Hey STRR what's up.

 

Tried the time trial earlier today and I'm starting to like it but I agree a bit about the solid wheels (what's it called) being slightly out of place for the flow.

I made it into 3rd division for now but I'm positive I'll do better on this track than the sentinel. (no offence Matt, was just too hard for me lol)

 

What happened with recruitment today? Sorry wasn't there, was busy with RL stuff...

Did anyone host? If not, I can do it some day this week.

Just a short question, for the trial, do we use the regular jester or the racecar version? Because from what I know, the Jester with the racecar livery actually has tweaked acceleration, so it's slightly faster than the regular one.

I use my smartphone to put pictures on instagram.

First, I copy the pictures to my smartphone.

And then I edit the photos with the "Photo Grid" app. (the pictures are usually too big to post on instagram)

Then I upload the pictures to my instagram page with the "Photo Grid" app.

I was doing some research into car colors, looking for inspiration to pick colors for certain cars based on some historical context, whether of the car itself, or the manufacturer, or the country the car is from. (By this, I am referring to the chief real-world inspiration for a GTA-world car.)

 

I came across some interesting information on international racing colors, and decided to share that info here. I hope some of you will find it interesting. Maybe many of you already know all this and I'm just being redundant, if so please forgive me.

 

In early racing history, before corporate sponsorship, a color was used to identify the color being represented by the car or driver. Here's a quote from Wikipedia:

The colours have their origin in the national teams competing in the Gordon Bennett Cup, which was held annually in 1900-1905. Count Eliot Zborowski, father of inter-war racing legend Louis Zborowski, suggested that each national entrant be allotted a different colour. The first competition in 1900 assigned: Blue to France, Yellow to Belgium, White to Germany and Red to the USA. (Italy did not adopt its famous 'Racing Red' until a red Itala won the Peking to Paris race in 1907).

 

When Britain first competed in 1902, it had to choose a different colour from her national colours of red, white and blue, as these had already been allocated. Selwyn Edge's winning Napier of 1902 was painted olive green, and green was well-established as an appropriate colour for locomotives and machinery, in which Britain had led the world during the previous century. When Britain hosted the 1903 Gordon Bennett Cup the following year on a closed course at Athy in Ireland, the British adopted Shamrock green which later evolved into various shades of 'British racing green'.

There is apparently some debate over the exact color of British Racing Green, but Wikipedia defines it as RGB 1,66,37, or hex #014225.

 

Today, people might assume that silver, not white, is Germany's international racing color. Silver is still used by Mercedes and Audi, although BMW uses white. Here's an explanation on that, also from Wikipedia.

In the 1930s the Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union [the forerunner of Audi] teams did not apply the traditional German white paint, and their bare sheets of metal gave rise to the term Silver Arrows. A myth developed in the 1930s that the German teams did not apply white paint owing to the need to be under the 750 kg maximum weight limit; however the first "Silver Arrows" raced in 1932, before the weight limit was imposed in 1934. Modern monocoque aircraft fuselage construction was already using polished and unpainted aluminium panels at this period, and the wealthy motor-racing fraternity would also have been aware that in Heraldry, White and Silver are the same colour or 'tincture', described as 'Argent'.

Italy's "racing red", or "rosso corsa" in Italian, is officially defined as RGB 204,0,0, or by the hex triplet #CC0000. In later times, Ferrari used a color they called "Rosso Corsa", which was slightly brighter at #D40000. This is not the same color as "Ferrari Red", which may have originated from Rosso Corsa, but has changed several times over the years, each time picking up a slightly more orange tinge. Today, Ferrari Red is #FF2800, which has a distinct orange tinge.

 

France used "Bleu de France" as their color. Bleu de France's RGB is 49,140,231, and the hex is #318CE7. This is distinct from French Blue (0,114,187, or #0072BB). If one thinks of an early bright light blue Bugatti, that's Bleu de France. Again, from Wikipedia:

Bleu de France (Blue of France) is a colour traditionally used to represent France. Blue has been used in the heraldry of the French monarchy since at least the 12th century, with the golden fleurs-de-lis of the kings always set on a blue (heraldic "azure") background. A brighter version, based on the blue of the French Tricolour, is used in modern times, particularly in a sporting context. French national teams in all sports will normally use blue as their main colour.

 

Blue is France's national racing colour, therefore several French motorsport teams have used it, including Alpine, Amilcar, Ballot, Bugatti, Delage, Delahaye, Gordini, Ligier, Mathis, Matra, Panhard, Pescarolo Sport, Prost Grand Prix, Rondeau, Salmson, Talbot-Lago, Voisin. The two notable exceptions are Citroënand Renault: the former has used red and white, whereas the latter has used yellow and black.

Since there are several members from the Netherlands, I'll add a note about that nation's racing color. Although not one of the originally assigned international racing colors (see first Wikipedia quote above), orange has either been assigned to, or adopted by, the Netherlands as their racing color. I have not been able to find information on the exact shade of orange, but I have found reference to a "Dutch Orange" with a hex color code of #FF4F00 (equates to RGB of 255,79,0).

(I know I sound like a broken record, always whining about how I need more garage space every chance I get...but it's true! At last count, there are 113 cars I'd like to store! Some in my list are duplicates, like a racing version of some cars with crew colors, offroad tires, no BP tires, and light on armor, as well as "street" versions of the same cars with paint, full armor, and cooler wheels.)

If people are getting a bit bored of GTA is it worth trying to build something a bit bigger between us?
Like try to record a big car chase or something and editng it all together? (a'la Bond style chase in the JB700 or something?)

Just chucking ideas about - I want to get on more for meets & stuff but work is taking over a bit atm.

Also was thinking since its a car crew - what do you guys drive / want to drive in real life?

I'm one of the few who is on most nights there's less than 10 like me, eqaulo, zummere, spekks, Solomon to name a few, the crew has been fragile for a while, some people just can't see it.
