Tips for people who have trouble surviving a firefight.

Over the months, I've gotten in countless fights on GTA. I've taken on groups of 4 or 5, and I've also had my ass whooped by a single guy. I can hold my own in a gun fight, but I feel bad when I see people being killed by someone over and over and over. Sometimes people will try to get in gun fights with me and they are just so bad at staying alive I can't believe it.

I've made up a list of tips, tricks, and rules you can follow if you are being pushed around a lot and having trouble standing your ground when it comes to being in a firefight.

  1. Don't let them see you. This is my #1 rule of all time, and it's pretty self-explanatory. The second someone gets eyes on your character, they will shoot at you. Always keepsomething in between you and your enemy. (A car, wall, hedge, fence, building). A lot of people try to use the "Dodge-roll" to try and mess with me. They'll strafe to the side out of cover and roll. It also breaks your auto-aim on them. If you are even halfway good at using a gun, you'll just be able to shoot them anyways since they are out in the open, while you should be in cover.

  2. Learn how to properly use cover. Knowing how to quickly spot a good piece of cover can and will save your life. Some great pieces of cover include walls at 90 degree angles, and short walls that reach just past the top of your head. Dangerous cover would be slanted walls, cars, anything where parts of your body are sticking out (bus stops, very short walls, circular pillars, trees etc..). Hedges can be tricky because the ends are rounded and some don't even let you take cover at all.

  3. Get in cover and let them come to you. If you move around too much, you give them more chances to see you and kill you.

  4. Know what gun to use. Different situations require different guns. Everybody is different and have different preferences, but I can give you a general idea of what to use and when. For close ranges, I prefer to use the Assault Shotgun. Blind firing that gun will destroy anyone that's not in perfect cover, especially with the extended mags. Other shotguns, AP Pistol, and SMG's would also be a good choice. Medium range is definitely what Assault Rifles are best at. At long ranges, I use an LMG. Snipers would also be good. Super-far ranges obviously use a sniper.

  5. Don't let yourself get angry. This is the one that I break the most unfortunately. If someone kills you, and you get frustrated and mad, you stop thinking and start acting stupid. Just forget it and keep thinking strategy. Don't let it get to you.

  6. Don't give your enemy something to complain about. If you stay in the same spot too long, or use too many sticky bombs or RPG's, they will blame your win on that fact. Keep moving, and don't use sticky bombs for every single kill. If you don't fight dirty, they can't complain about you being cheap. Of course, if they pissed you off in some way or attacked you unprovoked, feel free to blow them up as much as you want.

  7. Don't fall for booby traps, and know how to trick your enemy. Know know to recognize the signs of someone trying to trick you. One of my favorite things to do is to place a sticky bomb on the inside of an alley way and run down to the end. They always follow quickly and walk right into it. If they do that 2 or 3 times, chances are that they are gonna try again. Also, if there is a random explosion near you, they are probably throwing explosives, so you should get somewhere safe quickly. Another dirty trick is to call a mugger on them, and kill them while they're laying on the ground. It usually gets them really angry, which is what you want. Try to get to buildings that are more then one floor. They won't know which level you're on and will have to slowly creep up the stairs which makes for an easy kill.

  8. How to counter an RPG user. If your enemy is using an RPG, you need to have a completely different mindset. You have to assume they are always going to use it. I have to make myself NOT use my RPG because most of the time it's just so easy to kill them. If they have one, try to keep the high ground, don't stand near cars/walls, and don't get too close.

  9. Don't stand anywhere near vehicles. If you're anywhere near a car, all it takes is one grenade and you're dead. Try to keep your distance to things that explode.

  10. If they get in a tank, you WIN. This is my own personal rule. If they run off and get in a tank so they can repeatedly kill you, you automatically win the fight. If they need to be in a tank to kill you, then that instantly proves you are better than them.

Those are the most important ones I can think of right now. Of course, if you're fighting against a group of 2-4 there's an extra rule. Don't let them flank you. Keep moving back if they try, and kill the guy who's trying. Keep them all in front of you. If you're fighting 5+ people, all I can say is RUN!

Also, if you are completely obliterating your enemy, killing them 25 times in a row, go easy on them. Nobody likes to be killed over and over.

If the firefight ends and you go your separate ways, send them a "GG" or some sort of compliment even if you lost. It makes it a lot less serious and is a pretty awesome thing to do if you just got your ass beat.

If anyone has any other helpful tips or rules to help the less-talented population out there survive, I'd love to see what you have to say.

About 10.I ve been winning gunfights on foot but the cops annoy me and then I hop in a tank so I no longer give a f*ck about them and at the same time I speed up the process of him leaving the lobby.

Welcome to GTAF, everyone here is a holier-than-thou stuck up little bitch.

Good advice for new players.

My advice is this: Don't wear bright colors. Makes you easy to spot. I love killing douchebags that wear white suites or baby blue jackets and all that gay sh*t.

Another tip, if you are doing anything other than trying to get in a fight then use invite only sessions:)

I like the last point. There were noobf*ck who couldn't kill me to get 7k bounty on my head when they're on foot. One of them resort to tank and killed me many times. But in between that, I threw them a lot of Dock gesture while in passive mode.

I just mentioned auto-aim because of the fact that the dodge-roll does break it. Anyone who uses auto-aim who doesn't know that, should probably know. I didn't exclusively write this for auto-aim firefights.

And I meant 1v2+

Use your ears aswell for this one, sticky bombs make this "ticking" sound, it'll usually be too late if you hear it, especially if you're running, but if you walk slowly and listen for traps, it just might save your life.

This is the one I disagree with... Personally, I'm not gonna let someone's potential complaining dictate my actions. If I'm in a spot that gives me a tactical advantage, or throwing sticky bombs continuously beats them, then personally, I'm gonna keep doing it until they find a way to beat it.

It's like in football, if the opposing defense can't stop a certain play, keep calling that play until they can prove that they can stop it.

It also pretty much contradicts what you say in Rule #3: "Get in cover and let them come to you. If you move around too much, you give them more chances to see you and kill you."

So, should I "get in cover and let them come to me," as you say in #3, or should I "keep moving," as you say to do in #6...?

Besides, most people that complain don't need a "reason" to... They usually complain, simply because they are unskilled, too dumb, or too lazy (perhaps even a combination of the three) to effectively counter what is being thrown at them.

ten-a-penny

out of the best tips I've seen so far. +1

I only rage out while in a Freemode DM. while its running. though when its all over, if I lost, nothing. its just a game. why would I get angry or something?

also, if you're in a tight area, better to lay off some stickies around you and behind you. if the enemy is really close to you and/or one of the traps, detonate the bombs. you'll kill yourself and the enemy, making you spawn elsewhere with the ability of choosing a better place, and in the same time, earning a point.

this is mostly effective in DMs. my best one was just hours ago. I got clocked in a closed area behind a car. I threw stickies to the left and right of the entrance, and on the car. once the target got close I blew him and myself up. I won the DM easily that way :santa:
