Need help with letter scraps not appearing

Anywhere I've read has said you can collect the letter scraps any time you want during the game, unlike the spaceship parts. I own the strategy guide, and I've went to the spot of three different ones now, and none of them were there.

Anyone else have this problem? Do I need to do something else to activate them before I can start collecting? Or is my game just faulty in this area?

 

I'm at 79% of game (all missions, spaceships, etc.)

Some of them are very hard to find:

 

- one in the desert construction site is down a well

- one on top of the freakingly tall crane is in a separate level above the catwalk

- the one in the airport is between two levels

 

I know there are a few others. Chop is pretty useful but sometimes you just need to look at where he's barking. Sure, it looks like he's barking at a wall, but where's his nose pointing?

Have you tried going to the location as a different character?

 

If that doesn't work you may have a corrupted save so you will need to reload a previous save from a different save slot.

I have found zero letter scrap. =(

 

My previous save is nearly 64% and i can't find any either.

 

I've tried:

 

- different characters

- reload previous saves

- did some missions to get gold and return the locations

- about 10 different scrap latter locations

- Collected spaceship and submarine parts, etc

 

I really want to reach 100% but I don't want to start all over again.

Do the first Strangers & Freaks mission for Tonya called "Pulling Favors" At some point during this mission, you should hear a news report on the radio mentioning the Leonora Johnson case.

 

Apparently the scraps don't all appear until after the news report.

I already did this mission 5 times and nothing happened. Do you know which station radio?

The news is the same for all stations that have news reports, maybe go for a long drive and listen to any radio station that has news bulletins....

As said in a previous reply, the scraps can be hard to find. Use the Interactive Map to help you find them and if you're having a lot of trouble then check out a YouTube video. There's a lot of videos that will help you find the letter scraps a lot easier than if you was to just go to each location and look around.

 

I used Trevor to find the letter scraps because I found it easier to get a helicopter with him. It doesn't matter which character you use to find collectibles; you can even find the Epsilon Tracts as any of the three protagonists. Once you find the letter scraps the Strangers & Freaks mission that's unlocked can only be triggered when playing as Franklin, though, regardless of which character you use to find all of the letter scraps with.

I'm using interactive map, youtube videos, social club map, etc. The problem is I can't find any of scrap letters.. I Know the places, but the letters aren't there.

And About the radio station, I stayed at least 20 minutes in the mission Pulling Favors and didn't listen the news about Leonora.

Any Ideas?

Have a look at these two threads. These are about Strangers and Freaks blips not appearing but the philosophy is the same for the Letter Scraps.

 

Sometimes the game sticks so you have to do lots of free roam activities, including quick saving and reloading, this seems to 'exercise' the game engine so it starts working normally.

Thank you guys for the tips, but not working yet.

 

I did 4 different story missions, 3 strange and freaks missions to get gold and some random activities, but nothing of letter scraps.

 

I tried make a new save in different storage device, force death by cops, sleeping in house for save and change the time, switch characters, stayed in the truck in "Pulling favors" for 5 minutes each run hoping hear the news about Leonora in radio, etc.

 

I think we're running out of possible solutions?

First of all, sorry for the grammatical errors down here, english is not my mother language.

 

The problem with the letter scraps is that you have one shot to trigger them.

 

You can't simply restart the "Pulling Favors" side mission, because the news report triggers after completing it. And since you already did that, the only thing you can do is restarting the game.

 

There's no other way, i got screwed by it so make sure you don't touch the radio once completed it.
