Other than graphics what truly next gen things do you want to see this gen?

I'm kinda interested in the Nemesis System in Shadow of Mordor.

Is that actually next gen?

I don't really understand this whole next gen thing. I always assumed it's only used to refer to new products in a series like consoles, video cards, processors, and RAM, etc.

Your question is the same as mine. What exactly is next gen? Because it doesn't seem a lot of people share my opinion on what a next generation is.

Well speaking in terms of something new, I consider the Xbox One more next gen than the PS4. Now, they're both great machines, but in sense of what the console does it isn't exactly new. I'll give the downloading in the BG, but the Xbox One has the motion controls, the voice commands, and the snapping of apps etc.

-Large multiplayer servers. 100+ players.

-Improved sync and physics in multiplayer games.

-Soft-body damage physics (Some PC games already have this).

-4k (Some people may laugh at this one and say the consoles can barely handle 720 & 1080p. Well I think by the middle of this gen we will see 4k games running at 30 fps, because developers will learn how to develop their games efficiently to work on both Xbox One & PS4. For example look at last gen and how much the games improved over time.)

-Dynamic weather system that can effect the game world in many different ways.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I hope to see all the things listed above and much more happen over the course of this console generation.

There's no way we're getting games running at 4K this gen.

I mean something that couldn't be done on last gen consoles because it would melt them. Think human like Ai in a large complex open world game.

I'm not going to deem any console "next-gen" until they're capable of 4K resolution.

I want loading times to be non existant. For example, I had a 15 minute loading screen on skyrim on 360 that I had to just turn my console off because of how bored I got. On PC the loading is almost non existant, they don't even include loading screen images, it is just a black screen with a custom loading icon and that is it. Done.

I hope for more of stuff like that as well as 64 players on almost any large scale multiplayer game, or even more. But at the same time the right balance to stop players lagging out or getting desync or the imput lag affecting their gameplay. I think fast paced shooters get it the worst, so if we can get the speed toned down and stop making crap like titanfall we should be alright on that aspect.

We aren't going to get anywhere with day 1 downloads unless all games are allowed to be pre downloaded and installed before release. Along with this I hope file sizes get compressed enough so that every game isn't a f*cking 46gig download. Skyrim did that great, managing to get that entire world into 3-4gigs, that is a f*cking feat and a half. I still don't know how that game is that small.

1080p 60fps, no exceptions, if we can't even meet this with next gen, we may as well have not even got the next gen consoles yet. That should at least be the baseline. I couldn't give two sh*ts about 4k or 120fps, I just want what PC had f*cking years ago at the very least.

It is those little things that you might not think about, that make a next gen console what it is.

Misbegotten cad

Other than graphics???

well, I would like to see realistic female AI characters.

Today, female NPCs behave just like men, which is unrealistic.

real females behave chaotically, and you never know ho they react and what they will say next. So, more realistic female AI is really needed in games, especially as games today have much more females in them.

GTA did pretty good job on this, as females in the game are pretty convincing...

Other than graphics (which I don't really have high expectations for), all I want to be significantly improved over the last generation, is AI. To be honest, I became gradually bored interacting with scripted dolls which lack any kind of unpredictableness or realism in behavior. Advanced AI would definitely add a lot to the believableness of the world, intensifying the gameplay (especially in the stealth genre), making it simply more interesting.

Oh, and anyone who expects the new consoles to achieve 4K sometime along the line? Well, I suggest you should get out of your dream world. Besides, who needs that? 1080p is perfectly fine. There's no need anymore for anything higher.

People, you don't even know how hard it is to make decent AI, thats not stupid. If there would be a real next gen AI, then it would need sh*t ton of scripts, animations, and sound effects.

Let's forget about graphics, damnit.

Look at a game like, say Saints Row. The first one. Clean visuals, had its own style.

Now let's take these graphics, put them on a next gen console.

Let's not bother with fancy lighting and anti aliasing and screen space ambient occlusion or any of that pointless sh*te. Up the draw distance, and focus on displaying sh*tloads of peds and cars, with 100+ player multiplayer.

THAT is what we need.

Yeah games need to stop with the filters and dirt, water and blood on screen, and just make things clear. There is nothing better than the feeling of a good game from before 2007, everything seemed so clear and easy to see. I loved that.

I also think we can do better than 3 vehicles on screen in GTA, I mean it can't be that f*cking difficult, as Lazyboy said already. Even Hitman Blood Money has a way to have hundreds of peds on the street at one time. Surely they can do that in more games on a more condensed scale from inner cities. As well as having certain traffic only in certain areas, based off what time of day it is as well.

Though new game engines are what I am after, with objects interacting with eachother, and many different materials having their own damage factors on AI as well as their own penetration levels with bullets. And on top of that bullets having a physical presence in the world, using it more as throwing an object to kill, rather than a laser system and a timer. That way, people can't get shot at long ranges even if they get behind a wall in time, they wont die like they do now.

Mister Pink

In a couple of generations down the line, I'd love to see completely destructible environments with realistic in-game refurbishment.

Say GTA 10 went back to Liberty City and you decide to blow the sh*t out of all the buildings. The city would be in a state of emergency and constantly being patrolled by military with fighter jets circling the sky. That's an extreme example... eventually the city will be rebuilt and a workaround for missions would be that if you cause too much damage you'll have to go back to a last save when all the buildings weren't so f*cked. But.. say you had a shootout in a neighborhood and some stray RPG's went and blew a few houses up... they'd be destroyed for a couple of in-game months. Just a thought..

Also, thinking about GTA again... When you kill some people, I'd like to see forensics and a crime scene for a while and not just turn around and the bodies are magically gone. :D

Yeah I would like destructible environments. a superhero game where you have to save a city from being destroyed and you can fly around smashing through buildings and stuff would be pretty cool.

Games. Games. Games.

The PS4 has the best lineup of games coming up. The Order 1886 is a next gen game, inFamous: Second Son, Uncharted 4, Deep Down, a future God of War and SO many more.

i swear to you only thing i want from next gen is 7-8 different car models spawning at the same time in the same frame, IN GTA GAMES. especially places like inside multi store car parks always looked ridiculous since gta iii... very few cars, maximum 2 or 3 different models... i hope this changes when they make a gta for ps4 and xbox one.

Next-gen in terms of console gaming is for me when console games are close to PC games, e.g. huge graphical upgrades, higher resolutions, better framerates, improved artificial intelligence, and the like. So, PC is next-gen by that logic and so are the consoles up to the point where the differences to PC are becoming substantial again. The PS4 is easily better than the Xbox One, in my opinion, because not only is it the cheaper system but RAM and GPU are considerably better.

Most multi-platform games run smoother on the PlayStation and on a higher resolution (mostly PS4 @ 1080p and Xbone @ 900p from what I've noticed). I have no doubt that the differences will be even more noticeable in a few years' time. The PS4 is going to be my choice for that reason.

I want to see more diversity, more life, more things to do and more attention to detail in future games. Games need to evolve to not get repetitive over time. I also want that certain developers stop to annualise and to milk their popular videogame franchises. Sure, a yearly release doesn't necessarily equal milking, but it happened with a lot of game series the last few years. I wouldn't mind if there is a sequel only every three to five years, as long as it's a high quality product that I can play endlessly for years to come.

I think because games cost a lot more to make now developers will take less risks and keep making the same type of games. I don't like that a lot of games now are more like interactive movies where you just play to get to the next cutscene. The game i'm looking forward to the most on next gen is sunset overdrive, It's visually my favourite upcoming game, and the gameplay seems to be the funnest for me. I don't give a hoot about about the most realistic graphics and sh*tty f*cking facial capture sh*t, gta v level graphics are good enough for me, I'd prefer a good artstyle.
