It takes 16h 48m (= 33m 36s) to circle the map by train

Including an 18 minute (= 36 second) stop at the Palmer-Taylor Power Station, which is the easiest point to board.

The route is: Palmer-Taylor Power Station, NOOSE Headquarters, Los Santos River, Port of South Los Santos, Elysian Island Rail Bridge, Roy Lowenstein Boulevard, Los Santos River, NOOSE Headquarters, Bolingbroke Penitentiary, Davis Quartz, Silent Probe Mountain, Sandy Shores, Zancudo River, Calafia Bridge, Paleto Forest, Paleto Bay, Braddock Pass, Davis Quartz, Palmer-Taylor Power Station.

It's still to be determined if there is more than one train on the map. I didn't find any evidence of other trains, but it probably takes more than one player to find out.

I don't really keep track of the time but Me and crew members do this all the time by setting bounties on our heads while taking joyrides across the whole map. So much fun! I Recommend trying it

Someone turned me on to that game a couple weeks ago. The game I always did prior was setting bounties and booby trapping the bank and waiting. Good stuff.

There must be more than one train, because if you wait at the tracks there will be a train every few minutes, and they also have different loads

I am interested in what would happen when a train is destroyed though since in MP you can shoot trains with explosives and they will stop, what happens to the other trains?

I would say why the hell would you do this?! But I've been guilty of it myself :S

Got into a decent conversation with another player, and by time I regained consciousness I'd done a lap.

they must have increased the speed of the train...

i did this test back in january, got on board while the train stopped near the quarry if not mistaken.

on that time it took the train 24 ingame hours (48mins) to go full circle making 2 stops, the one near the quarry and the other stop was while in the city.

That's true. Most likely, trains behave just like cars, i.e. they spawn around players and de-spawn when no-one's looking.

too much time on your hands buddy.

Posting such a statement on gtaforums is a common logical fallacy. ;)

Ahh, this is cool. Haven't seen anyone chatting about trains in the game very much. I quite like hitching on one and shooting out at random people..

Its also a cool thing to do if you get a bounty on you..

I reckon trains don't spawn when it is in the FOV of another player.. If it does there'll be a sh*t load of carnage.. Unstoppable object meets immovable object. Hohoho.

The service is very poor now since they decided to privatise it , I never seem to be able to get a seat these days , unless I glitch into the drivers cab then blow his brains out , which ,strangely enough I have done several times , they must have good health care on the railways .

Sometimes when you are in Davis/East Los Santos, you can get a Light Rail Train and a freight train to spawn at the same time, also: Light Rail Train takes a lot longer to go in a full loop due to all the stops and slow speed.

Maybe you could test it by blocking a rail tunnel with a PV at the other side of the map then see if it moves?

I really wanna know what happens if someone blows up a train, whilst someone else is riding on the train behind it, will they collide or what?

Really interesting topic :)
Thanks for those numbers, OP. :cookie:

I've probably ridden the train so many times I should be the driver myself. I use it against cops, go to places, put a BMX in there and go to Paleto Bay (I live at the docks), it's so great they got a train online (GTA IV didn't have one). I do know that rarely you'll fall off the train or be crush by a unmoving train, usually with no locomotive. The train you're on will just go right through it. It always happens to me on the right side of the map after coming out of a tunnel near a highway. (middle right of the map, near the gun and store on the highway).

I have at least 2 times, out in Blaine County by Sandy Shores, seen multiple trains on the track. I have seen two trains clip into each other, just phase through each other.

I was riding one of the trains and ahead on the tracks was one of the train cars just sitting there. My train phased through it but when I collided with the sitting train car, i got crushed between it and the train car I was in. Pretty crazy sh*t.

I think I have a great idea to make either a huge glitch or a huge crash.

Fact 1.

Trains spawn every few minutes when your near the tracks.

Fact 2.

Trains stop for a while at the power station.

As many people as we can get need to stand near a track, far enough away from each other that you can't see each other but not miles away.

When a train comes, get on it but only if nobody else is on it.

You will have to figure out a way to make sure you all get a train which is going the same way as everyone else and not on the wrong side of the track.

With a bit of practice, they will either crash into each other when the one stops or they will just play cat and mouse.

Worth a try though.

Like I said, the trains will warp reality.

I can confirm trains despawn I managed to land my motocycle inside one of the train cars. (a few times) and in each instance the train would drop my personal vehicle after about 30 seconds. More importantly I observed that if I raced ahead of a train in order to reach a tunnel so I could drop my vehicle in. The train that arrived wouldn't match the train I passed such as I passed a train with large red tanks but the one that arrived at the tunnel had only box cars and open beds.

So while the game does track where a train should be at any given moment the train won't actually exist unless you come within range.

I love when people with bounties hop on trains thinking that it will be hard to kill them. Just drive past there train, hop out of the car and blow them up. Or snipe them if i feel like it being a slightly bigger challenge

Well that was there own stupidity for not shooting at you or hoping onto one of the box cars when it becomes apparent someone could be mining the track. I've held off plenty of bounty hunters from the train. Its not really about safety its about being mobile while having the freedom to fire all your weapons and take cover.

Or you take the rocket, or the sniper round or the grenade.. or I go off the radar hop off the train and run you over. And a rocket to one of the ACTUAL full box cars wouldn't do anything to someone standing on top of it. The open box cars sure if you hit where they were taking cover. But you seem to be dealing with people who get on the train and then relax instead of treating the train like a mobile deathmatch platform.

That's why I blow up the cars soon after jumping on the train. Unless you're a good jet pilot or damned lucky at kamikaze's, you're sh*t out of luck
