Why is 7th gear almost non-existent?

This has really started to bug me lately. I've been messing around with the Adder and Entity and noticed that with both of them, as soon as you shift into 7th you redline almost instantly. This should be the point where the car shows its true power and raw speed, but its such an anticlimax.

I wonder why this is? I mean I get the rendering thing, but I just feel like these cars are nowhere near fast enough. Its not like it'll make them hard to race with either, because you rarely even get into 7th gear on most tracks.

7Th gear? There really is no gear all the cars are automatic so thinking about the gears doesnt matter its not a racing game and you must mean that you cant reach the top speed.

7th gear in most applications is considered a cruising gear..one that doesn't hold a whole lot of power but can keep speed.

Top speed however, any speed I would say solidly over 150mph...you have to be really lucky to attain as the game loses too many frames going that fast.

Cars can only go so fast in this game. you also need to think about what you're doing on the other's screen. you would skip on their map if you went super turbo .

I don't know if there is any real gearing in the game, quite often at high speed in my entity it will make the noise of shifting gears but just stay at the same rpm.

Also the rendering limits everything, the jet is actually barely faster than the buzzard or supercars, even though it should be several times faster.

not even that, you'd be lucky if the game doesn't start slouching behind and re-rendering sh*t around you

my game can't seem to keep up with me when going that fast.

7 gears? I've yet to drive a car with 6 gears in real life, let alone see a car with 7 gears.
Why are there so many damn gears?

Ironically my top speed was attained with a stock Inferno... we did some wicked things with a Cargobob and i ended catapulted towards the sky at 157mph....

More on topic, im sure physics would also start behaving odd if we go faster than what we currently can, as it seems GTA V uses no interpolation or extrapolation while handling physics.... Theres too many things this game doesnt do...

I've never really noticed it to be honest. I mean occasionally a road sign or something will spawn late, or rarely the buildings haven't fully texturized, but nothing too serious.

I think they could boost super cars a tiny bit, and nerf sports a tiny bit (instead of just making supers stupidly fast), just to get that bigger speed difference that should be there.

In game, the gear sounds to be revving high but really it should be low. I think because they have limited the top speed, they did it by lowering the top gears ratio so instead of been a long gear with no power, it's a very short gear with no power.

The new Corvette has 7 gear manual transmission. Get your facts straight, bloody americans. And it's NOT overdrive.

Also new BMWs, Audis and Mercedes all have 8 or more speed Automatic Gearboxes.

They're super cars, most have 7 gears in real life and if you drive down a long road in the game and count the gears, there's definitely 7, but 7th is extremely short.

Thanks for your input that has absolutely nothing to do with the game, Dumbass.

GTA cars aren't real cars, the maximum number of forward gears in-game is six. This number is shared by lots of vehicles but is not as common as five gears.

The gears also don't work like real gears. For one thing you can't manually shift.

OP is probably encountering catchup / catchup bug.

You can't hit those speeds on these consoles because they can't keep up fully rendering everything at your top speeds.
The price for being on 7th gen.
Maybe PC will break speed limits (well, modding the handling.dat most certainly will in any case).

Whats with Euros and their obsession with dissing murica :panic: ?

Besides why stop there, the new Acura has a 9 speed, oh heck Semis have 18 gear.

Anyways op this is a sandbox game for you not a driving sim sadly.

Most are all cars have 6 gears or less. There are some IRL cars with 7-8 gears that are in this game. Oh well.

My IRL car only has 3 and an OD so I'm not complaining about the lack of gears in this game

I wish they were. It would be better than what the sport has become. In 20 years (that I can remember - it's probably nearer 30 seeing as my Dad watches it) this is the first season I am struggling to be interested enough to watch, but I digress from the thread.
