Looking back at Online character creation

Recommended Posts

My dog's excrement looks better than the POSs created in the needlesly complicated character creator<<<(er?). My characters always where sunglasses as I hate how their eyes look with their shiny faces. I hate that they are mute too. I enjoyed GTA 4 going up to randoms and spamming the talk button.

They really did f*ck up. I'm not sure who at the office said "hey, instead of letting them use sliders to make a character from scratch, or even let them chose from hundreds of npc models, let's make them choose from about 26 grandparents and make all of them look like drug addicts, then not let them choose the height or physic of the character, and then finally give them some VERY generic clothing so that everyone looks the same and not unique at all...

Man, maybe your character is generic. No facial hair and a damn white T-shirt. Come on.

I think my second character is pretty darn unique.

Yeah my dude is prettier than my girl.

Just waiting for another chance to adjust appearance like they did a few patches ago.

glitch, its prety easy

How?!

I wouldn't advise doing this, it can lead to problems with your character save on the cloud servers.

Someone else suggested deleting the game/files and re-installing them.

They reckon this will give you the option to change your character's appearance.

You would have to probably do the prologue again for story mode, and possibly online - but it might give you the option to skip this bit :0)

I hated the original start up as well.

My dad looks like a stereo typical Jew and my mum is a ginger psychopath.

So I made all the females ginger and chose all the males with big noses.

Low and behold my character looks just like me , it even came with a Californian suntan.

I made two characters that looked "good enough" but it was by far the hardest I've ever had to work at getting "good enough".

The character creation system has to be one of the most poorly designed and thought out systems in all of gaming. I honestly can't believe it would have been that hard to implement a system like saints row. It's f*cking ridiculous that I can't create a character with sandy blonde hair, blue eyes and fair skin. It's either green eyes and fair skin, or blue eyes and tan skin. Or the skin and eyes I want with a completely different facial structure from what I want. Can't even get my hair color cause it's not offered, nor a beard color that will match their "blonde" because it only comes in dark brown...

I can *almost* give a pass at having absolutely no say in what kind of body type we have as Online is clearly made up of bare bone assets from GTA V, but that is also something I find very disappointing.

Everyone is just this normal looking skinny dude with brown facial hair and the same 5 hair colors, and they're usually so embarrassed with their character that they wear a mask or sunglasses constantly.

It was very frustrating to create a new character, they didn't think about the users they went about what looked good for them, and those heritage features were annoying, most of the time they didn't made any change but anyway, they should make a new character creation system for current gen.

GTAO Character Creation System in a nutshell: http://gtaforums.com/topic/742196-is-my-female-character-really-that-ugly/?p=1066317865

I certainly hope that an updated version is introduced on November 18th, and I hope we will be able to update our existing characters too (wishful thinking).

If that came true, then I'm defenetly buying GTA again for PS4.

To summerize it. If R* wants most people to transfer to NG & PC, then they better learn from the f*ck ups and fix them.

Mine turned out fine, too many people obviously put like no sleep on their sliders

Lol your character looks like a douchebag :D

And the sliders make only minimal difference to skin texture, and wouldnt make a great deal of differemce if you could fully customize them...

Hell, even if we had different preset noc models itd be a million x better than what we have now...

The character creation is a pain in the ass, but after an hour or so of tweaking my character turned out pretty well. And I just selected the characters that I thought resembled my parents and grandparents the most.

Thats not the point. There isnt a wide veriety of clothes that dont suck, so im often times forced to wear simpler clothes so that i dont look like a bum. And i shouldnt have to wear facial hair to have a unique character. For 1, my character is black, so having brown faical hair would look ridiculous , and 2, if i was able to change the facial structure of my character, i wouldnt have to worry about looking similar to others.

So just because my character wears a white tank top and doesnt have facial hair doesnt mean i wanted him to look like everyone else. It just means i was creatively held back by the inexplicably garbage character creator...

Mine got black hair, green eyes, high cheekbones and a devilish look.

Btw, have you noticed that at least female characters comes in different heights?

Maybe its because I've hated gta online since its come out, but what the f*** was rockstar thinking when they designed the creation categories? I know most people have different opinions but I think we all agree that it's design needs a rehaul.

I'm no expert on game design at all, but retrospectively, I think it's because the game was already too big to allow for more dynamic characters.

In other words, either the engine or the servers couldn't handle more detailed character creation like that of Saints Row or other highly customizable games.

Having said that, I love the look of my character.

Because if you wear heels with a female character she becomes taller than male characters, and females without heels. I have heels on my female 95% of the time.

It seems my favorite game series never can get females right, like Mortal Kombat giving the females man-faces. GTAO's character creator isn't going to change with next gen, and even so, I doubt their figures will change. I'd pay real money for my female character to get a decent-looking body, not even asking for ridiculous things like a DD chest, I just want her to not look so goddamn butch. The shoulders on female characters are absolutely ridiculous.
