Gestures, Masks, and Passive Mode... oh my!

1. Gestures
First of all, I love the original gestures, especially the "Jerk," as it's a nod to The Hangover's Mr. Chow (see below), but honestly, the new one's are just obnoxious. The "Docker" one is kind of funny when you first see it, but after losing a bunch of races to the same player, it's nice to mix em up a bit. Arguably, the worst, though, has to be the "Hip Thrust." It looks so goofy and clownish, especially on male characters at the end of a race. Female characters pull it off much better, but still.

What's the consensus on Gestures here? I personally stick with the "Salute," but default to the "Bird" when necessary.

 

2. Masks
What do masks say about the player? I run around wearing a Cupid mask because it's both creepy as hell and comical, at the same time. However, anytime I see a player in a Pig mask, they generally turn out to be level 914 and a toolbag. Not all, mind you, but most. Manhunt masks are usually just out to have destructive fun, but often don't know when to stop. Monkey men are unpredictable. I've found that they're usually very good players, have reasonably earned high levels and the players you don't want to futz with. All other masks are just silly, especially the demon one's. Although, the Mexican skull masks are awesome to look at. I just wish you could wear a hat with them!

3. Passive Mode
Or more directly, coming OUT of Passive Mode. What's the deal with coming out of Passive Mode and having to watch a timer before using weapons - yet, other players can kill you while timer's still on? Anyone? And yeah, it still bugs me that I can't drive in Passive. or call for backup or muggers. Otherwise, it's a great strategic tool which I love to use just to mess with players.

I use the blow kiss animation gesture. And the Cupid mask is my favorite, although I haven't worn it in a while. I like to come out of passive mode for a surprise attack and I go off the radar when I try to kill someone who is camping.

The jerk is still the most obnoxious gesture by far.

 

I only wear a mask if my character's face gets bruised and scarred.

 

I'd rather not have people jump in and out of passive.

 

I hardly use off the radar.

I usually just have a respectful salute as my gesture unless there's some jackass trying to run over me, then I get up to an elevated surface and thrust to my heart's content.

I wear that one deadeye warrior mask when I'm feeling particularly aggressive (usually put on in a dm, survival, etc)

Passive mode is fine, the timer makes sense considering that it would be a cheap move to be able to come right out and start shooting people.

Off the radar just mixes things up that much more. Anytime I feel a little anonymity will help I use it.

I'm a big fan of the new "air thrust". Mostly because my character is now dressed in that brown/tan tweed looking suit, brown vest, tortoiseshell glasses, and vintage derby hat; the contrast of apparent sophistication and childish hip thrusting is hilarious to me.

 

Pig masks all the way. Mostly because the crew I'm in has Pork in the title. Also, those longnose, eyeswideshut style orgy masks are funny.

 

One day R* will get passive mode down. Probably not in the near future, but eventually.

1. i don't use any action for a winning toast, i like how my character just stands there looking around like "i won, so where were you guys?"

 

2. never wear masks and don't really trust anyone that does.

 

3. the timer is there so it's not as easy for people to take advantage of switching out of passive and just instantly killing someone next to them. you can still do it, but you better think about it first. also how can someone be passive in a vehicle, it's a rolling high speed deadly weapon.

 

4. i use off radar quite often, but usually to move around the map without worrying about someone following me or knowing where i'm going.

1- I always try to change up my gestures. I wish the smoke one didn't look so fruity, I'd use that prob most of the time. Right now I like to eat p's & q's most of the time.

 

2- I always wear a mask, mainly cause I am not completely satisfied with how he turned out looks wise and also because his face is always bruised and ugly. I pretty much exclusively wear hockey masks because a) I like hockey and b) the whole Jason Voorhies killer angle. I loved Friday the 13th when I was younger

 

3- I never really use passive mode. Only a couple times when there was some huge melee going on in free roam and I just wanted to get to somewhere else without being killed. I can count on one hand the number of times I went passive. The first time I got shot in a car on passive was the last.

 

And I hate when I'm in the middle of a huge melee and someone in passive wants to come stand next to me. It's like they're waiting for me to stop paying attention to them so they can get a cheap kill while I'm distracted.

 

4- I tend to use off the radar exclusively for bounties, when they're hiding out so I can get close and kill them or get a sniper shot off while they're unaware that I'm scoping them. A couple times I used it cause multiple players were coming for me, trying to team up, a good way to gain an advantage when trying to take out 3+ guys. Works also when you have a bounty and they closing in to make a couple quick kills and move to a better location. I have used it to get revenge kills also but not in a long time ( back when I was level 40-50 and wanted to get back at a level 100ish that had me outgunned.)

but in free roam, it's usually salute.

 

Monkey/Piggy masks - usually a griefing squeaker

Pogo Masks - Tanker/Above average player

Hockey masks - Average player

Cupid/Skeleton - Noob

 

Passive mode: it's fine the way it is, if there were no timer, it'd be abused like hell. I do think passive mode should work in cars though..

 

Off the radar: Never seem to use it. I should probably get to using it more

I love the thrust winning action. It's probably the funniest thing on the game. I don't like the jerk action, but the dock is cool.

 

I don't wear masks, and won't unless they add bandanas and ski masks. People that wear masks get shot at if they run up. I always want my enemies to see my face.

OP do you really find air thrusting offensive, but don't mind throwing spunk in someone's face?

2) Never even been to the mask shop.

3) As stated the timer on passive is make it harder get cheap kills. I fell for that ONCE.

4) I'm an off the radar whore! Use it for killing bounties and bounty hunters, escaping groups of players, taking out tanks/buzzards and if there's a "hot zone" in a lobby I'm in. I'll go off radar before I enter said zone and kill as many players as I can to hopefully get them all mad at me.

I only use air thrust as a race celebration, normally I stick with salute to show people Im friendly before they blow my face off.

 

I dont really use passive unless there is a particularly persistant tanker lurking.

 

I only use masks for store robberies.

Gesture: I usually go with Salute.

 

Mask: I usually only wear to lower a wanted rating. Metal Warrior is the favourite. (My crew being Iron Thistle after all.)

 

Passive: I'll only bother with that if I'm getting sick of being spawn killed. I am not hugely aggressive in free mode, so it doesn't get used all that often.

 

No I am not one of those don't kill me I'm playing people. I just don't go out of my way to kill everyone unless I'm participating in a free roam death match, or you kill me for no reason while I'm cruising.

you can be killed easily. you cant call for backup or none of that. you can be mugged, and the list goes on.

 

the only moment passive mode seem to be useful was when we were able to teleport around when a tanker had one pinned in certain area.

i use it all the time. specially when hunting some bounty or simply when im doing a surprise attack on car meet or stuff like that.

 

wish we were able to pay to be off for a longer period of time. to be honest i wont mind paying 5-10k for a good 5 minutes of off radar.

I only use masks when i'm in annoying run around and beat up my crew with the crow bar mood.

I also like to airthrust people that have left their controller by itself while theyve gone to the loo

Passive is for tankers and people in wall breaches

Off radar for bounties, scaring people on mics and tank nuking

If you take the mask off after robbing the store you wanted level decreases by one star

I judge people by their gestures...if they have the jerk one I just think that you're an asshole kid...I usually have it set to nothing (which is a bit sh*t because its like you're TOO cool) or mostly the salute to be as if you're a good sport.

 

I only use masks during missions just for the feel of needing them when you don't really...ads a bit of role play fun to it. And in use the pig (from day 1) upgraded to bloody pig...all the new ones look like cheap Halloween masks specifically aimed at kids tastes in their multicolored cars.

 

Passive mode is a bit sh*t to come out of alright... Other players being able to shoot you etc...but I think the reason is obvious...you'd have players constantly in passive mode and then getting close to you, quickly switching to kill you and then switching back...it would just be a nightmare...it would also just enforce you to do the same.

 

I use off the radar quite a bit - for fun I try and fall from the sky without pulling my parachute abd fall flat on the ground in front of people (very hard to do though) or if I'm up against someone and were both in cover I'll go off the radar and almost always they think I'm going to run up behind them but I just stay still and they cone running towards me Its usfull to get snipers of the roof also...run the helicopter along the lines of the road (to not be obvious you're in a chopper) the go off radar and parachute onto the roof (really satisfying if you then get a malee kill its also good for just driving through a war zone to see what's going on (in an normal car of course) loads of reasons.

1. My characters blow a kiss...I tend to avoid less respectful gestures unless its messing around with people I know.

2. Never wear masks but one of my characters does have the Mime make-up (she's dressed all black and white with b/w cars etc)

3. Don't use passive mode as its useless anyway...but the timer is just to stop people jumping in and out to abuse it.

4. I don't use off radar when a bounty is on me as I quite enjoy making the bounty hunters work for their kills. I do use it a lot when I want to close the space between myself and a target without them realising until the last second.

Gestures - I like air thrust and blow kiss, but mainly for the victory screen on the female character

Masks - I only use the eye masks from the valentines DLC because I like to pretend I'm a vigilante/ super hero to justify some of my terrible behaviour.

Passive mode - used it in the past for getting close and photographing fools, never used it for sneaky nefarious reasons. The only other time I would use it is if I've been killed by a fellow twanker and they seem the spawn killing type I wouldn't give them the satisfaction. Ideally I prefer to be blown out of my tank then spawn into the world with a 'come at me bro' attitude for everyone that wants revenge lol.

Off radar - love this feature and use it several times per sessions for all kinds of reasons. Last night for example I got in the middle of a couple of crews having a fight around paradise alley and just trolled them by going off radar and stabbing the snipers to death whilst they were aiming down the sights. They got me back, but it was worth it.

1. Victory: Thrusting, Freemode: Drink Pisswasser or crew jerk. The crew jerk is positioned differently to the normal one. Normal is unload on your face whereas the crew version is higher and off center as a sign of disrespectful dismissal.

2. Wore the Dia De Los Muertos masks until I could unlock Pogo, wore that for a long time but don't usually wear any at all any more on either character. I'm not Dr. Friedlander, as such I don't I make assumptions about the players character(their moral character, not toon.)

3. Passive mode seems to have been conceived, designed and implemented in a drunken fugue state. I guess they can't remember what they were drinking to reenter the state and fix it.

4. I go off radar for sneak attacks or tactical repositioning.

"hey this guy is in passive mode lets just ignore him and turn my back"- BLAM BLAM BLAM- auto shotty to the back of the head.

 

4. hardly if ever, sometimes when I think up some fancy scheme involving simeons HPV or a bounty I use it but with the timing and everything it hardly ever works out for me.
