Are all Postmen as ignorant as the ones in the UK?

Sloppy, rude, moody, wearing only half of their uniform, scruffy and displaying an attitude whereby they really couldn't give a f*ck about their work.

 

Not sure at what point front-end service all fell apart for Royal Mail, but I'm less than satisfied with it.

 

Are there similarities for other countries I wonder?

I've never thought that the Post Office delivery staff are that bad. Their customer service staff in branches are universally awful though. It's like they were trained in sales demeanour by Harold Shipman.

 

Oh, and Yodel are the worst delivery service in the world by a country mile. They make Parcelfarce look positively competent.

I run a Mail Order business and work with Royal Mail on a daily basis and find them generally polite and efficient.

 

If you do have a problem with Royal Mail staff there is an online form that you can use to seek a solution to the situation.

In certain neighborhoods around here the postperson walks door to door. I'm not quite sure why, but I always thought it looked kind of difficult, especially in the summer when it's usually over 100 F out.

 

I don't really bother mine though. There were wasps in my mailbox once, and the mailperson still delivered mail despite them, so I'd say they're at least competent in my area.

Agreed. I didn't realise this was commonplace up and down the country. The staff at two of the local branches I use, more often than not have such a miserable and rude conduct it always brings me glee whenever I have something large and heavy to give them. Maybe it's all those giro cheques they have to cash.

Our postman is awesome.

 

He fakes our signature and drops off the packages under the garage instead of waking us up at 10:00 AM or making us go to a post office in the afternoon to sign for it.

Same in the states - that's what happens when you get bureaucratic low level government employees that get a steady paycheck and strong job security.

 

They're often worse in the planning department. They have no accountability so it's not like they give a sh*t, but you still need to have them stamp your construction drawings for you or else the entire project gets put on hold.

 

That said, the clerks at my local post office are pretty friendly though, and the postal carriers are great.

I've had far worse experiences with courier companies, too be honest. Having to deal with the fallout from their below par services isn't fun.

Exactly. If they can't get excited and enthusiastic about getting up whilst it's still dark, and then trudging for miles with a heavy bag in all kinds of weather, then they shouldn't be in the job. Their attitude f*cking stinks quite frankly. We as tax payers pay their wages, they're basically our slaves. Pep up slave. I'm rarely in a good mood in the morning, but you have to be because you touch my sh*t for about 5 seconds. I don't want your bad vibes coming through the letter box and infecting me.

I honestly can't remember the last time I've seen a postman anywhere. But we get our mail, so I guess they exist.

 

I collect most of my mail at the post office though, and the clerks are actually ok (if they're not on strike).

If you had to deliver mail in a Suburban neighborhood with 100+ yards between boxes wouldn't you think it would be quicker and more efficient to just stay in your truck (which is specifically designed for that purpose) as opposed to parking at the entrance to the neighborhood and wasting a sh*tload of time walking to each house only to walk back to your truck at the end of it?

It was a joke, which I thought was funny because I was picturing an inner city environment like the one I live in. Believe it or not, I have no strong opinion on methods of postal delivery and how it reflects on the employee's character.

Yeah for doing such an under appreciated commonly sh*t on job they do remain pretty friendly and professional. I think people in the UK are just angry and pissy in general at least that's what it seems like here. And the postmen are just reflective of the larger society
