A real racer would have contact but have the skills to avoid big collisions lol but if people just gonna fuk bout den do non contact ....Il be on around 8pm n il do a meet if there's more than 4 people online lol if not den spekz il giv ya couple games of FIFA if ya on boi

yh tbh i was gonna keep contact on, as its more real that way and makes it more intresting, but just seeing what everyone else thought :D

A "real racer" would have a steering wheel that he or she could turn precisely by any amount, and pedals that could be pressed to any point between none and full, precisely and repeatedly.

A "real racer" would be able to feel the road surface coming through vibrations in the wheel and seat, and would be able to tell how hard the tires are working, and would be able to feel how much traction he has to work with, and how much further he or she could push the car before it goes out of control.

A "real racer" would be able to effortlessly and thoughtlessly turn his or her head in any direction instantly to see what's going on around him or her, and would also truly see in three dimensions.

A game controller does allow for some modulation; you can move the thumb stick just a little, or press the R2 or L2 button in just a little, and get a partial response. But it's nowhere near as precise or repeatable as a real car.

A game controller does have force feedback but that resembles real sensory feedback from the road about as much as dinner at McDonald's resembles dinner at a gourmet restaurant.

The game controller does allow you to change the camer angle in third-person, or your "head angle" in first person, but you can't snap your view to look instantly in a particular direction, then back to front, as quickly as you can in real life. And in third-person view it's hard to hold the camera angle in a particular direction when you're moving. And doing so takes more thought than it does in real life.

And the game, although rendered in 3D, is really flat. The game gives you the illusion of three dimensions by making objects get smaller as they get farther away, by having lines recede into the distance, by rendering distant objects in less focus and detail, etc. But all of this is only seen on the flat surface of your TV screen and there is no real sense of depth perception.

A "real racer" can see more, feel more, hear more, and smell more. A "real racer" can control his or her car with a degree of precision that's infinitely more fine than what's possible with a controller.

My overall point is that driving or racing a car in any video game is so far from "real" that any attempt to make it more real is ridiculous. A big part of why I am in favor of certain aids, such as "no contact" being turned on is that they help to make up for the limitations that just come with controlling a car in a video game. In the real world, I could use all my senses and my ability to finely control the car to avoid hitting you, but in a game, those things are absent, so I like the aid to make up for that absence.

I was being sarcastic so no need for that pointless message...I prefer contact on as it tests ya driving n makes racing more fun, .....if ya can race properly on a video game man.

I don't think you need to explain the difference from real life to a video game, as far as I know people in here are smart enough to understand that. You have to put his comment into context, he was talking about GTA and how proper door to door racing in the game is done by having contact on and not ghost driving.

Hey, i've been playing the Early Alpha Demo of Drift Stage, it's a 80's themed arcade drifting game, and it's really fun so you should check this out guys
It's completely free, it is compatible on both mac and PC, been playing on my macbook with my dualshock 4 plugged in usb (it works straight away)
http://supersystems.itch.io/driftstagealpha/

Here you go guys, enjoy this gem, there's even a photo mode

I was being sarcastic so no need for that pointless message...I prefer contact on as it tests ya driving n makes racing more fun, .....if ya can race properly on a video game man.

Joker

I don't have any fun when I get spun out by someone, and it's also not fun for me to spin someone else out, which makes me feel bad that I wrecked someone else's fun. I don't find that contact races test my driving, I find that they test my ability to avoid hitting others, and it also tests my ability to not throw my controller through my tv screen whenever I'm having a decent run and get wiped out not through my own lack of skill, but by someone else's...or worse, by their deliberate effort to be an ass.

I don't think you need to explain the difference from real life to a video game, as far as I know people in here are smart enough to understand that. You have to put his comment into context, he was talking about GTA and how proper door to door racing in the game is done by having contact on and not ghost driving.

Both you and Soloman referred to "proper racing". There is no proper way in this game, there's one way and there's another way, and to say that one of the ways isn't proper is ludicrous.

And I don't known what everyone here knows or what they think. So please excuse my long-winded or "pointless" explanation, as I said I don't know what anyone else knows or thinks. I'm just going off a comment that non-contact isn't realistic. You know, it reminds me of the people who complain about auto-aim, well of course auto-aim isn't realistic...but neither is aiming with a thumb stick. People just look at one unrealistic feature and complain about it, but I don't know if they actually take the time to truly think about what they're complaining about, or why it's there. I can tell you from real life experience that I can aim a gun at a person in real life much quicker than I can manually aim in any video game using a thumb stick, so yeah, I like auto-aim because for me, it balances the lack of realistic control and makes the overall experience more realistic. Just like non-contact balances the other realism shortcomings of video game racing to make the overall experience more realistic, and at least to me, more fun.
