Why can't i permanently wear my parachute?

Was changing my dudes clothes today, decided to try and be different by wearing the backpack parachute (press back and go to inventory to find it) however it disappears once you die. Is there really a reason why i can't just wear it?

This is one of those glitches that doesn't affect Shark Cards.... so R* pays no attention to it, even though it's been a DAY 1 glitch.
