It is taken from Vice City. Salvatore, Massimo, the cops and other pedestrians around the city also make use of it.

Is there any evidence of the Tommy (the car, not the character) having made it far enough into development to appear in one of these builds? It having a model suggests it wasn't a super early cut.

It's cops walking animation from GTA Vice City. In the release version they are using some beta walking anim from GTA SA

so they made unique models for avery and 8ball and then scrapped them to reuse the models from vc and 3, meanwhile they reused miguel's gta3 model and then scrapped it to make a unique model for him? hello, rockstar? logic??

 

anyway some text changes i noticed in the july build

  • "Forelli ExSess" vehicle was named "Forelli Lexcess"
  • "Deimos SP" vehicle was named "F550 Deimos"
  • "Phobos Vt" vehicle was named "ViTurbo"
  • "PCJ-600" vehicle was named "PCJ600"
  • "Overalls" outfit was named "Killer-wear"
  • Antonio, Sweats, Goodfella, and Wiseguy outfits may not have existed at that point as there are no OUTF_* labels or unlock help texts for them
  • "Capital Autos" was still named "Easy Credit Autos"
  • "Liberty Tree" was named "Liberty Courier"
  • "Phil Cassidy's Fully Cocked Gun Shop" was named "Phil Cassidy's Arms Emporium"
    •  also it seems Phil himself was going to be at the counter, text for Friggin' the Riggin' says that "Phil is waiting for you to pick [up the flamethrower]" and the fail text for killing the shop worker is "Phil is history!"
  • "GO GO Faggio" was named "PCJ Playground" (reused from vc i guess)
  • in "No Money, Mo' Problems" the bomb would cost $100,000
  • mentions of drugs used their real names (valium/Rohypnol in Salvatore's Salvation, Diazepam in Biker Heat)
  • "Steering the Vote" required you to take hold of 4 areas
  • Pike Creek Rampage (Destroy 10 vehicles in 2 minutes) likely used a different weapon (can someone check the script for changes?) since the objective specifies "Driveby and destroy"
  • Original hidden package rewards:
    • 20: Grenades
    • 30: Shotgun
    • 40: Body Armor
    • 50: SMG
    • 60: .357
    • 70: AK47
    • 80: Laser Sighted Sniper Rifle
    • 90: Minigun
  • MP character name changes (original -> final):
    • Hombre -> Phil DeGirth
    • D'Angelo -> Rico Garlik

Yeah, i messed up the ISO, what i ended up with was a frankensteined mix of 0.0.1 and 0.02. UltraISO didn't really remove the folders but replaced all identical files -.-

 

But this is what it ended up with, fully working german subtitles (pricedown font is broken though, not supprting any "Umlaute"). Subtitle font is fine though.

Looking at Mickey and Avery, I get the feeling that either NY or North weren't happy with the result and asked them to scrap/replace it. Tbh it looks somewhat out of place.

Well, it's internally called "ESPRIT" even in the final version, so...

 

Anyway, how is it possible to get these models into a build that can be run? I can see that some here have succeeded. I tried taking out the models from the IMG, but there are size differences which would compromise the making of a new IMG.

You can see how the attitude towards quality and self-censorship of models in Rockstar has declined over the years. If in those years they tried to go through different options that will be less similar to the prototype cars and at the same time find a good visual balance for each of the cars to make them memorable, then since the second wave of updates GTA Online they just forgot about it and a huge number of new cars and visual became almost 1:1 with the prototypes of real cars

There doesn't seem to be any additional beta vehicles, besides the alternative versions of the sports cars.

Not even the early player models we had in the release version of the game either 🤔

Via HEX editing of GTA3PSPHR.IMG of 0.02 build. Since there is no known method to rebuild Stories *.IMG (as I know) with files bigger than original we can't do much. Other than replacing Landstalker with other vehicles. It's just for showcase, not the best way to do it, because it has wrong "handling" data, base color, wheel size, and such. Seems like developers have reduced poly count of those vehicles for optimization purposes in the final version, so we can't directly replace beta files in their original place.

This unfortunately doesn't work. I tried using UMDGen as well as UltraISO and I just get a black screen.


Edit: The July SCM and GXT files work in the September build. Looks like Home Sweet Home started at nighttime at one point.

Too bad I can't get any IMG files to work, nor the radios. I noticed they have .DIR paired with them like GTA III/VC/SA do. The September build and the final game have .LVZ files. I've noticed the radio files have the GTA III names. I imagine at that point, they just stuck the GTA III radio stations in the game as placeholder.


Edit: So you can hold L + R + Down + X to access the Debug menu. I'm using the July SCM. I imagine it works with the September one.

Looks like this marker is placed inside the building for the Staunton Island safe house. I imagine you were able to walk into the stairway in that version.

Edit: Same applies for the Shoreside Vale safehouse. We got to dump those July build assets and port them to the September build/final game, or to the Re: LCS mod for VC. I bet there is stuff that is radically different in it. The Chad developers worked fast in the 2000s so I'm sure a lot is changed.

is there any discoveries about cars called "Lancer MF1" and "Skoiloine" and other unnamed cars but signed in handling CFG as "Subaru" and "Supra"?

Nope. They seem to be exclusively mentioned in the mobile handling.cfg. Why? No idea.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to extract the character models for Avery Carrington and 8 Ball from the beta and import them into the release build of the game? I would like to spawn them in with the debug menu I have on the release build.

No such thing as freecam in this debug. The possible options are:

-Level Skip Menu. For selecting missions (only works when NOT on a mission);

-Character Viewer (can easily view the beta models of the build);

-Building Viewer (some beta locations to be found out);

-Weapon Cheat;

-Player Cheat;

-Weather and Time Changer;

-MoCap Menu. For loading mocap cutscenes (not many in LCS as everyone knows);

-USJ Editor (crashes the game, as expected);

-Toggle Player Coordinates.

I mean conversely, why are we saying it couldn’t be Donald Love cuz of the mustache, yet why are we saying it could be Vinnie even tho he doesn’t have a mustache?
