How long until the stars are gone?

Hi all,

I've been wondering, does anybody know the exact amount of time that needs to pass for the police to stop searching for you? That is, from the moment they lose you and the minimap stops flashing. I'm asking, since when evading 5 stars I often need to stay unnoticed in cover for, well, a loooong time for the cops to put off their search. Maybe 2 minutes? 3? Or at least it feels like it.

I feel like the amount of time gets longer the more stars you have. I must be right? And of course, that makes sense. One star is maybe 20 seconds? Has anybody checked this?

Cheers,

the more stars, the longer you're going to be playing hide&seek with policemen

as for the exact time, it seems to be random

Maybe you're right and it is random. Next time I jump in I'm going to investigate this further..

I don't know the exact times for the different amounts of stars. but you can definitely accellerate the process of losing stars.

Lets say you have three stars and wear a hat. Three stars means a helicopter is going to chase you, which makes it more difficult to escape.

When you are out of sight from the police you just take off your hat. Changing your clothes (through your inventory/select button) you will instantly lose 1 star. Works with glasses, hats, kevlar (I guess)
That way you can avoid the helicopter.
Don't put it on again until the stars are completely gone, otherwise the star will return. I am not sure if this even works with 4+ stars. Doesn't work with only 1 star.

You can also change your car, or even better, change from car to foot and hide somewhere. You will lose your stars faster.
If you combine the clothing, car and hiding method, the stars should be gone quick.

Moreover the police needs to arrive at the crime scene.
If you are out in the wilderness it takes the police much longer to get to you while they are faster in the "city areas". You can use this to your advantage as well. Just flee before they arrive at all.

Thing I noticed in gta 4 and 5 is that, when you get out of your car and cover against something, the stars will disappear quicker.

Good stuff there. I never thought to use the hat trick. I knew about the masks, but always thought they were kinda silly and when I used one months ago ended up bald. Lol!! (I know they fixed that)

I use evasive driving and when out of sight get out of car and take cover against wall. It works in the city.. :p

I noticed when they're closing in on you. Don't move and just before they spot you they back off.

And when you pullout your phone the stars won't disappear at all.

I guess they know your calling Lester.. :p

:D not all the time but you only have to put the arrow up button so that your phone with the homescreen comes up on the right side of your screen and the stars will never go away ;)

Cheers,

When one star appears it will flash after about half a minute and for it to disappear completely it is after about a minute and twenty seconds

I know this is old question but just notised that no one actually answered it completely.

Sorry if i use the wrong terms, hope you will get the idea.

When you triger the wanted level, cops will start to chase after you.

There are two types / statuses:

1.  "Hot zone" or/and "in sight of the cops" -

you are in the crime area or cops know where you are exactly bc you too close to them or you in thier con of vision!

you know you in this status by looking in the minimap, if the background blinking red and blue!

until you lose the cops sight you will be in this status forever!

2. Cops are searching after you but don't know where you are.

minimap background will be normal and you will see cops location and thier con of vision.

this is when you actually starting to lose the cops.

the time it takes between "in sight" status to "lose wanted level totally" depending how many stars you have!

"Searching" time:

1 star    = 27 sec

2 stars = 35 sec

3 stars = 38 sec

4 stars = 48 sec

5 stars = 72 sec

(can be wrong by 1 sec +/-)

The game starting some countdown that resets every time you seen by cops.

that means you need to stay clear of sight all the time in a row of your level!

* Note: tested in any lobby on pc, in some jobs the system alittle buggy.

you will see that you gain in sight again and lose after few sec, but game not count it and not reseting the countdown.

(this is only from my observation and experience, maybe i mistake something but this is what i know)
