GTA:Online free trail/ Cop mode

Heard something like this long before GTA V was released thought it was a good idea..

 

The idea is have a download available in the game stores (ie. PlayStation store, etc.) that is a free trial to get players who haven't bought the game to experience the online aspect and gain interest. What would happen is the player logs on and they are put in random lobbies where they are not playing but are sitting in waiting screen, when in the waiting screen they can spectate and talk to other players who have bought the game or even other free trial players. When a real player (someone who bought the game) gets a wanted level the free trial players spawn as police officers in a normal police cars with only normal handguns and there mission is to kill the person with the wanted level, and if they do kill the target they get like 3 minutes to enjoy the game and drive around and have fun. But if they are further away than a mile for more than 30 seconds or let the person escape, they are kicked from that lobby and put onto a five minute wait timer for not completing the mission of killing the person.

 

What made me bring this up was an idea someone else mentioned was to allow players to be cops. Wouldn't it be cool to have a cop mode option? Where its the exact same as the free trial, but you aren't held to any restriction. You could use any police car you wanted, and you could modify it, get better guns, fly a police chopper, and earn RP and cash for completing the missions. You also wouldn't be stuck in the waiting screen because you own the game, and if you wanted you could just drive around being a dick cop and give 3 free passes to kill non wanted players before the cops turn on you. Also if the free trial thing ever happened, It wouldn't be fair for players that don't even own the game to have another game mode, especially if you payed for it and want that in the game.

 

Idk, I think it would be a fun aspect to the game, kinda like cops and robbers but just a normal session not a mission. I think it would also attract a lot of players who haven't bought the game to experience and see what they think. What do you guys think?

 

TL;DR: give free trial where the players are cops for a short time. Also add cop mode to players that own the game.

You'll have tons of people that will just play the free trial so they can be a cop. But then there's the problem of being in a lobby of 8 players, you don't always get a kill, so you'll spend like 10 minutes with no kill if no one has cops or you'll get kicked if you're driving a cop car and everyone is in a damn tuned supercar. A 5 minute timer is a long time, too, so that would turn away people. A 5 minute timer would cause people to try really hard to be good but in the end won't learn. When I play a new game, I press all the buttons, run around and see what happens when I do this or that. Being put in a lobby and be told to kill someone or you'll be kicked from this session and not play for 5 minutes doesn't seem fun.

Having an actual cop option, though, I like. As "I'm rich and snotty" as it may sound, I don't want to play a game I paid with people that got a free pass. Sure, there's some that have bought it using their parents money but having a free download just seems like a cheat. I much prefer the cop mode. I love to roleplay as a cop and I always steal the cop car at the airport (usually there's no cops there) but having your cop car have no armor means you'll have a headlight broken most of the time which sucks. You want a nice looking cop car when you're roaming around town, trying to find your friend who has his map off and player titles off so you're just a normal car if you're well hidden from him.

While some here would suggest Cops N Crooks (if it's the exactly same as GTA IV's version meaning no Lester Off The Radar), it would be a more competitive game. Cops N Crooks in GTA IV had two options:

One For All: You must survive, everyone is on their own. You die once, you die for good.
All For One: You can spawn as many times as you wish but the boss must survive. If the boss dies once, it's all over.

So if GTA V brought those two options in Cops N Crooks, it would be perfect, but everyone would know about the freemode cops mode. It would be extremely popular with bounties, too. I don't get why R* haven't made Cops N Crooks for GTA V, it was the most popular game mode for GTA IV. Went back to GTA IV, turns out I can't get into any lobby with people in them. Waited 10 minutes for a 3-player race. Then again it was on the original GTA IV. I'm hoping R* brings that mode back.

thank you for your insight full comment. I agree it could use some tweaking making the timer shorter at first then longer if the action continues. But I really wish cop mode was an option.

Great suggestion but I doubt rockstar will ever allow us to play as cops because at the end of the day GTA is kind of a ''crime simulator'' and they'd like to keep that way I guess.
