I was playing San Andreas Multiplayer again the other night and I was wondering what the general consensus is on whether or not people preferred it over GTA Online. To be more specific I was wondering about if people have more fun playing it as opposed to playing GTA Online.I am not asking from a graphics or technological standpoint just straight up how much fun you have playing either.

I have been playing SAMP pretty much from the beginning and I still have a blast playing it,I enjoyed playing GTA online and it was awesome however once everything was bought and done it got pretty stale for me pretty fast.

SAMP was more enjoyable for me, although I'm not a big fan of online gaming. I remember running from cops (cuz you could be a cop if you wanted) doing circles on the Julius Thruway, and I'd suddenly take an exit and dumber folk would get bewildered. But there was one cop who chased me all the way to Los Santos. Good fun.

SA:MP is a mod so there is infinite content and anything possible, so of course it's better.

I think I'm looking at SAMP through rose tinted glasses but I remember having a f*ck load of fun playing it, especially with servers running 100 players simultaneously.

I don't know why but I can't really compare GTAO and SAMP because they're objectively very different experiences and had different goals.

SAMP focused heavily on objective based gameplay and scenarios whereas GTAO attempts to give the player the feeling of persistence and ownership.

I vote SAMP, if only for the nostalgia.

There were SA:MP servers that offered that kind of experience though, as well as the more hardcore RP ones.

SA:MP was an absolute blast. The pure fact you didn't have to worry about getting a wanted level made it amazing.

GTA Online simply cannot compare in my eyes. I do miss SA:MP :(

Cheers!

IVs Multiplayer.

GTFO

You should watch your mouth, kid. No reason to be mad because someone has a different opinion.

If someone should "get the f*ck out", it would be you. 2014... lol.

No, kid, because this thread has absolutely nothing to do with GTA IV. Note: SAMP and GTA Online. There's already topics for you to profess your love of IV, ergo GTFO or post something on topic.

It was SA mp - however in around 8 weeks, Watch_Dogs will probably trounce everything that's gone before....

Eh, from what I gather it's a different MP experience Gonna be a good one, but it provides a different gameplay style. It won't have the vast feeling of GTA and will be lacking the entire vehicle part.

There is almost no comparison. San Andreas had WAY more going on in any one server. 16 players just doesn't feel like enough in Online.

I love Just Cause 2's multiplayer mod on PC and JC2 is like... $5 on steam. I've seen as many as 200 people in one area. Not even sure how many were on the server. It was the most hilarious mayhem EVER! The map is so huge and the altitudes are magnificent.

Honestly, Rockstar is making a huge mistake by releasing Online when they did. I'd rather have waited another year for GTA 5 altogether, "next gen" only, 24/32 players online... the possibilities.

SA-MP definitely. I had amazing times on some of the roleplay servers. Imagine 500+ people online at once with all kinds of chaos happening. Police chasing criminals, shootouts between gangs, people racing through the streets, people doing legit jobs(like trucking, lawyer and detective) while others are doing illegal jobs(drug dealing, weapon making and selling). Not to mention the various underhand scamming and trolling tactics people played on each other to get money, goods and other objects.

Derp. Ever hear of a thing called Ventrilo or Teamspeak?

Hard to say because I didn't play much of SAMP back in the days, the most I've done was play in a Demolition Derby that was big back then, I was never into the whole "Role Playing" scene but I did join plenty of stunt servers and free roam with others, definitely was fun.. especially when it was with hundreds or dozens of other players.

Even though I consider GTA V to be a terrible game in my opinion, especially Online which feels very restricted compared to GTA IV's multiplayer, it had a few great features that make these comparisons hard to judge, such as the very few jobs that are actually fun to play with friends, Golf and a few more.

I'd have to say SAMP takes my vote just for the amount of things you can accomplish with 90+ other friends (especially when it's private events) and their stunt servers that you can probably spend at least 2 hours on.

Both have their ups and downs...

SA-MP

----------

1. Has more open player slots

2. Useful for Deep Roleplay

3. User Friendly Coding

4. Has Audio Plugin (To Change Audio)

5. Completely open to modders

6. Has Potential to expand

GTA:O

-----------

1. Native Voice Chat

2. Does not require extensive modding

3. Rockstar Social Club Support

4. Solid DMing (No Lag Shooting, etc)

5. Persistant World with NPC's

6. Has Potential to expand

SA: MP and MTA for GTAIII and VC blow away GTA Online. I think it's really quite sad that unpaid fans made a better version of multiplayer years before r* could even conceive an attempt at mutliplayer.
