A friend and I noticed something just down the beach a couple days ago that we swear wasn't there before...there is a wall with a bunch of graffiti on it and even the tree trunks have paint sprayed on them.

Here's a picture I took of the real statue at Venice Beach. I'm guessing maybe someone had a hissy fit about it in the game and forced them to change/remove it. Just a theory.
