860
This is some serious sh*t right here. If this will actually work on humans it will change the world forever. Scientists have successfully reversed the aging process in mice according to a new study just released. Human trials are to begin next, possibly before the year is over. The study was published in the peer reviewed science journal Cell after researchers from both the U.S and Australia made the breakthrough discovery. Lead researcher David Sinclair of the University of New South Wales says he is hopeful that the outcome can be reproduced in human trials. A successful result in people would mean not just a slowing down of aging but a measurable reversal. The study showed that after administering a certain compound to the mice, muscle degeneration and diseases caused by aging were reversed. Sinclair says the study results exceeded his expectations, explaining:I’ve been studying aging at the molecular level now for nearly 20 years and I didn’t think I’d see a day when ageing could be reversed. I thought we’d be lucky to slow it down a little bit. The mice had more energy, their muscles were as though they’d be exercising and it was able to mimic the benefits of diet and exercise just within a week. We think that should be able to keep people healthier for longer and keep them from getting diseases of ageing. The compound the mice ate resulted in their muscles becoming very toned, as if they’d been exercising. Inflammation, a key factor in many disease processes, was drastically reduced. Insulin resistance also declined dramatically and the mice had much more energy overall. Researchers say that what happened to the mice could be compared to a 60 year old person suddenly having the muscle tone and energy of someone in his or her 20s.What’s more, say the researchers, these stunning results were realized within just one week’s time. The compound raises the level of a naturally occurring substance in the human body called nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. This substance decreases as people age, although those who follow a healthy diet and get plenty of exercise do not suffer the same level of reduction in the substance as do people who do not exercise. This may explain why people who remain fit into their senior years often enjoy better health than others.Scientists who participated in the study say that poor communication between mitochondria and the cell nucleus is to blame for the aging process. The compound the researchers have developed cause the cells to be able to “talk” to each other again. They compared the relationship between the nucleus and the mitochondria to a married couple; by the time the couple has been married for 20 years, “communication breaks down” and they don’t talk to each other as much. Just like a marriage, this relationship and communication within it can be repaired, say the researchers.Aging has successfully been reversed in mice, but Sinclair says he needs to raise more money before he can commit to a date when trials may begin in humans. The results of this initial study in mice are very promising and may pave the way for similar results in humans. Article.Summary of the peer revieved research. Otter
I feel bad. Someone else posted this already and it got locked. But f*ck it. I'm skipping the testing and gonna order a ton of NAD myself. I'll report back if it works. If you don't hear from me ever again... well, safe to say I've become the rat king and will be found in the sewers of New York. No, it meant I am amazed at what scientiest's are able to do and how the world is progessing from what we thought was possible a mere 100 years ago. Basically you read what I wrote and took what I said the opposite way of what I meant. Edited March 30, 2014 by Hodgey.

I was not aware of this, I don't actually browse Gen Chat like I used to. Why was it locked? I wonder what this is going to do to the global demographics in the long run? Bigger percentage of white westeners? If it will be dirt cheap it will change everything. World history will pretty much be divided into before-this and post-this. I can also see a lot of people refusing to get it and instead live a natural human life cycle and die a natural death. These people will also have to ask what is natural these days and what is not? Otter
The other thread was binned, likely because phunkism doesn't know how to create a topic properly. I think he called it "finally" and simply linked to the story in the first post. Poor forum ettiquette. Anyhow, while this is certainly exciting and fun, it's not revolutionary or groundbreaking, really. In fact the human studies that have been done in the past are inconclusive. You can buy the stuff online. The old "if it seems to good to be true" adage springs to mind, but if I could redo my twenties without killing myself with booze and lethargy, I'd gladly do so. Ha. Creed Bratton
I've seen this a while ago. It's pretty cool. I think it's only a matter of time before we discover the technology that would increase our lifespan dramatically, or even allow us to live indefinitely. I just hope that we can fix some issues on this planet before we reach that state. If we don't, the world will become overpopulated. In that case we'll have several choices: 1. Start aging "normally" again 2. War and mass murder 3. Space colonization Unfortunately, I think the second option is probably the one that would occur. 860
I like the option number 2. War and mass murder. Sounds the most plausible. Then again the time between the first flight by the Wright brothers and the moon landing was only 66 years. We can do great things when faced with necessity. Smith John
The fact this thread is being allowed to flourish while Phunkism's earlier topic was thrown off the face of GTAF is making me laugh more than it should for some dumbass reason. Anyway, when I skimmed through the initial linked reporting in the binned thread, I thought this was more about reversing the signs of ageing in your appearance, but...dafuq? phunkism 1 bash the fash m8s

bread
The rich and elite will get to experience this breakthrough first, if it efficiently and successfully manages to work on humans as it did on the tested mice. Plus, I'm thinking it'll be several years before humans get the true taste of this. Reverse aging at this moment is still not a normal part of reality, but it could be after scientists manage to fully administrate the compounds needed for the process of reverse aging to people who demand it. But then again, that's a long way from now, and quite frankly the way I see it only certain people can get to use it only, like the ill and dying. Governments are gonna maintain this thing to the max, no doubt. And with that said, f*ck yeah science! Niobium

018361
For the science aspect of this it is fantastic! The mice will be so happy to know that we loved them so much that we have found ways for them to live longer by: 1. Domesticating and trapping cats so that they don't kill them. 2. Using our scientific knowledge to allow them to live longer and better lives. 3. Allowing them to participate in the studies so that we can analyze the data from the prospective of mice. /Sarcasm As for my own view of it: Don't get me wrong it's fantastic to see how far science has gone, but I just don't want to live to see the effects of over-population and other disasters that happen to occur. Even if my religion is wrong I still want to die eventually so that the questions to life can finally be answered and besides I don't think anyone can truly live forever because there are much too many factors by which we could die. Shmoopy
This has the same effect as of Anabolic Steroids , injecting that "N.A.D" substance to the body does no reverse the aging process , it just boosts the cellular metabolism , reversing the aging process is something as unachievable as sneezing with your eyes open or traveling through time
Raavi
Forgive me, but I rather take the word of a study featured on the Harvard Medical School website, then that of some random john on the internet. No offense, of course. I'm a strong believer in the capabilities of humans. I mean, little over 100 years ago the Wright brothers were ridiculed because they believed they could go airborne, today commercial space travel is possible. My point being, It might take time, but nothing is unachievable. Here's hoping we get to reap the benefits of this in our lifetime. As for my personal view. I have no religious affiliations, no prospect of living on some cloud. So I actually would want to live forever, or at least for a couple hundred of years, provided those closest to me would do the same and we all wouldn't age, or age very, very slowly. chatD4VIS-360
Doesn't sound like a reverse in aging. Are they recreating cells? Just sounds like a little boost to muscle tone and energy.
