Ollie Olly Oxen Free! Apartment Etiquette Thread™

Recommended Posts

If your going to revert back to the luxury of your sweet, sweet crib, then do the Free Roamers in your session a favor and host an Apartment Invite, aka "call ollie-ollie-oxen-free." It allows those people stuck in distant places or precarious positions an opportunity to wash away their troubles and just port back, close to home.

I like checking other people's cribs out mainly for their garages myself. Interesting to see the different tastes and preferences in people's choices of cars.

until i can't get killed in the garage there's no way I'm accepting any invite.

but the sentiment is nice.

Passive mode will help with that. I understand your annoyance. I've already been killed by two different alt account cowards in my garage.

air thrusts are the greeting of choice when i'm in someone else's home.

This is why I got grounded in fifth grade, turns out air thrusts are frowned upon especially when around your friends mother.

Post edited. Got liked. Bump'd. ;)

Can you do that, or is it considered double posting? I edited one of my threads, and got a ton of likes, so I hesitated on bumping it cuz they just banned me for 2 days for double posting

I will bump and like just because it reminds me of childhood and your avatar reminds me of Barney Miller. HAHA.

On topic, I have done this but now you have to beware if you go in someones garage. Got killed that way for the first time yesterday. I then invited a friend and we went passive and kept pushing him around garage as he tried to crouch in corner, we kept sending not so nice messages about being a loser and fake K/D blah, blah. Put a bounty on and he left....

edit. didnt see stonedpimp but still true story. :)

accepting an garage invite will not spawn you in theyre respective garage... but in the apartment itself so that means you have a change of getting out before the church starts singing

Ollie Ollie Oxen Free does not apply to apartments. It is a call sign of a Spartan in danger, injured, or in need of extraction.

Trying to work out how this relates to the popular catchphrase used in children's games and drawing blanks here.

I use it to teleport back to the city sometimes.

Question??

Can you invite people to your garage? Like a 10 car lockup? I don't remember if that was possible.

Why do I need to say "call ollie-ollie-oxen-free" and not just do a normal invite (not that I would - keep the peasents on the streets where they belong so I can look down on them)?

I got an invite to an apartment once (while in my own apt), and the guy that invited me was trying to snipe me when I went into my garage. But I do take the invites when I am up north.

Eh, apartment invites are only useful for free lapdances and weed.

And drinking my pisswasser's and dropping the bottles all over the apt and on the Cheetah in the garage.. :p

Sometimes I put a lampshade on my head for sh!ts and giggles.. :)

Talking of apartment etiquette, people should be f*cking banned for changing the radio station in my apartment! Seriously.

Dear ICTC, you seem down on off-beat topics lately, especially since my "momz" comment.

The term, "Ollie Ollie Oxen Free" was used centuries ago, when at the end of the work day when the farmers would unhinge their field oxen from its yoke, signifying to the children that the work day was done and they were allowed to play in the field. Children would gather, shouting, "ALL YE, ALL YE, OXEN FREE! OXEN FREE!" and hence, the catchphrase was borne.

Nowadays, kids still use a variation of the phrase when playing tag, to symbolize that during games like tag, it's safe to come out.

In GTAO, my reference simply and humorously (in effort, anyway) was pointing to the "game" we all play and that sending out an invite was, more or less, an opportunity to come back to home base, safely (in Passive Mode, typically), if you were stranded far away.

I hope that helps draw a relative connection for you.

As for you "drawing blanks," you might want to see a specialist about that. Cheers! ;)

I don't accept any apartment invites because I'd rather not look at chrome, or neon-colored garages.

I think he means just accept the apartment invite to teleport back into the city. Then just walk out the door and leave. You don't have to go into the garage last time I checked no matter what you spawned in the apartment near the door. Although it may of changed haven't accepted an apartment invite in a while.

Exactly! I know this is an old thread, but someone asked the question about apartment invites, elsewhere, and even now, whenever I go to my yacht or apartment, I do an "invite callout" to the whole lobby, in case anyone wants to get back to the city.

There's always a few people who accept, especially on the yacht. And whenever I'm too far away, I almost always accept the invite just to save myself the headache of driving a stolen Futo all the way back to LS. :)
