving the game. First thing at the time I noticed I couldn't get into any buildings but thought it would get unlocked as no clothing, tattoo or whatever else was opened yet. Noticed I couldn't play as Trevor yet either, so thought alright keep going on with story and I did just that. Funny enough I didn't do any Lester assassination mission besides the one for Franklin to move house which you have to do and I hated it I thought f*ck these side-assassin missions the sh*t ain't helpful (little did I know it's the most important part of the game after you choose option a, b or c). So, I'm playing and learning + started to search what car's are rare or anyway to get them beside's paying for them. I remember being up to the part Trevor take's over the strip club and it would been around the time I joined these forum's as most thing's I look up would link me to people's topics or post. So I also dig around find rare cars, secrets to get them, crew heist members-options-best way for cash, certain outfit clothing you could not buy, cars custom plates and whatever, I was just pumped and also annoyed that I missed out on some cars by being so far in the storyline. Still, carried on and said I would do another storyline if needed, I end game, rig the stock market get rich and repeat storyline again to get everything I missed first time around, buy clothes I only wanted and still enjoyed/enjoy the game, to a point now month's from it's release that I noticed lack of interiors, hangout options, pointless random ATM robberies, Mob's/gang's who don't offer anything for the game along with any shoutout or brawling with mob/gang members the cops come after you, police who are ranked as street patrol (one star) have a detective-to-swat style of grouping and finding your pin point location, cutscenes that have player's leaving buildings and talking to themselves and soon after if standing too long in that place ped will call police. Ped's with no personality, call cops, fight you - you fight back and the cops come for you only, no real usage for (almost) all the businesses properties that you can purchase, hairstyle's are limited or based on 'Easter eggs' from previous R* characters or film's, no jewelry purchasing other than earrings for Franklin, Tattoo pictures are very childish - why couldn't they use real tattoo design, no one own's picture/script/image or can tell you to not get it. Another thing is the game's patches I think at the current time we got 11 patches? Most-to-all of them patches are MP related, even if they free - it's still make's players who enjoy/can only play SP that patches/GTAV/R* are more concerned about the (MP - created player) who didn't spend 5 years making this game (SP actors in storyline) which is very disappointing, even if they billion or millionaires now, they basically got paid to be forgotten and left behind in GTA-R* direction of GTA-MP. I was turned onto GTA V from the hype one-two weeks before release and I admire the game, enjoy the game, rate the game high for the story (yes, I like the story. Only part that confused me is when Franklin and Michael out of nowhere turn on each other while driving if chosen option skydive into IAA building, well, conversation tension kind of popped out very random and confusing. Can't remember the fire truck option and chat but from smiles, helpful, let's do this type friends to Franklin all a sudden getting pissed off at Michael, didn't go with script for me, anyway-) and to end with what the game didn't have is real gore, brutal fight/shoot action when close or limb of body's flying and all that stuff other games from R* and other companies done, did or do in games of past-present. Along with no heist (might be coming in patch/DLC) no interiors (might be coming in patch/DLC) too much ocean and pointless ocean if you don't have dingy to eq scuba gear the submarine to eq scuba gear. Hunting is really awkward-pointless. Yoga is the most strange-queer-stupid sh*t I seen in any game to date! Music I do not mind, like band's-artist and maybe song choices from them band's-artist weren't that great I still like the song's and the one thing I say I hate is the feel you can't leave your safe house without something f*cking your day/night up. Car drivers, cop chases, Ped's calling cops, light goes green and for some reason Ped's crossing lights go green and you have to wait for them to cross (traffic light will go red on you) or hit the Ped's and if don't flee the scene you got cop's coming. So that feel of outside players safe houses is nothing to do/go enjoy (I admit that golf for me is awesome, I love playing in real life too) but I mean as in any real sport to play or watch in basketball or baseball NPC having game, No nightclubs or restaurant place's and no gambling from casino, horses or an illegal gambling den in mob/gang turf, nothing of a reputation to have good or bad, like nothing is useful outside your safe house. I enjoy the game but from what I read was confirmed, trailers I watched, rumors from fans and this massive 5 year game that's got a lot people spilt with likes/dislikes and sure might been same on other GTA or R* games when released but I read the other GTA game topic's and remember Red Dead Redemption forums it's more gamers expressing what we see in GTA V post that are game likes, car likes, questions-answers, tips and hints and we see a lot expressions on dislike not hate for GTA V but dislike or asking why R* didn't do that or this or allow this or that. Future patches/DLC might change or answer the "why" or might not answer anything. Game is a good GTA game, I got it, enjoy it but disappointed and one them "why" question asking or searching game fan. Oh and I don't care if I pay or don't for DLC, I don't think R* money hungry or if they are money hungry, welcome to the real dog eat dog world people. "Nothing is free and you got no freedom. .Emmi
I'm someone who has known about GTA games. I'm not since fooling around with a GTA game on my computer really ever been into GTA games or even purchased any. The only time I played a GTA game since my day's of f*cking around with that GTA game I had on my computer and even back in that day I was not interested in storyline or finishing the game. Which bringing me into why I was not a GTA fan, worried or even followed anything GTA related. My brother had purchased GTA:SA, I can't remember it ............ What did I just read?????? CandySuxxxMe
GTA III is the best in the series in my opinion. The reason... That's where it all began in terms of a 3D open-world allowing you to do whatever you wanted from a 3D perspective. "I got a place on the edge of the Red Light District where we can lay low, but my hands are all messed up so you better drive brother". ~8-Ball That quote never gets old! Geralt of Rivia
When you said V's story was original your whole comment went invalid. He probably meant for a GTA game, which it is, for the most part. The story was a joke and didn't make any sense to me. Are you saying that because you didn't like it, or did you legitimately not follow the story? Official General
I'ma keep this short and sweet. GTA V could have been the best in the series, it had every opportunity to claim that crown. In my honest and genuine opinion, very disappointingly it did not - not even close to it. I really expected a lot and had very high hopes for this game. Quite frankly, V will go down as one of my biggest ever disappointments in my gaming history. Zee
V is the best in the series if you were born in 2002. Tilemaxx
Technically is the best. Gameplay/story wise, that's completely subjective. blub blub 1 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/699360-v-is-the-best-in-the-series-my-review/#findComment-1065136607 Share on other sites
FranklinDeRoosevelt
V is the best in the series if you were born in 2002. That's like saying Mike Tyson was the worst boxer if you were born in the early 1990's. Tilemaxx
Good points, however things like gambling, criminal activities and interiors should be there with the next SP DLC. Imho those additions will skyrocket the game into perfection. universetwisters
Story: ...but I believe it is better than...Vice City's... I'd much rather prefer taking over a city and wiping out gangs as opposed to playing errand boy for the government.
